The impact of personality trait and social experience on youngsters’ intention to purchase impulsively from social commerce platforms

Purpose This study aims to determine the impact of personality traits and social experience on Indonesian youngsters’ intention to purchase impulsively from social commerce (SC) platforms. Furthermore, latent state-trait, personal traits and social impact were used to determine the factors influencing this impulsive behavior. Design/methodology/approach This is a theoretical research model with data obtained from 658 Indonesian youngsters between the ages of 18 and 24. The data were prepared using exploratory and confirmatory factors with the structural equation modeling (SEM) approach used to analyze the direct, indirect and moderating effects. Findings The result showed that hedonic motivation is the most influential personality trait construct that directly determines youngsters’ purchasing intention, followed by perceived behavior control. Furthermore, their constructs from social experience, namely, subjective norms and peer communication, significantly have an indirect effect on the dependent variable through mediator hedonic motivation and perceived behavior control. Originality/value Preliminary studies neglected the social interaction process used by youngsters’ in the impulsive purchase of the SC context. Therefore, this research postulated the associated factors by involving their interplay between personal traits and social experience.

The youth from Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, as the main body of science and technology innovation, is the core driving force for Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to become an international innovation and entrepreneurship base. Based on the TPB, this paper analyzes the mediating effects of entrepreneurial attitude, subjective norm and perceived behavior control, and establishes a structural equation model, to explore the mechanism and path of the impact of the entrepreneurial environment on the entrepreneurial will of the youth in the bay area. This paper finds that these three dimensions of the TPB play multiple mediating roles in the path of the impact of the entrepreneurial environment on the entrepreneurial will, and it has a completely mediating effect, that is, the entrepreneurial environment influences the entrepreneurial will by influencing personal attitude, perceptual behavior control and subjective norm. Therefore, in the future, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area government should enhance the entrepreneurship willingness of the young people in the three places through preferential policies for starting businesses, open channels for innovation and business start-up information, and deepening the openness and innovation of the institutional mechanism of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao.

PurposeThe study aims to examine the role of consumer psychological attitude, subjective norm, perceived behavior control and pro-environmental self-identity on green food purchase intention. Also, it examines the effect of ecological conscious consumers' behavior (ECCB) on green intention and behavior.Design/methodology/approachThe study has focused on the upper-middle-class segment of Karachi. The authors have used area sampling for collecting the data. Six recruited enumerators distributed 450 questionnaires in five areas of Karachi and received 423 filled-in questionnaires. The study has used the Smart PLS version for data analysis.FindingsThe study found that biospheric egoistic and hedonic values affect attitudes toward green products, and altruistic values have no effect on attitude. Also, the authors did not find any association between attitude and green purchase intention, but found that attitude stimulates ECCB. Subjective norms and perceived behavior control strongly affect green purchase intention and ECCB. The results also suggest that pro-environment self-identity and ECCB are significant predictors of green purchase intention. The authors also found that green purchase intention stimulates green food behavior.Originality/valueThe authors have taken a holistic approach by investigating 13relationships. The authors also examined the association between hedonic values and green purchase intentions, which in the past studies have contradictory results.

The pandemic Covid-19 has been changing tourist behavior to visit a tourism destination. This study aims to investigate tourist’ visit intention after Covid-19 pandemic period in Indonesia by addressing the Covid-19 phenomenon, health consciousness and theory planned behavior framework. To answer hypotheses in this study, Confirmatory Factor Analysis-Structure Equation Model is used with quantitative approach. The research model is examined by SEM-PLS, using SmartPLS-3 software to analyze research framework. The results show that Covid-19 perception had not significantly impacted attitude, subjective norm, perceived behavioral control and intention. However, the perception of Covid-19 has a significant impact on non-pharmaceutical intervention, which in turn delivers a significant impact on attitude, subjective norm, perceived behavior control and visit intention. The hypothesis presumes that attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavior control all have significant impact on intention to visit. In contrast, variable of health consciousness works less impact on intention to visit. Purpose The theory of planned behavior (TPB) is the most frequently used model in knowledge sharing. However, the empirical results are inconclusive on whether TPB can provide reasonable prediction of knowledge sharing behavior (KSB). This study aims to examine TPB in knowledge sharing and identify potential moderators of relationships among constructs in TPB. Design/methodology/approach This study conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of 26 studies examining TPB in knowledge sharing. A meta-analytical structural equation model (MASEM) was used to test original and modified TPB models and examine potential moderators. Findings The results show that attitude has the strongest relationship with intention, followed by perceived behavior control and then subjective norms. Intention shows the strongest association with KSB, followed by perceived behavior control. The moderator roles of culture, economic wealth and information technology support are found in the model. Originality/value This study is the first attempt to provide a systematic review and MASEM in TPB in knowledge sharing.

PurposeThe behavior compelling the consumer’s intention to purchase organic food has received little attention in developing countries. There is limited knowledge concerning the factors that impact consumer’s intention to purchase organic food in these countries. The study empirically examined the impact of attitude, subjective norms, and perceived behavior control on the consumer intention to buy organic food. The study also aimed to explore whether knowledge about organic food and health consciousness has an indirect effect on the relationship between attitude, subjective norms, perceived behavior control and intention to buy.Design/methodology/approachTo accomplish the study’s objectives, the questionnaires were administered to a convenience sample of 730 consumers using a traditional paper and pencil questionnaire interview (PAPI). Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was applied to validate the data, and the Structural equation model (SEM) was employed to test the hypotheses.FindingsThe findings showed that subjective norms and attitudes were positively correlated, and they significantly impacted the purchase intention of organic food. The findings also showed that knowledge about organic food and health consciousness has an indirect effect on the relationship between attitude, subjective norms, and intention to buy.Originality/valueThe findings stimulate the momentum to the growing literature, particularly in the developing countries on consumer behaviors regarding organic foods. Also, they will help stakeholders to achieve the marketing strategy for the growth of this sector.

The purpose of this study is to understand fashion consumers’ channel switching to online stores during the COVID-19. We proposed an extended theory of planned behavior by incorporating protection motivation theory. The results showed that consumer assessments of perceived severity and altruistic fear of COVID-19 and response efficacy and self-efficacy of channel switching increased their beliefs (i.e., attitude, perceived behavior control, subjective norm) and intentions to switch shopping channels to online. We also found that the age (young vs. old) moderated the effects of response efficacy and self-efficacy on perceived behavior control, perceived severity on subjective norm, perceived behavior control on channel switching intentions, and channel switching intention on actual switching behavior. The findings provide fashion retailers and the society with a better understanding about fashion consumers’ shopping channel switching under the pandemic.

Background: Although the nursing staff is fundamental in assisting individuals with mental illnesses (MI) to stop tobacco use, they often have mixed feelings about providing tobacco treatment (TT) services to people with MI in inpatient psychiatric settings. Objective: Therefore, this study aimed to understand factors associated with nursing staff’s intentions to provide TT interventions for individuals diagnosed with MI in a psychiatric facility using the constructs of the theory of planned behavior (TPB). Method: Secondary data analysis was performed using cross-sectional data collected from 98 nursing staff who worked in a state inpatient psychiatric facility. A 15-item questionnaire was used to assess nursing staff intentions to provide TT services based on TPB constructs, including attitudes (four items), subjective norms (four items), perceived behavioral controls (four items), and intentions (three items) toward providing TT. The mean scores of each subscale ranged from 1 to 7. A logistic regression analysis was used to examine the relationship between TBP constructs and nursing staff intentions to provide TT for people with MI. Results: Nursing staff had an acceptable mean score in the intentions subscale (4.34 ± 2.01). Only two constructs of TPB explained nursing staff intentions to provide TT: subjective norms (OR = 2.14, 95% CI [1.46, 3.13]) and perceived behavioral control (OR = 2.33, 95% CI [1.32, 4.12]). Conclusions: The constructs of the TPB, the subjective norms, and the perceived behavior control were able to predict nurses’ intentions to provide TT for inpatients in a psychiatric setting. Accordingly, we suggest implementing policies that make TT a normative practice while supporting the confidence and competence of nurses to deliver TT in psychiatric facilities.

BACKGROUND With the rapid development of the internet, hospital public platform (HPP) has been designed for the use in top state-owned public hospitals since 2009 to provide patients with appointment registrations, test result inquiry, online payment, online consultation and other services. This study was conducted to measure continued adoption and to identify factors that influence patients’ continued adoption of HPP. OBJECTIVE This study was conducted to measure continued adoption and to identify factors that influence patients’ continued adoption of HPP. METHODS Expectancy Confirmation Theory (ECM-ISC) and Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) was used to assess the users’ continued adoption of HPP. A questionnaire was distributed to patients in Beijing Friendship Hospital, which measured constructs, including perceived usefulness, expectation confirmation, satisfaction, continuance intention, subject norm, perceived behavior control and adoption behavior. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was performed to test the theoretical model. RESULTS The expectation confirmation significantly affected perceived usefulness, and satisfaction significantly affected continuance intention, while perceived usefulness had no significant effect on satisfaction and continuance intention. The subjective norm and perceived behavior control had significant influence on continuance intention. Perceived trust significantly affected satisfaction and continuance intention. The expectation confirmation had no significant impact on satisfaction, but it could affect satisfaction indirectly through perceived trust. Habit had a significant influence on adoption behavior and had a significant moderate effect between continuance intention and adoption behavior. CONCLUSIONS The findings of this study provide an applied guideline for the successful application of e-health systems in public hospitals in cities. It also creates an opportunity for e-health service providers to have a better understanding of their patients, which may have far-reaching and positive implications for China’s ongoing reforms.

This study aims to determine the effect of the Theory of Planned Behavior and knowledge of the intention to invest in the assembly of the Taklim Muhammadiyah Sub-District of Sukomanunggal Surabaya. Primary data retrieval in this study used a questionnaire with a sample of 40 taklim assemblies in Sukomanunggal sub-district, Surabaya. The characteristics of the sample in this study were the pilgrims who attended the recitation in the assembly of taklim Muhammadiyah, Sukomanunggal, Surabaya. The sampling technique is Non-Probability Sampling and Simple Random Sampling. This study uses a quantitative approach with multiple linear regression analysis. The endogenous variable in this study is the intention to invest, while the exogenous variable used is part of the Theory of Planned Behavior which consists of attitudes, subjective norms, and Perceived Behavior Control and Knowledge. The results of this study indicate that simultaneously and partially attitudes, subjective norms, Perceived Behavior Control, and knowledge have a significant effect on the intention to invest in the assembly of taklim members of Muhammadiyah, Sukomanunggal District, Surabaya. Suggestions for further research to add to the scope of research subjects so that more general information can be obtained about related research, and using other variables outside of this research variable because it should be suspected that there are still several other factors that can influence intention to invest.Keywords: Theory Of Planned Behaviour, Knowledge, Infaq, Intention
