Health information system deals with any system that helps in capturing, storing, transmitting, and managing health-related information of an individual or to demonstrate the activities or organizations working within health-care sector. In the developing countries, maternal and child health is gaining concern due to increasing cases of morbidity and mortality. The disparities among the maternal, infant, and child health are a growing concern in India and are governed by various determinants such as socioeconomic status, literacy, quality of health care, discrimination, and biological and genetic factors. Accurate and reliable health information and data are the basis for decision-making across the health-care sector and are crucial for the development and implementation of health system policy by the policy-makers. Strict monitoring and evaluation of the present program design and its implementation is required at the microlevel to effectively utilize the resources for the improvement of maternal and child health. Our present article focuses on evaluating the coverage gap at the different levels for the provision of health-care facilities to maternal, neonatal, and child health, immunization, and treatment of poor children. Big data plays a major role in providing sound and reliable health-related information and also help in managing and recording structured and unstructured data. More concrete plans are required further to reduce the inequalities in health-care interventions for providing better maternal and child health-care services in our nation.

The necessity to guide and monitor health services planning with a closely related information system is now widely recognized. However, in most countries practice falls far short of theory. There are many difficulties to overcome on the way to achieving a well informed and sophisticated planning system. The difficulties are administrative, technical, and psychologic. There is often a gap to be bridged between the planners and the providers of information. In Scotland, the integration of the previously separate administrations of hospitals, general practice, and public health under single health boards offers new opportunities for planning health programs. This change is an incentive to reform and upgrade the information services for planning. Some of the proposals are described.

Modern information technologies enable information systems to record the changing history of information units, and then play back such histories under users requests. This paper proposes a scenario paradigm equipped with a scenario-oriented approach to support the idea of replaying day-to-day activities. The proposed method attempts to organize related information and knowledge elements as a context (scenario) so that the history of daily activities can be recorded, and then be queried and replayed as a flow of information scenarios for a specified interval of time. Thats Your Life Information System (TYLI) is employed as an example in this paper for evaluating the usability of the scenario paradigm and the scenario-oriented approach.

Based on the concept of an integrated maintenance information system and related information environment, this paper discusses the process of troubleshooting in modern maintenance in detail, and gives a model of dynamic faults diagnosis, in which a reasoning program is designed through taking advantage of information fusion and time analysis. In the end, the authors present the logic process of dynamic diagnosis through a typical example, and propose a dynamic diagnostic system based on information fusion.

This paper is mainly on patient safety in health-care information technology (HIT). One of the main concerns with respect to this is recording all patient related information. One of the issues is auto documentation in HIT. Due to this, many medical errors are occurring, to avoid this automation to the patient history need to be supported. The patient will be linked with history, prescription, doctors, and nurse’s information. All this information should be linked with one patient ID known as bar code. The outcome of care transformations of the medication administration process that resulted from the implementation of one type of IT: Bar-coded medication administration (BCMA). Hence, this paper shows the technologies of BCMA how it works and the drawback of it and the implementation on open-source platform of BCMA.

ABSTRACT Purpose The article tries to streamline the process of communicating and recording the gender of newborn in the birth certificate in the labor room. Design Descriptive. Materials and methods Redesigning of the process of recording gender in hospital information system (HIS) module/e-birth module using process mapping and feedback from stakeholders. Results There were instances of discrepancy in verbally communicating the gender of newborn soon after the birth and the gender being recorded in the birth certificate issued in the labor room. Soon after these instances were reported, the process was examined and redesigned. After implementation of the redesigned process, follow-up was done and it was noted that there had been no further instances of discrepancies in communication of sex of the newborn child and recording of gender in the birth certificate. However, to institutionalize the change and to prevent any further mishaps in future and to eliminate chances of all possible human errors, it was decided that the whole process will be retested and all possible loopholes will be identified, with the aim to create a process which achieves the objective of elimination of all possible human errors (mistake-proofing). Initially, the process mapping was done. Later, the new process of recording birth-related information including gender was codified and implemented. The follow-up was again done post this intervention. It was found that systemic changes had streamlined the process. This had resulted not only in right gender recording and elimination of possibility of any errors, but also in reduction of number of visits by patients to labor room to get birth certificate. Conclusion Investigation of errors and redesigning of processes help in rooting out various defects in the system. Therefore, all the acts of omission/commission resulting in undesirable outcomes should be used as opportunities for overall improvement rather than to find fault of erring employees. As in this case, the overall approach was to improve the existing system leading to elimination of chances of any mistake and streamlining operations leading to desired outcomes. A study was conducted during 2012-13 to build union level digital databases and maps of maize growing areas using both primary and secondary data. Primary data were collected from maize growing areas of the upazilla namely Pirgonj of Thakurgaon district. For summer and winter maize; union, upazila, district and country level digitized maps were used in the study. Geographical Information System (GIS), Global Positioning System (GPS) and Management Information System (MIS) related Information Technology (IT) were also applied. Total cultivable land 28138 ha in Pirgonj upazila and area and production of maize were 5100 ha and 34508.75 t respectively. Sixteen (16) varieties were cultivated in the study areas and maximum area (74.09%) of maize was cultivated by the executive varieties NK40, Pacific 984, 900M Gold, 900M, 3396, and Supergold. Average maize yield of the study areas was 6.77 t/ha during 2012-13. A web site was developed for variety wise area coverage data collection of maize as well as for other crops. This web site can also be used in mobile phone.Bangladesh J. Agril. Res. 40(4): 693-702, December 2015

Studying Agriculture Knowledge Information System (AKIS) in terms of generation, dissemination, transformation, utilization, storage and retrieval of knowledge and information is needed for Agriculture development. Study was conducted in purposively selected Nadia district of West Bengal. Betel vine growers, extentionists and researchers were considered as respondents. Information obtained from all the actors of AKIS was summarized in matrix from to analyze the extent of information exchange among various actors pertaining to cultural practices, plant protection techniques and harvesting of betel vine cultivation. The matrix revealed that information flow was linear in majority of the cases. The feedback got blocked with some of the actors, as upstream flow of information was weak. The present study was undertaken to study the existing Farmer-Extensionists-Researcher linkage as perceived by the linkage matrix with AKIS. A total of 200 farmers responding Karimpur 1, Karimpur 2, Krishnaganj and Chakdah block of Nadia district were selected for the study. The district and blocks were selected purposively for the study. Farmers were selected by the simple random sampling method. The result of the study reveal that betel growers had low linkage with researcher and were found maximum linkage with extension workers like Assistant Director of Agriculture, Krishi Projukti Sohaok, Opinion leaders, Dealers etc.
