Our study aimed to determine pain levels and the state of welfare connected to laser-based procedures in the treatment of patients diagnosed with uncontrolled glaucoma. The study group included 100 eyes of 100 patients diagnosed with glucoma, 50 of them being treated with micropulse transscleral laser cyclophotocoagulation, and the other 50 eyes being treated with continuous transscleral laser cyclophotocoagulation. We used visual analog scale to gather information from each patient. After analysing the individual information the following results were obtained: the pain level for the micropulse transscleral laser cyclophotocoagulation was 60.23 mm, signifying moderate pain; and the pain score for the continuous transscleral laser cyclophotocoagulation was 76.34 mm, corresponding to moderate-intense pain. Pain level generated by minimally invasive laser procedures is discussed.

Abstract The projection of outstanding liabilities caused by incurred losses or claims has played a fundamental role in general insurance operations. Loss reserving methods based on individual losses generally perform better than those based on aggregate losses. This study uses a parametric individual information model taking not only individual losses but also individual information such as age, gender, and so on from policies themselves into account. Based on this model, this study proposes a computation procedure for the projection of the outstanding liabilities, discusses the estimation and statistical properties of the unknown parameters, and explores the asymptotic behaviors of the resulting loss reserving as the portfolio size approaching infinity. Most importantly, this study demonstrates the benefits of individual information on loss reserving. Remarkably, the accuracy gained from individual information is much greater than that from considering individual losses. Therefore, it is highly recommended to use individual information in loss reserving in general insurance.

The chapter looks at the burgeoning field of certification for individuals in the field of information security or cybersecurity. Individual information security certifications cover a wide range of topics from the deeply technical to the managerial. These certifications are used as a visible indication of an individual's status and knowledge, used to define experience and status, used in job descriptions and screening, and may define expectations placed on the individual. This chapter examines how these certifications are produced, the subjects they cover, and how they integrate and the various audiences to which the certifications are aimed. The role, the perceived and real value, and benefits of certification within the field of information security both from an individual and an organizational perspective are discussed. Finally, some conclusions on certification are presented.

Abstract Various cutaneous glands have been identified as sources of chemical signals that mediate many social interactions in deer. The pampas deer, a species considered near threatened, inhabits grasslands of South America. In this work, the chemical compositions from preorbital, tarsal, and digital gland secretions of semi-captive males were characterized by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry. The composition of these secretions showed a great complexity, with 143 compounds detected. Hierarchical cluster and principal component analyses show no relation to age or secretion type. Five compound classes (esters, fatty alcohols, lactones, sterols, and sulphuretted) differed with glands. The chemical complexity of the secretions, the individual differences in the whole compounds composition, and the absence of clustering by age lead to the hypothesis that these secretions may encode at once for individual information and for social status information.

AbstractIn the colonial emperor penguin Aptenodytes forsteri, the broadcast distance of the mutual display call (the distance over which the individual information conveyed by the call is transmitted) was determined. The variables measured were (1) the sound amplitude that averaged 94.8 dB SPL for birds facing toward the microphone and 85.7 dB SPL for birds facing away, (2) the sound attenuation that decreased with about 6 dB per doubling distance, (3) the ratio of the signal to the background noise of the colony which was 20-25 dB during the rearing period of chicks, and (4) the degradation of the signal structure by the scattering medium (penguin bodies) and distance, which affected the timbre, but not the two fundamental frequencies of the call that produced a beat phenomenon. This distance, 4-7 m indicates that the call is transmitted at short- or medium-range, and corresponds closely to the distance covered between two stops where a parent in search for its chick calls. The beat phenomenon undegraded by the scattering medium and distance is likely to serve individual recognition, assuming there is a relationship between the broadcast distance and the functional structure of emperor penguin call.

This work is a generalization of the Lopez-Ruiz, Mancini and Calbet (LMC); and Shiner, Davison and Landsberg (SDL) complexity measures, considering that the state of a system or process is represented by a dynamical variable during a certain time interval. As the two complexity measures are based on the calculation of informational entropy, an equivalent information source is defined and, as time passes, the individual information associated to the measured parameter is the seed to calculate instantaneous LMC and SDL measures. To show how the methodology works, an example with economic data is presented.

The article describes and details the individual elements of the forensic characteristics of the crime under Article 117 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, namely, the mother’s murder of her newborn child. The study of investigative practice and special literature on the scientific organization of the investigation, in particular the murder of her newborn child by a mother, shows that this activity is impossible without the use of such a scientific category as a forensic characteristic. Since the forensic characteristic is a kind of information model that will allow, in the course of the investigation of this offense, to correctly assess the investigative situation, to determine the organizational and legal actions at the initial stage of the investigation, namely, the construction of versions, the preparation of appropriate plans, etc. Having in its arsenal information regarding the individual elements of this offense, namely: the way the mother committed the murder of her newborn child, the place and time of its commission, information about the identity of the offender, in this case the woman in labor, the child who was found dead, as well as changes in the environment and other information will allow the investigating authorities to more effectively predict the possible course of events, establish all the circumstances to be proved, as well as the persons involved in the committed offense.
