Small business enterprises are widely recognized as a driving force of economic growth and development in any nation. Empirical evidence has shown that they contribute to job creation, help to alleviate poverty, and increase a nation’s level of productivity. In the exponential increase of small businesses, the role of the financial sector is crucial. This paper aims to identify the role of formal financial support in small business employment generation in Bouddhanath, Kathmandu. The study adopted a descriptive research design. Purposive sampling was used to select 285 business owners. A structured questionnaire was designed to collect their responses. Primary and secondary data was employed to analyze user status. Data analysis was performed with the help of descriptive analysis and a financial support index. The results showed that financial support plays a critical role in the enhancement of the small business sector, allowing businesses to create employment opportunities which further helps to maintain the Nepalese economy. The major challenges to the growth of small businesses in Nepal lie in securing initial funding and overreliance on credit. In addition, the ability to afford quality staff has an equally strong effect on the success of small businesses. Business growth clearly depends on the role of the formal financial sector to achieve the desired outcomes.

Formerly shunned due its notoriety for facilitating illicit trade and transporting criminals across Uganda’s international borders, the boda-boda transport industry gained fame in recent years and has become the second largest employer of youths all over Uganda, after agriculture. Recent scholarship on the bodaboda industry has however, concentrated on the risks embedded in it including high infection rates of HIV among the drivers and the daily accidents reported. Little attention has been paid to the contribution of the industry in youth employment. This paper discusses the role of boda-boda transport industry in solving the problem of unemployment among the youths in Uganda. The author interviewed seventeen boda-boda drivers in Uganda and thirty-four of their family members to establish how this transport business has impacted on employment opportunities, financial independence and globalisation of youths. The study revealed that whereas many youths have dropped out of school to take up the boda-boda business, profits of this trade have facilitated the education of some young people in Uganda and enabled them to globally connect with youths across the globe. The study recommends sensitisation, business skills training as well as adult and distant education opportunities for the youthful motorcycle drivers

Of course, MSMEs have various economic benefits, and India is riding upon the performance of MSMEs to become self-reliant. But still, MSMEs should not be perceived in isolation for the economic benefits only. Rather, other socio-economic perspectives of MSMEs should also get equal consideration. Thus, this paper descriptive in nature attempts to record other socio-economic benefits. For this paper, various government reports and other related literature have been consulted. MSMEs have an impressive track record in contribution to GDP, employment generation, reducing social inequalities, women empowerment, and balanced geographical growth. The study concludes that the role of MSMEs in the development of India is crucial, yet there are many roadblocks that need state intervention through an appropriate policy framework. Some of the roadblocks in the progress of the MSME sector are difficulty in availing credit facility, lack of marketing avenues, inefficient productivity gave operation of scale, frequent obsolescence of technology, inadequate infrastructure, and institutional framework. The paper also highlights the role of professionals in facilitating the smooth functioning and growth of the MSME sector.
