AbstractIn this paper we have study the performance of different optical amplifiers (Erbium doped amplifier (EDFA), RAMAN amplifier, and semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA)) for 80 channels wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) system with the data rate at 10 Gbps data rate for the transmission distance of 280 km After getting the results of these amplifiers the performance of these has to be compared The Q-factor values achieved better in EDFA as compared to SOA and RAMAN. While the BER getting good in SOA as compared with other amplifiers but in EDFA after 200 km it goes saturated, the Power achieved at the power estimator is getting better in EDFA optical amplifier while in other amplifier it achieved negative. At the end it is also study the Power with frequency in THz and the Eye Diagram of such amplifiers results.

An integrated TOF (Tunable Optical Filter) based on thermo-optic effect in Silicon on insulator (SOI) rib waveguide is designed and simulated. The device is comprised of two high refractivity contrast Si/Air stacks, functioning as high reflectivity of DBRs and separated by a variable refractive index Si F-P cavity. The output characteristics are calculated and simulated based on Transfer Matrix Method (TMM). Wavelength tuning is achieved through thermal modulation of refractive variation of the cavity. As the cavity Si is heated, the refractive index of the cavity increases. When the temperature of cavity Si changes within100°C,the central wavelength gets a continuous 8nm shift from 1550nm to 1558nm, which is right located in the WDM (Wavelength division multiplexing) networks operating at C-band. Moreover, by calculating, the tuning sensitivity is about 0.08nm/°C. Owing to the compact size and excellent characteristics of integration, the proposed component has a promising utilization in spectroscopy and optical communication.

Currently it is not possible to create a fully optical communication system without a software tool which simulates an optical communication line in real conditions prior to its construction. The aim of this article is to establish a comparison between the EDFA (erbium doped fibre amplifier) and SOA (semiconductor optical amplifier) optical amplifiers in the WDM (wavelength division multiplexing) system. The system contains a four-channel WDM with speed of 10 Gbps and optical fibre with length of 80 km. Simulations are conducted in the programme environment “OptSim.” The quality of the optical communication system is evaluated by the BER (bit error rate) and Q-factor for individual wavelengths, namely, of 1558 nm and 1562 nm, which are within the C-band.

Abstract In this paper, we proposed optical filter based on two-dimensional photonic crystal elliptical channel for wavelength division multiplexing. We employed ring resonator with ellipse shaped core in proposed structure. The resonance wavelength of the ring resonators depends on two parameters: refractive index and radius of dielectric rods. We investigate the physical parameters governing the filter performance. Our results show that the transmission efficiency is 100 % due to nearly zero reflection and loss in channel. Band width of 4 nm and quality factor of 389 is obtained for filter. Also, the total footprint of proposed structure is 230.4 µm2 which makes it suitable for all optical integrated circuits.
