We study an energy space-based approach for the Dirichlet boundary optimal control problem governed by the Laplace equation with control constraints. The optimality system results in a simplified Signorini type problem for control which is coupled with boundary value problems for state and costate variables. We propose a finite element based numerical method using the linear Lagrange finite element spaces with discrete control constraints at the Lagrange nodes. The analysis is presented in a combination for both the gradient and the L2 cost functional. A priori error estimates of optimal order in the energy norm is derived up to the regularity of the solution for both the cases. Theoretical results are illustrated by some numerical experiments.

Hydrodesulphurization of dimethyldisulphide was performed on Ni-Co-Mo /�-Al2O3 catalyst. The catalyst was characterized by determining the adsorption isotherms, the pore size distribution and the acid strength. Experiments were carried out on a laboratory echipament in continuous system using a fixed bed catalytic reactor at 50-100�C, pressure from 10 barr to 50 barr, the liquid hourly space velocity from 1h-1 to 4h-1 and the molar ratio H2 / dimethyldisulphide 60/1. A simplified kinetic model based on the Langmuir�Hinshelwood theory, for the dimethyldisulphide hydrodesulfurization process of dimethyldisulphide has been proposed. The results show the good accuracy of the model.

Desulfurisation of atmospheric distillation gasoline and gas oil was performed by adsorption process on Fe/ bentonite. The adsorbent was characterized by determining the adsorption isotherms, specific surface area, pore volume and average pore diameter. Adsorption experiments of atmospheric distillation gasoline and gas oil were performed in continuous system at 280�320oC, 5 atm and volume hourly space velocities of 1�2 h-1. The efficiency of adsorption on Fe / bentonite was better at desulphurisation of gasoline versus gas oil.

Desulfurization of atmospheric distillation (DA) gasoline was performed by reactive adsorption on ZnO/ bentonite. The adsorbent was characterized by determining the distribution of particle sizes of zinc oxide powdered, adsorption isotherm and textural characteristics of granulated adsorbent. Adsorption experiments of atmospheric distillation gasoline were performed in continuous system at 280-320oC, 5-25 bar and volume hourly space velocities of 1-1.5 h-1. The adsorption on ZnO/ bentonite has been favored by increased pressure and operating temperature.

In this study, the wastewater of one of the cigarette factories in Izmir was characterized and treatability studies were done. The characterization studies of the wastewater showed that the COD, and the pH changes drastically. The chemical treatability studies of the influent wastewater were done by using Ca(OH)2, FeCl3 and Fenton Reagent. The optimum dose of FeCI3 was determined by jar tests. When using Ca(OH)2, the best flocculation, settling behaviour, and the highest COD removal occurred around pH 11. The optimum doses of Fenton Reagent (FeSO4 and H2O2) were determined. The supernatants of the previously chemically treated wastewaters were used for biological treatment. According to total COD removal efficiencies and the amount of sludge production during chemical treatment, FeCl3 was found to be the most economical and effective coagulant. Chemical treatment units were designed for a batch and a continuous system. The batch system has more advantages than a continuous system in this case.

AbstractPolicy iteration is a widely used technique to solve the Hamilton Jacobi Bellman (HJB) equation, which arises from nonlinear optimal feedback control theory. Its convergence analysis has attracted much attention in the unconstrained case. Here we analyze the case with control constraints both for the HJB equations which arise in deterministic and in stochastic control cases. The linear equations in each iteration step are solved by an implicit upwind scheme. Numerical examples are conducted to solve the HJB equation with control constraints and comparisons are shown with the unconstrained cases.

This manuscript studies a double fractional extended p-dimensional coupled Gross–Pitaevskii-type system. This system consists of two parabolic partial differential equations with equal interaction constants, coupling terms, and spatial derivatives of the Riesz type. Associated with the mathematical model, there are energy and non-negative mass functions which are conserved throughout time. Motivated by this fact, we propose a finite-difference discretization of the double fractional Gross–Pitaevskii system which inherits the energy and mass conservation properties. As the continuous model, the mass is a non-negative constant and the solutions are bounded under suitable numerical parameter assumptions. We prove rigorously the existence of solutions for any set of initial conditions. As in the continuous system, the discretization has a discrete Hamiltonian associated. The method is implicit, multi-consistent, stable and quadratically convergent. Finally, we implemented the scheme computationally to confirm the validity of the mass and energy conservation properties, obtaining satisfactory results.
