Containment measures adopted to reduce the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have produced a general perception of job insecurity. Dentists have been highly affected by such measures, as they represent an easy source of contagion. As perceived job insecurity is associated with psychological distress and Italian dentists have been highly affected by the COVID-19 outbreak in terms of potential financial loss and the risk of being infected, this study aimed at assessing whether the fear of COVID-19 moderated the effect of perceived job insecurity on depressive symptoms. This cross-sectional online study has included 735 Italian dentists recruited during the lockdown and ranging in age from 27 to 70 years old (495 men and 240 women). A quantile regression model with an inference based on the median and with an interaction term between the fear of COVID-19 and perceived job insecurity has been used to estimate the hypothesized associations. The results indicated that both perceived job insecurity and fear of COVID-19 were positively associated with depressive symptoms, and that the effect of perceived job insecurity on depressive symptoms was weaker among those with a low fear of COVID-19. The findings may inform public health policies for dentists in relation to reducing the risk of developing negative mental health outcomes.

The recent wave of protest associated with the global financial crisis provides opportunity to examine the link between economic crisis and collective action in the context of affluent democratic society. I study the mobilization of individual citizens in one of the first of these protests occurring in Iceland in January 2009. Using a survey representing the adult population of the Reykjavík area (N = 610), I examine the role of perceived economic loss and political attitudes in protest behavior (controlling for biographical availability). I find that perceived financial loss predicts both protest participation and support, but only if individuals believe their losses to be greater than the losses of others. Moreover, political attitudes congruent with the political opportunities emerging in the crisis (and the resulting collective action framing)—that is, having a left-wing political attitude and belief in extensive corruption— predict protest participation and support.

ABSTRACT For centuries it is common myth to advice bed rest during pregnancy. At the least pretext bed rest is advised by family members and by health care providers also. But review of literature and RCT shows that in reality bed rest does not alter the course of pregnancy in various complications. Role of bed rest has been examined in singleton, twin and triplet pregnancies but was not found useful. Prolonged bed rest is rather harmful as it causes increased calcium excretion, loss of muscle mass, financial loss and increased psychological rest for the pregnant woman and her family. Moderate exercise is advisable throughout pregnancy to maintain tone of muscles and range of movements. So till we have more proof we should be cautious in advising pregnant patients about bed rest. It can be limited activity where we feel it is not advisable to overexert her. How to cite this article Ahuja M. Bed Rest in Pregnancy and Its Related Complications: Is It Needed?. Background: Non-healing wound is a commonly encountered entity with a broader effect on both the sufferer and the treating doctor. Time taken in healing these wound is directly related to financial loss as well as loss of working hours, thus ultimately increasing the financial burden. Chronic wound has devitalized tissue at the base which is barrier to cell migration and acts as supportive environment for bacterial growth. Considering the effect of devitalized tissue on wound healing there lies importance of debridement in wound management. Debridement is an effective technique to achieve desirable wound bed preparation by removing the dead and devitalized tissue. Hence a study was conducted at a rural hospital with main aim to assess role of surgical sharp debridement in non-healing wound in complete healing or preparing wound for further definitive treatment. Methods: The study was conducted at AVBRH Sawangi (Meghe), Wardha. Random 50 patients of non-healing ulcer were selected for the study. One group was of early debridement while other group of dressing with moist dressing only. Wound were assessed for healing, wound contraction, scar quality at regular intervals. They were assessed for duration of wound to heal completely/ get ready for further intervention like SSG/ Flaps, Cost of treatment and Time taken by the patient to return back to work.Results: 36% of patients in moist dressing group heal completely by 4 weeks while 56% of patients in debridement group heal completely by 4 weeks. Early recovery leads to early normalcy so less loss of wages and thus making the group cost effective. Conclusions: Early debridement was found to be an effective tool in wound healing in non-healing ulcers.
