Fungal infection as a cause of skin disease in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia: tinea corporis and tinea cruris

Dermatophytoses refers to superficial fungal infection of keratinized tissues caused by keratinophilic dermatophytes. According to observations worldwide, dermatophytoses are the most common of the superficial fungal infections. It is common in tropics and may present in epidemic proportions in areas with high rates of humidity. This prospective, longitudinal, observational study was conducted at SKHMC, Jaipur for a period of 1 year (April 2018 to March 2019), aiming to ascertain the effectiveness of homoeopathic medicines in the treatment of Tinea corporis and Tinea cruris. In this study, 65 cases of Tinea Infection (33 cases of Tinea cruris & 32 cases of Tinea corporis) were treated with homoeopathic medicines prescribed on the basis of totality of the symptoms. Treatment outcomes were assessed using Clinical Symptom Score, designed for this study & approved by Institutional Ethical Committee. Out of 65 patients, 41 patients (63.1%) got improved; 19 patients (29.2%) were at status quo and 05 patients (07.7%) became worse. Maximum patients were found to be in the age group of 11-40 years (n=50; 76.9%). Males were observed to be affected more as compared to females. Paired t-test was conducted on the Clinical Symptom Scores obtained before and after treatment and the result showed that p value is < 0.05 & value of t (11.623) is greater than the tabulated value in t-table at df = 64 (1.997), which was statistically significant and which also concluded that homoeopathic medicines were effective in treating Tinea corporis and Tinea cruris. Abstract: Dermatophytosis is a disorder of tissues with keratinized ephithelia e. g. stratum corneum of epidermis, hair, and nails, caused by dermatophyte fungi from arthrodermataceae family. This family has more than 40 species divided into three genera: Epidermophyton, Microsporum, and Trichophyton. The distribution of dermatophytosis is based on its location: tinea capitis, tinea barbae, tinea cruris, tinea pedis et manum, tinea unguium, and tinea corporis. This study aimed to obtain the profile of dermatophytosis classified by location, age, gender, job and therapy at the Dermatovenerology Clinic of Prof. Dr. R. D. Kandou Hospital Manado during the period of January-December 2013. The results showed that of 4,099 skin disease cases in 2013, there were 153 (3.7%) cases of dermatophytosis with the most frequent found was tinea cruris (35.3%), the age group was 45-64 years old (32.7%), most patients were female (60.8%), commonly housewife (22.9%), and the most treatmen tused was topical therapy (68.6%).Keywords: dermatophyte, dermatophytosis, tinea Abstrak: Dermatofitosis merupakan penyakit pada jaringan yang mengandung zat tanduk, seperti stratum korneum pada epidermis, rambut dan kuku, yang disebabkan oleh jamur dermatofita dari famili arthrodermataceae. Famili ini terdiri lebih dari 40 spesies yang dibagi dalam tiga genus: Epidermophyton, Microsporum, dan Trichophyton. Pembagian dermatofitosis berdasarkan lokasinya yaitu tinea kapitis, tinea barbae, tinea kruris, tinea pedis et manum, tinea unguinum, dan tinea korporis. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui profil dermatofitosis di Poliklinik Kulit dan Kelamin RSUP Prof. Dr. R. D. Kandou Manado periode Januari-Desember 2013 berdasarkan klasifikasi lokasi, usia, jenis kelamin, pekerjaan dan terapi yang diberikan. Ayurved is time tested science. From ancient to present era its principles never change. With great logics its cure all types of disease. Tinea cruris is fungal infection of the groin region.it is ring like shape with any size. It is found more in male then female. According to ayurved all skin disease comes under kushta vhydhi. Tinea cruris can be correlated with dadru. Dadru is one of the Kshudrakustha with predominance of Pitta and Kapha dosha. 31 years old male suffering from Elevated ring like patch around buttock region, Severe itching, Discoloration/Redness, Burning sensation since last 8 months. He took Modern medicine but no relief from that. With Modern medicine he just got relief from itching, that also reoccur again during night time. Ayurvedic medicines along with good hygiene and some lifestyle modifications give best result.

Abstract. Background: Medical students are at high risk of suicidal ideation. Aim: We aimed to obtain information on suicidal ideation among medical students in Dammam located in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. Method: This cross-sectional study was conducted at the College of Medicine affiliated with Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. Suicidal ideation in the past 12 months was assessed based on responses to four questions in the depression subscale of the General Health Questionnaire 28 (GHQ-28). In addition, data were collected to examine the association of suicidal ideation with various factors. Results: We found that 1 in 3 medical students in the study had suicidal ideation in the past 12 months, while around 40% had lifetime suicidal ideation. Suicidal ideation was associated with feelings of parental neglect, history of physical abuse, and dissatisfaction with academic performance. Limitations: The cross-sectional nature of this study limits its ability to determine causality regarding suicidal ideation. Conclusion: These rates are considerably high when compared with rates from studies in other countries around the world. This study provides a reference in the field of suicidology for this region of Saudi Arabia.
