A total of 493 sponges were collected with a bottom trawl during annual groundfish stock assessment surveys in the eastern Bering Sea in 2013, 2015, and 2016 to build an inventory of species in this largely unexplored region. We report here principally on the demosponge fauna collected during those surveys because identifications of hexactinellids are incomplete. We identified 42 unique demosponge taxa from the collection including geographical range extensions for 30 species; seven are new records for the Pacific Ocean. The collection also included three species new to science; two have been previously described (Plicatellopsis borealis Lehnert & Stone 2017, Spongosorites beringensis Lehnert & Stone 2017) and Antho ridgwayi sp. nov. described here. The new species differed from all northern hemisphere congeners in the complements and sizes of spicules. We document that the region is more species rich than previously suspected, particularly the continental slope where the majority of hexactinellid sponges are located.

A new genus and species of marine crayfish, Palibythus magnificus, is described from deep water off Western Samoa. Palibythus is placed in the Palinuridae, among the 'Stridentes' group of genera, because of the well-developed stridulatory organ. It differs from all other known genera, except Palinurellus, by the flat triangular rostrum and the narrow thoracic sternum; Palinurellus, however, lacks a stridulatory organ. The relationships of Palinurellus are discussed and the Synaxidae is replaced in synonymy with the Palinuridae. Palinurellus wieneckii is recorded from New Guinea and Solomon Islands waters for the first time.

Seventeen species of pelagic Polychaeta from the northeastern Pacific are recorded. Of these, five (Sphaerosyllis pirifera Claparède, Dorvillea kefersteini McIntosh, Spiophanes cirrata Sars, Magelona sp., and Flabelligera affinis Sars) are species which, whilst not exclusively pelagic, are known to swim at some stage, particularly as larvae. One record (Pedinosoma curtum Reibisch) is new to the Pacific Ocean, two (Pontodora pelagica Greef and Callisona nasuta Greef) are new to the northeastern Pacific region, and four (Pelagobia longicirrata Greef, Lopadorhynchus uncinatus Fauvel, Sagitella kowalewskii Wagner, and Callizona angelini (Kinberg)) are records of northerly extensions of distribution. The first observation of a larval Cossura (probably of C. longocirrata Webster and Benedict) is recorded. Poeobius meseres Heath is recorded from a number of stations and the classification of Poeobiidae is discussed.Eight species of Siphonophora are listed, all of which constitute new records for the region covered by the present collections. Six species of Mollusca, comprising five Pteropoda and one Heteropoda, are recorded, none of which have been identified previously in northeastern Pacific plankton. Three of the genera of Pteropoda (Anopsia, Thliptodon, and Cliopsis) are characteristic of warmer seas, the other two, and the heteropod, are widely distributed. Of the two species of Tunicata listed one is new to the northeastern Pacific.

The diversity of bathyal and abyssal marine organisms is still poorly known and this is especially true for tubicolous polychaetes of the family Serpulidae, the common inhabitants of subtidal and shelf locations. We report herein new records of poorly known deep-sea (mostly below 2000 m) serpulids collected in the Pacific Ocean by early Soviet Oceanographic expeditions onboard R/V “Vityaz”. The following species were found: Bathyditrupa hovei, Bathyvermilia challengeri, B eliasoni, B. zibrowiusi, Filogranula stellata, Hyalopomatus jirkovi, and H. sikorski at the depths of 1600–6330 m. Many samples collected by R/V “Vityaz” and other Russian research vessels are still unstudied and apparently many bathyal and abyssal serpulid species new to science remain undescribed. The diversity of abyssal marine organisms remains poorly known not only because of the obvious logistical difficulties in collecting at abyssal localities, but also in part due to the lack of taxonomic effort directed towards existing research collections.

Euphausiids have been well studied in several regions of the Pacific Ocean; however, there is lessinformation regarding euphausiids in Costa Rican waters. We analyzed euphausiid specimens collected aroundIsla del Coco National Park during 2011 and 2012. A total of 130 specimens were analyzed and 13 euphausiidspecies were identified, belonging to four genera and one family. An annotated list of species is presented,with photographs and details for their identification. All species found represent new records for waters aroundIsla del Coco in the Costa Rican Pacific. Recent collections of deep-sea majid crabs from the South Pacific Ocean and Taiwan provide new records of five species of Cyrtomaia Miers, 1886, and a new species from French Polynesia, C. polynesica n. sp. The news species is most similar to the recently described C. micronesica Richer de Forges & Ng, 2007, but differs from this species in the morphology of its carapace and pereopods.

Careful examination of the morphology of recently obtained specimens as well as previously reported specimens of thegenus Sadayoshia, initiated by unpublished molecular data that suggest the existence of several different species, led usto describe six new species. The species are very similar to one another and distinguished by very slight morphologicaldifferences. Some of the characters that were previously considered as intraspecifically variable in some species, proved to be valid for species discrimination. A dichotomous key to all species of the genus is provided.
