This experiment was conducted to evaluate the quality of existing ultra-high temperature (UHT) treated milk available in two selected town markets of Bangladesh. A total of 27 UHT milk samples from three different brands–Pran Dairy (A), Aarong Dairy (B) and Farm Fresh (C) were collected from local markets at Mymensingh and Gazipur districts during the period of 1stSeptember to 29th November, 2014. Parameters studied in this experiment were organoleptic (flavour, consistency, colour and appearance), physic-chemical (specific gravity, acidity, total solids, solids-not-fat, fat, protein, lactose, and ash) and microbiological (Total Viable Count and Coliform Count). All the samples were similar in respect of color, flavor, taste and texture, and no significant difference was observed. However, significant differences were revealed (p<0.05) in case of specific gravity, acidity, total solids, solids-not-fat, and protein content. On the other hand, insignificant differences were found (p>0.05) in case of fat, lactose, and ash content. Total Viable Count and Coliform count were found to be nil in all the milk samples. Milk samples of Farm Fresh UHT milk were superior to other brands of UHT Milk in terms of contents of total solids (119.23±0.57 g/kg),fat (34.97±0.35g/kg), lactose (43.23±0.51g/kg), and ash (7.00±0.26g/kg). Though there were some fluctuations in all the parameters studied, all the milk samples conformed to the standard values for UHT milk, and in general all of the UHT milk samples studied in this experiment was of good quality.Bang. Abstract. Chaerani N, Sudrajat DJ, Siregar IZ, Siregar UJ. 2019. Growth performance and wood quality of white jabon (Neolamarckia cadamba) progeny testing at Parung Panjang, Bogor, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 20: 2295-2301. The aim of this study was to evaluate the genetic parameters of growth and wood quality in white jabon progeny test at 54 months old in Parung Panjang, Bogor. The 105 half-sib families obtained from 12 provenances were evaluated in a randomized complete block design with five replications. Wood quality was assessed both in a non-destructive way using a pilodyn and by destructive method using wood sample taker. Results indicated that the mean value ranged from 5.10 to 10.15 m for height, 6.67 to 15.30 cm for diameter, 2.30 to 3.62 cm for pilodyn penetration, 0.66 to 0.82 g/cm3 for wood density, 0.33 to 0.50 for specific gravity, and 66 to 111 % for moisture content, respectively. There were significant differences among 105 families for all traits except moisture content. The high heritability estimate was found for height (0.4-0.69) and basic density (0.27-0.59). Applying 80% selection intensity on diameter and leaving 84 best families in each block will produce a high total genetic gain. Pilodyn penetration had negative correlation with diameter, wood density, and specific gravity.

The present study was conducted to investigate the milk quality from different genotype. A total 48 dairy cows belong to different genotypes such as Holstein cross, Jersey cross, Sahiwal cross and Red Chittagong were selected. Milk compositional viz. specific gravity, Acidity test, Fat test, Protein test, Solids-not-fat (SNF) test and total solids (TS) test were carried out. It was observed that the higher specific gravity of milk was obtained from Jersey cross and Red Chittagong genotype, which was significantly higher (P<0.01) than the other genotype of dairy cows. The highest acidity (%) was observed (0.165±0.014) in Red Chittagong and the lowest acidity (0.118±0.025) in Sahiwal cross. The highest fat (%) was observed from Red Chittagong cows milk which was statistically higher from Jersey cross and Sahiwal cross and the lowest fat (%) was found in the milk of Holstein cross cows. The highest SNF value was obtained from Jersey cross and the lowest from Sahiwal cross. On the other hand, Holstein cross and Red Chittagong was nearly similar. Red Chittagong milk sample showed the highest TS value and the lowest value was observed from Holstein cross. The highest protein value was found from Red Chittagong and the lowest from Holstein cross but the protein content of other two genotypes were nearly similar. A simple method to evaluate the quality of in vitro-matured bovine oocytes is available for development of an in vitro embryo production system. Oocyte quality relates closely to oocyte fatty acid composition and mitochondrial distribution. The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of the quality of cumulus–oocyte complexes (COCs) and serum supplementation in IVM medium on the distribution of bovine oocyte specific gravities by sedimentation with Percoll before and after IVM. COCs were aspirated from abattoir-derived ovaries and were classified as classes A to D by the morphology of their cumulus cell layers as follows: class A, compact and more than 3 layers thick; class B, compact but &lt;3 layers; class C, partially naked and &lt;3 layers; and class D, naked or expanded. The classified COCs were cultured in TCM-199 supplemented with 0.1% BSA, 5 µg mL−1 insulin, 10 µg mL−1 transferrin, and 10 ng mL−1 transforming growth factor-α (M199-BITT) for 22–24 h. To evaluate the influence of serum supplementation, oocytes from classes A and B were also incubated in M199-BITT as serum-free culture or TCM-199 supplemented with 10% fetal calf serum as serum-supplemented culture. Percoll solutions were prepared by diluting Percoll with PBS supplemented with 0.3% BSA, 1 mg mL−1 glucose, and 0.2 mM sodium pyrvate to 20, 17.5, 15, 12.5, 10, 7.5, and 5% solutions. After removal of cumulus cells, denuded oocytes were put on the surface of Percoll solution for 3 min, and the precipitated oocytes were transferred to stepwise high density solution. The percent of Percoll solution just before buoyancy was considered as the oocyte specific gravity value. Statistical analysis was performed by one-way ANOVA. Oocytes from class A had the highest specific gravities before and after IVM in all classes (Table 1). After IVM, oocyte specific gravities from classes A and C were higher than those of oocytes before IVM (class A: P &lt; 0.05, class C: P &lt; 0.001). The specific gravities of in vitro-matured oocytes cultured in serum-free medium were higher than those cultured in serum-supplemented medium (15.3 ± 0.3%, n = 71, and 14.0 ± 0.3%, n = 58; P &lt; 0.01). These results show that the specific gravity was affected by the morphological quality of COC, and the culture conditions for IVM may profile the metabolic activity of oocytes during IVM. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of marigold flower extract and paprika on egg quality of Black Avifran laying hens in different periods of storage. A completely randomized design study with a 3x3 factorial scheme with three diets (control, paprika, and marigold flower extract) and three storage periods (0, 7, and 14 days) was carried out. The following metrics were evaluated: egg weight, yolk weight, shell weight; yolk color, albumen height, specific gravity, and Haugh unit as well as the yolk, shell, and albumen percentage relative to the total weight of the egg. There was no significant interaction between additives and storage time (p > 0.05) for most of the parameters evaluated. The only exception was observed for yolk color, in which the interaction effect between treatments was significant (p < 0.05). The effect of storage time was significant (p < 0.05) for albumen weight, albumen percentage, yolk color, albumen height, specific gravity, and Haugh unit, with reduction of these parameters over the evaluation period. The use of paprika and marigold flower extract in the diets of Black Avifran laying hens does not influence egg quality.

The aim of this research was to study the effects of supplementation different legumes on the physical quality of biscuit complete ration based on hymenacne acutigluma. This study was conducted in Animal Feed and Nutrition Laboratory of Agriculture Faculty, Sriwijaya University. This study was done in 2 months. A completely randomized design with four treatments and four replicates was used in this study. Each treatments were P0= 70% kumpai grass + 30% concentrate + 0% legume, P1= 55% kumpai grass + 7.5% lamtoro leaves + 7.5% water mimmosa + 30% concentrate, P2= 55% kumpai grass + 7.5% acacia leaves + 30% concentrate, and P3= 55% kumpai grass + 5% lamtoro leaves + 5% acacia leaves + 5 % water mimmosa + 30% concentrate. Variables measured were water content, density, average collision endurance, specific gravity and water absorption. The result indicated that The adding of different legumes in the ration significantly (P<0.05) affected the specific gravity and water absorption, but no significant effect on density, average collision endurance. Duncan Multirange Range Test showed that treatment of control (P0) had the highest of water absorption (264.56%). The highest content of water gravity was obtained in the treatment of adding lamtoro, acacia and water mimmosa (P3), namely 0.9 g/ml water gravity. The conclusion of this study is the addition of different legumes in kumpai grass-based diets can improve the physical quality of the complete ration biscuit. The addition of lamtoro leaves, water mimosa and acacia at the level of 5%, gave the best result in specific gravity and water absorption.

The effect of seedpiece population on Carlton potatoes for the early tablestock market was evaluated under rainfed conditions in southern Manitoba over the 1982, 1983 and 1985 growing seasons. Populations of 21.7, 26.3, 33.3, and 45.5 thousand seedpieces per hectare were harvested 75, 85 and 95 d after planting each year. Total and marketable tuber yields increased with population. Tuber specific gravity increased with population in 1982 and in the first two harvests in 1983, but no trends were observed in 1985 and in the final harvest in 1983. The incidence of hollow heart in marketable tubers was very low in all 3 yr, and was not related to seedpiece population or date of harvest. Net crop value (NCV) usually increased with successive harvests within each year, and generally showed a positive relationship with seedpiece population.Key words: Potato, Solanum tuberosum L., Carlton, seedpiece population, hollow heart, specific gravity

Low quality shells are easily broken, have a high water content and low specific gravity, and contain little pearly and much chalky material. Pearly shell is secreted throughout the season before and after the chalk which it incloses. Chalky areas occur in all shells, have functional importance, are commonest in oysters that are poorest in late summer and are regular in their order of appearance and position on the shell. They are composed of large vertical calcite crystals in a porous mass of smaller crystals with a protein matrix.
