This paper reviews the findings of several engineering researchers and practitioners on the topic of design for the developing world. We arrange these findings into nine guiding principles aimed at helping those who are searching for effective approaches for design for the developing world. The findings reviewed come from the mechanical engineering discipline, as well as from other engineering and nonengineering disciplines. For each principle, we provide references to various studies as a means of supporting the principle. We also provide a detailed example of each principle. Based on our own experience and based on the many papers reviewed, we provide a succinct list of suggestions for using each principle. Finally, we relate these nine principles to traditional design principles. Ultimately, we believe that the principles introduced here help overcome the challenges of design for the developing world, which are often dominated by designer unfamiliarity with poverty and foreign culture and the constraint of extreme affordability.

Abstract The position underlying this article is that while pilots are not strictly required to justify moving in the direction of a basic income system, nevertheless they can play several useful functions in the debate. These include rebutting common preconceptions, for instance that basic income will make people ‘lazy’, indicating non-monetary benefits such as improved health and wellbeing, and testing how a basic income might best be introduced in a given region, country or city. In that context the article goes on to present 19 guiding principles for the design, implementation and evaluation of basic income pilots, with examples of selected experiments and pilots past and present.

Traditional Iranian houses, were built of heavy, voluminous building materials resulting in massive bearing wall structures. Such buildings had fixed architectural spaces, with defined boundaries and dimensions. However, the need for adaptability was fulfilled through creating multifunctional spaces, seasonal or even daily movements in the horizontal and vertical directions of house areas, and subdivision or expansion of the primary spaces. Urbanization in Iran is leading to gradual replacement of individual houses by residential complexes and apartments in which, the use of traditional design principles was lost, while solutions to enhance adaptability in the internal layouts have not yet developed. The paper concludes that open building may provide practical tools to enhance spatial variations in the new conditions. However, to take the first step towards this approach in Iran, some major issues such as "legal framework", "changing needs of Iranian families", "Iranian life styles" and "situation of industrial building production in Iran" have to be analyzed. Considering the mentioned factors, some recommendations for architectural design are proposed.

Researchers in the area of design for the developing world have synthesized knowledge from location-specific product case studies in the form of design guidance, which includes pitfalls, principles, and methods. Much of the design guidance relates to specific product classes and regions, while recent work is directed towards generalized principles. The aim of this paper is to fill gaps in product class-specific design guidance by creating larger groups of similar products, which share design characteristics. In this paper, we present a method for classifying products into such groups utilizing cluster analysis. We present a five-step method, which includes optional synthesis of design principles. The potential value of the method is demonstrated in a case study. The result included two distinct product groups, titled Products for Relief and Products for Development, and corresponding design principles for each group.

Terbukti dari banyaknya mahasiswa yang ikut ambil bagian dalam permainan ini, dari hasil pengamatan peneliti selaku mahasiswa yang aktif mendapatkan banyak data bahwa mahasiswa Pendidikan Teknik Mesin Universitas Negeri Manado yang aktif bermain memiliki kemampuan cara belajar yang kurang aktif dalam pembelajaran. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian deskriptif kuantitatif. Metode pengumpulan data yang digunakan yakni kuisioner atau angket. Teknik analisi data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu analisis statistik deskriptif, Teknik Analisis Regresi dan pengujian hipotesis.Hasil dari penelitian ini yakni : bahwa pengaruh game online (X) terhadap cara belajar mahasiswa (Y) pada taraf t hitung > t tabel dan hasil uji korelasi rxy 0849. Game online berpengaruh signifikan terhadap cara belajar. Ini dapat dibuktikan dari hasil nilai Fhitung sebesar 4.113 dan nilai signifikansi Ftabel 0.00 < 0.05. Besarnya koefisien determinasi sebesar 0.79 atau 79%. Hal ini berarti 79% pengaruh game online terhadap cara belajar mahasiswa sedangkan untuk selebihnya 21% dipengaruhi oleh variabel lain yang tidak diteliti oleh penelitian ini.   Kata kunci : Game Online, Cara Belajar Mahasiswa THE INFLUENCE OF ONLINE GAMES ON HOW STUDENTS STUDYING MECHANICAL ENGINEERING AT MANADO STATE UNIVERSITY ABSTRACT Manado university's advanced mechanical engineering student who is a migrant child has now had a very real impact on online gaming. It is evident from the many students participating in the game that researchers as active university students have received a wealth of data that students studying engineering at manado state university who actively play have a learning ability that is less active in learning. The study USES a quantitative descriptive study method. The data collection method used was "questionnaire or angket." The data analysis used in the study are descriptive statistical analysis, regression analysis and hypothetical testing. The results of this study are: that how online games affect students' learning (y) at a level of t count > t tables and rxy 0849 cordating results. Online games significantly affect how to learn. This can be verified from the results of the ftable value of 4,113 and the significance of ftable 0.00. Critical coefficiencies by 0.79 or 79%. This means 79% of the impact online games have on student learning while for the rest 21% are affected by other variables not examined by this study. Key words : Game Online, student learning

Public relations theory is the foundation for relations practices which management uses to accrue maximum benefits to all functions of the organization. Through a knowledgeable study of all facts concerning a given situation, a plan can be developed to achieve the end result of good relations. The problem of relations with the many publics in the everyday workings of a sanitarian or sanitation organization cannot be met or dismissed by a press release or speech. To develop a sound public relations program, the principles of theory must be considered. This paper has discussed three major principles. These are (a) consideration of fundamental matters, (b) organization involvement in decisions, and (c) evaluating the public interest. If these points are balanced with the actions of an organization, as a philosophy of management, the results will bring about the most favorable relations possible.
