AbstractThis work aims to review literature related to the latest cyber-physical systems (CPS) for manufacturing in the revolutionary Industry 4.0 for a comprehensive understanding of the challenges, approaches, and used techniques in this domain. Different published studies on CPS for manufacturing in Industry 4.0 paradigms through 2010 to 2019 were searched and summarized. We, then, analyzed the studies at a different granularity level inspecting the title, abstract, and full text to include in the prospective study list. Out of 626 primarily extracted relevant articles, we scrutinized 78 articles as the prospective studies on CPS for manufacturing in Industry 4.0. First, we analyzed the articles’ context to identify the major components along with their associated fine-grained constituents of Industry 4.0. Then, we reviewed different studies through a number of synthesized matrices to narrate the challenges, approaches, and used techniques as the key-enablers of the CPS for manufacturing in Industry 4.0. Although the key technologies of Industry 4.0 are the CPS, Internet of Things (IoT), and Internet of Services (IoS), the human component (HC), cyber component (CC), physical component (PC), and their HC-CC, CC-PC, and HC-PC interfaces need to be standardized to achieve the success of Industry 4.0.

This paper presents a subjective study conducted on the perception of auditory attributes depending on listener position and head orientation in an enclosed space. Two elicitation experiments were carried out using the repertory grid technique—in-situ and laboratory experiments—which aimed to identify perceptual attributes among 10 different combinations of the listener’s positions and head orientations in a concert hall. It was found that, between the in-situ and laboratory experiments, the listening positions and head orientations were clustered identically. Ten salient perceptual attributes were identified from the data obtained from the laboratory experiment. Whilst these included conventional attributes such as ASW (apparent source width) and LEV (listener envelopment), new attributes such as PRL (perceived reverb loudness), ARW (apparent reverb width) and Reverb Direction were identified, and they are hypothesised to be sub-attributes of LEV (listener envelopment). Timbral characteristics such as Reverb Brightness and Echo Brightness were also identified as salient attributes, which are considered to potentially contribute to the overall perceived clarity.

A very large number of buildings in developing countries are far from complying with the standards of housing. This paper presents the subjective study of the thermal comfort of a building that does not comply with construction standards or thermal regulations, located in Madagascar. Modeling was done using the Modelica tool, especially its BuildSysPro library. In order to minimize the inaccuracies, a step of an experimental adjustment of the developed numerical model was also carried out usingexperimental reference data that were obtained from the temperaturemeasurementsof the studied building elements as well as the wind speed and the received solar radiation flux. It was found that despite the obvious non-compliance with building standards and thermal regulations, the building has an acceptable thermal environment vis-à-vis its occupant.

This is a qualitative single subject intervention assessment involving the treatment of a 58 year old man, diagnosed with para-vertebral abscess due to tubercular pott’s spine with Diabetes since 2008, administered with neuro anaesthesia for pain management, which could not succeed in providing complete relief and hence a parallel attempt was made to treat the same through an integrative mind-body approach to resolving pain. Basic challenges in this process were to conceptualize a personalized approach based on the constitution and personality of the seeker and selection of specific tools of yoga therapy to suit the individual’s requirement. Adoption of yoga therapy involving synergized techniques resulted in holistic cure in a significantly reduced time interval. However, more studies are required to be adopted in the same manner to strengthen the line of the efficacy of such therapies in similar cases.

For a long time different studies have focused on introducing new image enhancement techniques. While these techniques show a good performance and are able to increase the quality of images, little attention has been paid to how and when overenhancement occurs in the image. This could possibly be linked to the fact that current image quality metrics are not able to accurately evaluate the quality of enhanced images. In this study we introduce the Subjective Enhanced Image Dataset (SEID) in which 15 observers are asked to enhance the quality of 30 reference images which are shown to them once at a low and another time at a high contrast. Observers were instructed to enhance the quality of the images to the point that any more enhancement will result in a drop in the image quality. Results show that there is an agreement between observers on when over-enhancement occurs and this point is closely similar no matter if the high contrast or the low contrast image is enhanced.

A framework based on a scripting language is commonly used in Web application development, and high development efficiency is often achieved by applying several Agile development techniques. However, the adaptation of security assurance techniques to support Agile development is still underway, particularly from the developer's perspective. The authors have addressed this problem by developing an iterative security testing method that splits the security test target application into two parts on the basis of the code lifecycle, application logic (“active development code”) and framework (“used code”). For the former, detailed security testing is conducted using static analysis since it contains code that is changed during the iterative development process. For the latter, an abstraction library at the command granularity level is created and maintained. The library identifies the behavior of an application from the security assurance standpoint. This separation reduces the amount of code to be statically inspected and provides a mechanism for sharing security issues among application developers using the same Web application framework. Evaluation demonstrated that this method can detect various types of Web application vulnerabilities.
