The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of refinement tasks on female seventh- and eighth-grade students’ (N = 200) daily practice success (average daily correct and total trials, and daily correct/total [C/T] ratios) and overall achievement (students’ pretest to posttest improvement) for an introductory 11-day volleyball unit. Six intact classes were randomly assigned to three groups: (a) control, (b) group receiving refinement tasks during skills progressions (extension, refinement, and application [E/R/A] group), (c) group receiving no refinement tasks during skills progressions (extension and application [E/A] group). From the analysis of the data, it was concluded that refinement tasks did have a significant positive effect on students’ daily practice success (daily C/T ratio) and overall achievement.

186 seventh and eighth grade students were administered the Rotter Incomplete Sentences Blank: High School Form with instructions amended so that the students would be aware of the importance of supplying grammatically correct responses. Rotter protocols were scored for errors in grammar and were submitted to a school psychologist, who through clinical inspection only estimated semester language arts grades for the students. Most types of grammatical errors correlated significantly with semester grades earned in language arts class, but clinical inspection of the Rotter protocols yielded the highest correlation (.54) with the criterion. Girls earned significantly higher language arts grades than boys.

The purposes of this study are to analyze the types of grammatical errors and to know the types of grammatical error which are frequently made by the junior high school students in speaking English. The research design in this study was descriptive qualitative design with the eighth grade students in second semester of SMP Negeri 4 Singaraja as the population and 33 students were chosen to be the sample. The instruments that were used to collect the data were researcher and video recorder. The result showed that students made error in omission, addition, misinformation, and misordering. The total of errors reaches 61 times. The highest frequency of error is omission which is 62.30%. The second frequency of error is misordering, 18,4%. The third frequency of error is addition which is 14,75%. The last frequency of error is misformation that is 4,91%. Grammatical error, Speaking

This research believes that junior high school students in eighth grade need suitable and interesting reading material to develop their literacy skills which one way to achieve it is to design graphic novels of learning material on it. This research designed in the form of design and development (D&D) model proposed by Richey and Klein (2007). The development model used in this research was Richey and Klein’s (2007) ADDE model. The result was a graphic novel as an attractive literacy media that was developed for assisting eighth grade junior high school students’ literacy skills. Based on the content validity judgement, the graphic novel was highly relevant to the twelve criteria of a good graphic novel with minor revision. The quality judgment was utilized to determine whether or not the graphic novel was already qualified to serve as a good literacy source by using expert judgement. There were two expert judges and twelve users who took role in judging the quality of the graphic novel. Based on the quality judgement, the graphic novel was categorized as excellent media. Thus, the graphic novel was categorized as excellent media for assisting eighth grade students’ literacy skills.

The purpose of this study is to examine the achievement and improvement of junior high school students' mathematical communication ability using discovery learning models and props of statistical kenik compared to students who use ordinary learning, and student activities during learning using discovery learning models and props of statistical kenik to take place. This study used a quasi-experimental design. The experimental group obtained learning with discovery learning models and props of statistical kenik and control groups obtained regular learning. The instrument used was a test of mathematical communication ability. The population in this study were all eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Cilamaya Kulon Karawang. With the sample subjects were eighth grade students as many as two classes from the five existing classes randomly selected. The results of this study are: (1) There is achievement and improvement of mathematical communication ability between students whose learning uses discovery learning models and props of statistical kenik compared to students who use ordinary learning; (2) Learning by using discovery learning models and visual aids shows that the learning process is more effective in mathematical problems solving and students can find statistical material concepts.

The aims of this study is to examine the matter of training with the achievement of metacognitive knowledge categorized by HOTS. The research data focuses on the training of the dimension of metacognitive knowledge of HOTS in the books of seventh, eighth, and ninth grade students published by the Ministry of Education and Culture. The data collection techniques used are documentation and field notes. The results showed that the dimension of metacognitive knowledge in junior high school students' books was the metacognitive subtype of self-knowledge. Metacognitive knowledge in seventh and ninth grader students is trained through literacy activities and identified as a sub-type of self-knowledge based on the object phrases that wants students to choose books based on their interests and usefulness. The book for eighth grade student’s metacognitive self-knowledge is trained through reflection on learning material that has been learned. The questions categorized HOTS in eighth grade are marked with question words and verbs, and ninth grade are marked with question words. A slight difference is seen in seventh grade which is marked with nouns in the format of assignments in the form of tables.

The purpose of this study was to describe the process of transformation and complexity of embedded sentences. This type of research is a one-site case study. The data source of this study was the verbal text of the students' utterances. The data, in the form of accepted sentences, were analyzed by using the interactive model of Milles & Huberman. The results shows that the transformation process in junior high school students’ embedded sentences of spoken Bahasa Indonesia were included the use of TTF, TTKLesap, TTNom, TTGanKlit, TSA, TSPelFN, and TSPelFVrules. The complexity of students’ sentence is shown by the use of the seven rules of transformation in a sentence. This finding shows that the eighth grade students have syntactic competence in the transformation of embedded sentences.
