Members of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex cause tuberculosis, infamous for enormous impacts on human health. As zoonoses, they also threaten endangered species like African/Asian elephants. We report the whole-genome sequences of Mycobacterium tuberculosis biovars tuberculosis and bovis from two zoo elephants in the United States.

ABSTRACT Clostridium botulinum secretes a potent neurotoxin that causes devastating effects when ingested, including paralysis and death if not treated. In the United States, some clinically significant strains produce toxin type A while also harboring a silent B gene. These are the first two closed genome sequences published for this subset.

We report the draft whole-genome sequences of two Borrelia miyamotoi strains isolated in The Netherlands. Using next-generation sequencing, we determined the complete sequence of the chromosomes and several plasmids. The two strains show a genotype typical of European strains, distinct from the genomes of strains from Asia or the United States.

Here, the genome sequences of two soil bacteriophages isolated from a red chili plantation in Indonesia are presented. The genome of vB_BspS_SplendidRed (42,859 bp) is highly similar to Bacillus phage Ray17 from the United States, while vB_BspM_MarvelLand (156,945 bp) is highly similar to Bacillus phage BC01 from South Korea.

ABSTRACT mcr-1, a plasmid-associated gene for colistin resistance, was first described in China in 2015, but its spread in the United States is unknown. We report detection of mcr-1-carrying Escherichia coli ST117 in a cluster of three liver transplant recipients.

ABSTRACT This paper describes the whole-genome sequences for three Streptococcus agalactiae serotype Ia isolates. The isolates were recovered from the brains of clinically sick tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus, that were suffering from streptococcosis. One isolate was from tilapia in the United States and the other two from fish in China.

ABSTRACT Mycobacteriophages OKaNui and DroogsArmy were isolated from soil using the bacterial host Mycobacterium smegmatis mc2155, which belongs to the phylum Actinobacteria. OKaNui was discovered in east Mississippi and DroogsArmy in west Alabama in the United States. The genomes of OKaNui and DroogsArmy were 51,424 bp and 53,254 bp long, respectively.

We sequenced the genomes of eight isolates from various regions of the United States. These isolates form a monophyletic cluster clearly related to but distinct from Vibrio cholerae.

Pathogenic Leptospira species represent a major concern for livestock but also for human health, as they cause zoonotic infections. Forty strains representing L. interrogans, L. borgpetersenii, and L. noguchii were isolated from naturally infected cattle in Uruguay. Here, we report the whole-genome sequences for these strains.

A 2014 foodborne salmonellosis outbreak in Canada and the United States implicated, for the first time, sprouted chia seed powder as the vehicle of transmission. Here, we report the draft whole genome sequences of two Salmonella enterica strains isolated from sprouted powders related to the aforementioned outbreak.
