We sequenced the genomes of eight isolates from various regions of the United States. These isolates form a monophyletic cluster clearly related to but distinct from Vibrio cholerae.

ABSTRACT Clostridium botulinum secretes a potent neurotoxin that causes devastating effects when ingested, including paralysis and death if not treated. In the United States, some clinically significant strains produce toxin type A while also harboring a silent B gene. These are the first two closed genome sequences published for this subset.

A 2014 foodborne salmonellosis outbreak in Canada and the United States implicated, for the first time, sprouted chia seed powder as the vehicle of transmission. Here, we report the draft whole genome sequences of two Salmonella enterica strains isolated from sprouted powders related to the aforementioned outbreak.

ABSTRACT Livestock-associated methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (LA-MRSA) is a bacterium carried by or obtained from swine and other livestock. The initial and predominant swine-associated LA-MRSA sequence type (ST) identified is ST398. Here, we present 14 draft genome sequences from LA-MRSA ST398 isolates found in the United States.

Members of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex cause tuberculosis, infamous for enormous impacts on human health. As zoonoses, they also threaten endangered species like African/Asian elephants. We report the whole-genome sequences of Mycobacterium tuberculosis biovars tuberculosis and bovis from two zoo elephants in the United States.

ABSTRACT Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus colonizes humans and other animals such as swine. Livestock-associated methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (LA-MRSA) sequence type 5 (ST5) isolates are a public concern due to their pathogenicity and ability to acquire mobile genetic elements. This report presents draft genome sequences for 63 LA-MRSA ST5 isolates in the United States.

ABSTRACT Here, we report the draft genome sequences of three penicillin-resistant Neisseria gonorrhoeae isolates. We include associated data on MICs and genetic relationships to other N. gonorrhoeae strains collected from across the United States. Resistance mutations known to contribute to reduced penicillin susceptibility are annotated in each genome.

Genome sequences of two type B and two type S strains of Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis are presented. These strains were isolated in the United States from sheep, bison, and cattle suffering from Johne’s disease. These genomes will increase our understanding of the minor differences that exist among this genetically stable subspecies.

ABSTRACT The whole-genome sequences (WGS) of 28 isolates from the International Space Station were generated and identified as Rhodotorula mucilaginosa, a pigmented yeast that has been classified as an emerging human pathogen in recent times. These WGS enable the identification of genes responsible for synthesizing compounds with biological implications.
