Scholars increasingly agree that histories of racial violence relate to contemporary patterns of conflict and inequality, and growing interest exists among civic leaders in reckoning with these legacies today. This volume examines the contributions and limitations of scientific research on legacies of racial violence and suggests implications for policy, practice, and other forms of intervention aimed at redress.

Liquid crystals are a type of soft matter that is intermediate between crystalline solids and isotropic fluids. The study of liquid crystals has made tremendous progress over the past four decades, which is of great importance for fundamental scientific research and has widespread applications in industry. In this paper we review the mathematical models and their connections to liquid crystals, and survey the developments of numerical methods for finding rich configurations of liquid crystals.

Abstract Political parties in Albania on several occasions during the past two decades have won the election in certain areas over 3 times in a row. While victory and governance of the same area, for sure creates a margin consumption which has affected the dynamics of the bastions at least in the recent national election. Parties are consumed in their strongholds if they decide the same candidates, either as a political force. In the focus of this article, will be the consuming steps of political parties in their stronghold areas, either reflecting the fall results during the election process. Will we have a final rupture in Albania consumption bastions of political parties and how would be the future of dynamic bastion, will be the question of this article scientific research. A fracture would have strongholds in shqipare perfuindimtare the consumption of political parties and how will be the future of dynamics will be bastions of this artikulil question scientific research. Bastion’s consumption occurs mainly from major political forces on the left if either of right on the study will be taken 4 constituencies which voted for the same party in three elections one by one. In our focus will be general elections, not local elections.

Over the past thirty years, many reforms have been carried out in the education of intellectually, physically perfect youth. Mathematics is identified as one of the priority areas for the development of science in our country in 2020. Over the past period, a number of systematic works have been carried out aimed at raising mathematical science to a qualitatively new level. In order to further improve the system of teaching mathematical science at all levels of education, to support the effective work of teachers, to expand the scale and practical importance of scientific research, strengthen ties with the international community, and also fulfill the tasks identified in the State Program for the Implementation of the Five-Step Action Strategy priority areas of development of the Republic of Uzbekistan in 2017 - 2021 in the "Year of the development of science, education and the digital economy".

This chapter explores the need for a new approach in psychiatry other than the biopsychosocial (BPS) model, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), and neurobiology. Pierre Loebel and Julian Savulescu, in their introduction to this book, laid out an honourable purpose, seeking to make sense of psychiatric conditions holistically. They hoped the BPS model could serve this purpose. The model has done so in part, but also, after half a century of effort, it has failed to do so in the end. The goals are worthy and the seekers of those goals have integrity. But perhaps their intentions will be best served by something else, a successor to the past BPS model, built on a rejection of a false DSM diagnostic system as well as a purely neurobiological approach to research. In the end, what Loebel and his colleagues want to do is to preserve a place for humanism in psychiatry, and to link clinical practice to solid scientific research. These laudable principles can be achieved only by a radical departure from the DSM-based neurobiological conventional wisdom of the present and the past.

A healthy ferment exists in various fields of scientific research and management on Canadian freshwater fisheries. Important achievements have been registered in ecology, as well as in economics and on legal–jurisdictional aspects. The time is right to bring some order into recent administrative chaos to consolidate scientific contributions of the past, to encourage some recent initiatives, and to expedite research that is explicitly interdisciplinary, i.e. organized from transdisciplinary perspectives and conducted so that the contributions of various disciplines are not readily discernible in the end products. A capability to transfer insights and information directly to planning and decision-making on large fisheries programs, on major industrial developments, and to regional governments and agencies is badly needed. Such a capability for freshwater fisheries can be stimulated into maturity by expanding and developing some five or six interdisciplinary and interinstitutional scientific networks that have evolved in various parts of Canada in recent decades. These and other specific conclusions are specified in some detail.

Over the past couple of decades, the apparent widespread occurrence of Questionable Research Practices (QRPs) in scientific research has been widely discussed in the research ethics literature as a source of concern. Various ways of reducing their use have been proposed and implemented, ranging from improved training and incentives for adopting best practices to systematic reforms. This article reports on the results of two studies that investigated the efficacy of simple, psychological interventions aimed at changing researcher attitudes toward QRPs. While the interventions did not significantly modify researchers’ reactions to QRPs, they showed differential efficacy depending on scientists’ experience, suggesting complexities in researcher psychology and the ethics of QRPs that merit further study.

When the flattering invitation to deliver this year’s Croonian Lecture before your far-farmed Royal Society reached me, I first of all felt considerable hesitation as to whether I should be able to discharges so honourable a task. The very choice, out of the field of my investigations, of a subject which should be suitable for lecturing to you about, presented a very real difficulty. During the past 20 years I have been working principally in three departments of scientific research— the Nervous System of Vertebrata and Invertebrata, Physical Anthropology in Sweden , and the Spermia of Animals of all Orders .

SummaryThe Giara pony is a less known, equine breed of small stature, typical of the island of Sardinia. It draws its denomination from the highland of the Giara, where it lives in the wild. The ponies appeared in Sardinia approximately in the VII century B. C. Recent research, carried out on haemoglobin polymorphism, underlined some analogies with the Arabic horses of North-Africa.These ponies, have a dolyichomorphic-type constitution with long, naked and resistant legs. In the past they were used for agricultural work, however later, with the increase of mechanisation, they returned to the Giara highland where they became feral. The Giara ponies, in the light of recent scientific research, possess not only an inestimable genetic patrimony but they also represent a large source of interest for the equestrian sport, and, above all, for children's riding therapy. The author underlines, finally, that the principal material of this article has been outlined in a symposium held at the University of Sassari 18/11/1997, entitled: “Phenomenology of the environment: psycho-social and zoo-anthropological perspectives”.

Among the many new phenomena observed in Russia over the past decade is the rapid development of financial law, which has occupied a very modest place among other branches of law and legal sciences for many years. Until then, the legislation containing the rules of financial law had been few, with mainly government decrees and instructions from the central financial and credit authorities. Financial law did not generate much interest as a subject of study and scientific research. There has been a different picture in recent years. The legislative basis for regulating financial relations is actively being formed, and interest in financial law has increased sharply from management structures in all areas of economic activity, state authorities and local self-government bodies and citizens, especially entrepreneurs.
