Abstract Free-living nematodes, an ancient animal phylum of unsegmented microscopic roundworms, have successfully adapted to nearly every ecosystem on Earth: from marine and freshwater to land, from the polar regions to the tropics, and from the mountains to the ocean depths. They are globally the most abundant animals in sediments and soils. In the present article, we identify the factors that collectively explain the successful ecological proliferation of free-living nematodes and demonstrate the impact they have on vital sediment and soil processes. The ecological success of nematodes is strongly linked to their ability to feed on various food sources that are present in both sediments and soils, and to proliferate rapidly and survive in contrasting environmental conditions. The adaptations, roles, and behaviors of free-living nematodes have important implications for the resilience of sediments and soils, and for emergent animal communities responding to human alterations to ecosystems worldwide.

Every country is engaging its armed forces in different terrain and climatic conditions to protectsovereignty and manage internal conflict. During peace / wartime conflicts, the soldiers are subjected toextremeenvironmental conditions. These extreme, hostile, non-habitable conditions exert a toll on the soldiers’ performance and also pose threat to theirlife. Airmen are prone to be exposed to low pressures, high altitude, and hypoxic conditions. Similarly,a Mariner is exposed to high pressuresand hydro environment. Land soldiers are deployed in various terrain having myriadenvironmental conditions such ashigh temperature in deserts, subzero cold conditions in the high mountains andvarying range of difficulties encountered in forested hilly terrain. In addition to these adverse conditions, soldiers also need to counter theconflicts from neighboring / enemy countries. It is paramount that, these soldiers are protected from all these adverse extreme environmental conditions.

In recent years, with electron microscopes coming into wider use, their installation environments do not necessarily give their performance full play. Their environmental conditions include air-conditioners, magnetic fields, and vibrations. We report a jointly developed entirely new vibration isolator which is effective against the vibrations transmitted from the floor.Conventionally, large-sized vibration isolators which need the digging of a pit have been used. These vibration isolators, however, are large present problems of installation and maintenance because of their large-size.Thus, we intended to make a vibration isolator which1) eliminates the need for changing the installation room2) eliminates the need of maintenance and3) are compact in size and easily installable.

The influence of environmental conditions on a sound pressure reproduced by the primary method in the measuring chambers of the Pistonphone in the frequency range from 1 mHz to 250 Hz is estimated. Numerical estimations of influence of environmental conditions on sound pressure in pistonphone measuring chambers are given and special requirements to system of maintenance of required external conditions are specified.
