Various physicochemical characteristics and the biological activity of two murine lymphoma viruses (S-63 and GC), originally isolated in this laboratory and previously reported as sharing common antigenic properties with human and bovine lymphomas, are defined. These viruses are stable at temperature ranges from −70 °C to +4 °C and are inactivated after incubation at +56 °C for 30 min. They withstand lyophilization and are inactivated by treatment with ethanol, acetone, ethyl ether, formalin, and phenol. Both agents are of the ribonucleic acid, double-membraned viruses, similar to myxoviruses, and are approximately 100 mμ in size.

Abstract Purpose: Little is known regarding the combined impact of plant and soil traits on the soil bacterial community. Herein, we assessed physical and chemical properties along with bacterial community structure in soils sampled at different depths (0–20 cm, 20–40 cm, and 40–60 cm) and slope positions (peak, hillside, and bottom), in Camellia oleifera monoculture and mixed Gardenia jasminoides–Camellia oleifera stands. Methods: Soil physicochemical characteristics were determined using standard methods. The composition of soil bacterial communities was evaluated using high-throughput sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene. Results: Soil organic carbon, humus, and total organic contents were higher in G. jasminoides + C. oleifera low-yielding forest than in other stands, however, the NH4+-N levels were significantly lower than that in monoculture. The slope position did not greatly influence soil physical and chemical properties. The dominant bacteria were Proteobacteria, Chloroflexi, Acidobacteria, and Actinobacteria. The alpha and beta diversity and abundance of soil bacterial community were higher in intercropping systems than in monoculture systems. Potassium and nitrogen levels and pH significantly affected the soil microbial community composition. Correlation analysis revealed that alkaline hydrolysable nitrogen and pH were significantly correlated with the input of plant-associated organic matter and dynamic changes of keystone taxa.Conclusion: G. jasminoides improved the physicochemical characteristics of C. oleifera low-yielding soil and greatly affected the soil bacterial community, further improving the soil microecological environment. Therefore, this specific intercropping system is an effective strategy for improving soil health.

A new biological preparation based on bacterial autolisates with the addition of the mineral glauconite has been obtained and studied its physical and chemical properties and biological activity .


The asbestos minerals fall into two groups of differing genetic, physical and chemical properties, their only common feature being their fibrous nature. Chrysotile is a sheet silicate, having a layered structure in the form of a scroll or ture, while the amphibole fibres are chain silicates with a lath-like structure. The biological effects of asbestos depend firstly on its ability to form very small fibres capable of aerial suspension, inhalation and subsequent deposition in the minutest airways of the lung; secondly on the texture of these fibres and their ability to penetrate living tissue; and thirdly on their chemistry, not only considering their resistance to decomposition, but the way in which they may react with or adsorb other compounds. This paper compares the physical and chemical properties of asbestos fibres insofar as these may influence biological activity and attempts to underline those contrasting features which may relate to the degrees of activity of the major types of asbestos.

In connection with the spectrophotometric study of population-type characteristics of various kinds of stars, a statistical analysis of kinematical and distribution parameters of the same stars is performed at the Toruń Observatory. This has a twofold purpose: first, to provide a practical guide in selecting stars for observing programmes, second, to contribute to the understanding of relations existing between the physical and chemical properties of stars and their kinematics and distribution in the Galaxy.

Organic farming is one of the management strategies that improve productivity of marginal uplands. The study aimed to: (1) evaluate effects of various organic-based fertilizers on the growth and yield of corn; (2) determine the appropriate combination for optimum yield; and (3) assess changes on the soil physical and chemical properties. Experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design, with 3 replications and 7 treatments, namely; T0=(0-0-0); T1=1t ha-1 Evans + 45-30-30kg N, P2O5, K2O ha-1; T2=t ha-1 Wellgrow + 45-30-30kg N, P2O5, K2O ha-1; T3=15t ha-1 chicken dung; T4=10t ha-1 chicken dung + 45-30-30kg N, P2O5, K2O ha-1; T5=15t ha-1 Vermicast; and T6=10t ha-1 Vermicast + 45-30-30kg N, P2O5, K2O ha-1. Application of organic-based fertilizers with or without inorganic fertilizers promoted growth of corn than the control. But due to high infestation of corn silk beetle(Monolepta bifasciata Horns), its grain yield was greatly affected. In the second cropping, except for Evans, any of these fertilizers applied alone or combined with 45-30-30kg N, P2O5, K2O ha-1 appeared appropriate in increasing corn earyield. Soil physical and chemical properties changed with addition of organic fertilizers. While bulk density decreased irrespective of treatments, pH, total N, available P and exchangeable K generally increased more with chicken dung application.
