In the present work, an extensive research program has been undertaken to characterise a wide spectrum of properties of nano-metals. In particular, the effect of grain refinement on such properties as fatigue, corrosion and wear resistance, conductivity and thermal stability has been studied for various nano-metals (aluminium, copper and iron alloys). The results have revealed that nano-grain refinement also improves physical properties of single phase metals. A disadvantageous effect of large (micron sized) particles, which do not undergo refinement during the processing, has been also recognized.

In this paper, the influence of electromagnetic stirring on the grain size of A356 alloy inoculated by Al-5Ti-B was investigated. It is found that when stirring is applied at the same time with Al-5Ti-B, the inoculation effect will be disabled. X-ray determination and SEM observation show that stirring hinders the deposition of TiB2 particles; consequently hinder the formation of TiAl3 particles, which were proved to be the nucleus of primary α aluminum phase. If the stirring time is short, the grain size will be abnormally coarse. This experiment also confirms that the grain refinement of rheocasting is caused by dendrite fracture instead of modified nucleation.

A fine grain size generally leads to improved structural uniformity of magnesium alloys. AlN has been identified as a potential grain refiner and electromagnetic stirring may have great effects on microstructure and grain growth. This study will be focused on the effects of AlN particles and electromagnetic stirring on the as-cast structure of AZ31 alloys. The grain refinement mechanism of both methods on magnesium alloy and their interaction effects are also discussed.

The effects of rotating electromagnetic stirring and inoculants on the solidification structures and properties of IN100 superalloy vacuum investment casting was studied with XRD, SEM and optical microscope. The results show that by initiating the 50Hz, 150A rotating electromagnetic stirring as soon as the molten metal was poured into the mould, which was coated with inoculant CoAl2O4, the average equiaxed grain size of IN100 superalloy vacuum investment casting can be refined to 95μm and the fraction of equiaxed grains can be increased to 99 %. On condition that the grain size of K417 superalloy vacuum investment casting were refined to 95μm, the tensile properties at room temperature, the morphology of (γ+γ′)eutectic and the morphology of dendrites can be greatly improved.

Timber Acacia mangium (Acacia mangium, Willd) for Furniture. The study aims to determine the mechanical and physical properties and the decorative value (color and fiber) wood of acacia mangium with using finishing materials. This type of finishing material used is ultran lasur natural dof ,ultran lasur classic teak, aqua politur clear dof, aqua politur akasia dan aqua politur cherry. After finishing the wood is stored for 3 months. Test parameters were observed, namely, physical and mechanical properties of wood, adhesion of finishing materials, color and appearance of the fiber, and timber dimensions expansion. The results showed that the mechanical physical properties of acacia wood qualified SNI. 01-0608-89 about the physical and mechanical properties of wood for furniture, air dry the moisture content from 13.78 to 14.89%, flexural strength from 509.25 to 680.50 kg/cm2, and compressive strength parallel to fiber 342.1 - 412.9 kg/cm2. Finishing the treatment process using five types of finishing materials can increase the decorative value (color and fiber) wood. Before finishing the process of acacia mangium wood has the appearance of colors and fibers and less attractive (scale scores 2-3), after finishing acacia wood fibers have the appearance of colors and interesting and very interesting (scale 4-5).Keywords: mangium wood, mechanical properties, decorative value, finishing, furniture.

Abstract BLACK DIAMOND STANDARD is an electric-furnace-melted, water-hardening carbon tool steel with an excellent reputation for use as the standard in general shop tools requiring extreme toughness and resistance to shock and impact. In the lower carbon ranges (0.50-0.70% carbon), it is used primarily for tools such as pins, punches, hammers and sledges. Black Diamond may be expected to give uniform and consistent results, although no definite limits of case depth or grain size are regularly guaranteed. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and elasticity. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, machining, joining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: TS-281. Producer or source: Crucible Specialty Metals Division, Colt Industries.
