AUTHENTICATION OF FINGERPRINT BIOMETRICS ACQUIRED USING A CELLPHONE CAMERA: A REVIEW

Over the past decade, there have been dramatic increases in the usage of mobile phones in the world. Currently available smart mobile phones are capable of storing enormous amounts of personal information/data. The smart mobile phone is also capable of connecting to other devices, with the help of different applications. Consequently, with these connections comes the requirement of security to protect personal information. Nowadays, in many applications, a biometric fingerprint recognition system has been embedded as a primary security measure. To enable a biometric fingerprint recognition system in smart mobile phones, without any additional costs, a built-in high performance camera can be utilized. The camera can capture the fingerprint image and generate biometric traits that qualify the biometric fingerprint authentication approach. However, the images acquired by a mobile phone are entirely different from the images obtained by dedicated fingerprint sensors. In this paper, we present the current trend in biometric fingerprint authentication techniques using mobile phones and explore some of the future possibilities in this field.

<p class="p1"><span class="s1">Considering the deficiency that the existing automobile accident self-rescue system requires to assemble the specific sensor, GPS and communication module, the author designed a vehicle collision or  crash detection and accident self-rescue system based on the smart mobile phone groups. Taking the acceleration signals of physical moments from the smart mobile phones in the accidents car as the input samples and the assembly of acceleration data as the calculating thresholds, the system can not only improve the accuracy rating of the judgments about the accidents, but can also reduce the unusable distress signals due to the damages to individual vehicle-borne device or mobile phone in severe accidents. When the signals exceed the threshold value, the system can draw support from the functions of video, GPS positioning and 3G networking in the mobile phones automatically to call for help from the rescue center. Meanwhile, a prototype system has been implemented on Android platform. The results of the experiments indicate that the system possesses the advantages of high accuracy of collision or crash recognition, low energy consumption and low cost.</span></p>

The access to agricultural information in Sudan continues to be challenging to farmers due to use of inadequate sources and traditional extension approaches. The rapid growth of smart-mobile phones usage in developing countries resulted in several advantages compared to other alternatives in term of costs, geographic coverage and ease of use. This research was conducted in North Kordofan Sate to explore the role of smart-mobile phone in accessing agricultural information. Primary data were obtained by structured questionnaires and focus group discussion through participatory rural appraisal and observation while secondary data were collected from scientific journals, books and authenticated web sources. A number of 230 respondents (10% from total farmers) were interviewed and five focus group discussions were done. Statistical Packages for Social Science (SPSS) version 22 was used to analyze the data with aid of descriptive statistics and Chi-squire Test. The result indicated that most of the respondents fall in age group between 21-40 years, and they depend on farm activity. There was 90% of farmers processed mobile phone since more than three years ago, 90.8%continuedto use smart mobile phone to access agricultural information and showed positive contribution towards income generation. The results also revealed that there was positive perception towards using mobile phones which showed more efficient in use than radio and TVs. The results showed great advantages of using smart mobile phone where 75.2 % of respondents preferred to get agricultural information, logistics and other needs through successful communication in the mid of agricultural season. Results of Chi-squire test showed significant differences between the parameters tested. The study recommended that farmers should be connected with mobile phones to admit ease communication with agricultural extension offices and quick access to their needs and logistics.

Cloud computing as a new model of information technology, which is emerging as computing concept that promises provision of computational resources on demand and abstraction of technical details from the clients, in the IT sector has attracted more and more attention. Nowadays, with the popularity of smart mobile phones, the increasing functions of smart mobile phone could not meet the requirements of users. To solve this problem, cloud computing is applied in smart mobile phone. Finally, the detail of the current station of the application of cloud computing in smart mobile phone and some introductions of how to develop the application will be introduced.

Background & Objectives: Excessive use of mobile phones has raised a great concern about adverse health effects on human health. The present study’s aim was to investigate the association of the usage of smartphones with cognitive function impairment in the Saudi adult population. Methods: The present cross-sectional study was conducted in the Department of Physiology, College of Medicine, King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia during September 2019 to January 2020. A total of 251 Saudi adults who were using mobile phones were recruited, and knowledge, attitude and practices were assessed by interview using a predesigned proforma. The Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MOCA) tool was employed to assess the cognitive functions, comparison was made between daily mobile phone usage group and their correlated Montreal Cognitive Score (MOCA). Results: The mean age for 251 Saudi adult participants was 32.43±12.8 years. More than 80% of the participants used their mobile phone for more than two hours daily. About 61% of the participants were not aware of the side effect of the radiation generated from mobile phone. The participants showed a decrease in MOCA score with increased daily mobile phone usage (MOCA=26.8 for <1 hour daily usage, 26.1 for 1-2 hours, and 24.6 for >2 hours with P< 0.05). In addition, participants showed decreased MOCA score by keeping their mobile phone near their pillow while sleeping; MOCA=24.35 for near pillow groups and >25.5 for the groups that placed their mobile phone away from the pillow. Conclusions: Excessive use of mobile phones can cause cognitive function impairment. Strict policies must be implemented to control the use of smartphones in order to minimize the effects on mobile phone radiation on cognition. When dealing with such complex systems such as the software package of a smart mobile phone, it is necessary to apply powerful methods to detect and report errors when they occur. This paper probes and analyzes a powerful debug method called trap and exception handling, which is supported by the ARM platforms. The method can easily capture some valuable debug information. When a fatal error occurs during runtime or system detects an abnormal, a trap or an exception shall be logged and stored in the non-volatile random access memory (NVRAM). The information must be enough and easy for engineer to analyze the software error.
