Biomimetic models of nitric oxide synthase for the oxidation of oximes to carbonyl compounds catalyzed by water-soluble manganese porphyrins in aqueous solution

A mild green and efficient approach for hydrogen peroxide oxidative converting oximes to the corresponding carbonyl compounds with a water-soluble manganese porphyrin as catalyst in water/acetone mixture has been developed. The water-soluble manganese porphyrin showed an excellent activity for the oxidative deoximation reactions of various oximes under ambient conditions in the absence of any additive. The oxidative deoximation was through the formation of high valent oxo-manganese species, which was confirmed by in situ UV-vis spectroscopy.

A new green, environmentally friendly and economically feasible method for the oxygenation of benzaldehyde, cinnamaldehyde, 4-chlorobenzaldehyde and 4-bromobenzaldehyde to the corresponding carboxylic acids using air in the presence of hemoglobin as a water-soluble catalyst in aqueous media at room temperature is illustrated. The resulting products were obtained with (77–100%) conversion and 100% selectivity within a reasonable amount of time. In addition, the first direct characterization of a high-valent iron intermediate (HbFe[Formula: see text]O) measured using Mass Spectroscopy (MS) and UV-vis spectroscopy proved that the major route for oxidation of aldehydes is (HbFe[Formula: see text]O) production.

The water-soluble conjugated polyelectrolyte, poly[3-(1′-propyloxy-3′-sodium sulfonate) thiophene] (PTH-n3-SO3Na), was prepared. The interaction between the PTH-n3-SO3Na and bovine serum albumin (BSA) was investigated using UV-vis spectroscopy. It was found that the PTH-n3-SO3Na could be used as biosensor to detect BSA.

Water-soluble, metal-tetrasubstituted phthalocyanines ( -SO3H , MPcS and -COOH , MPcC) of platinum and ruthenium were synthesized and their photostability to visible light irradiation was determined. For the ruthenium phthalocyanines, the characteristic visible Q band of the phthalocyanines was almost totally suppressed after five days of irradiation. The platinum derivatives were instead more resistant to photodegradation, and the Q band did not decrease by more than 25%. The addition of carbonyl compounds to the phthalocyanine solution in water (at concentrations at least 1400-fold those of the phthalocyanines) dramatically accelerated the photobleaching of these phthalocyanine complexes. PtPcS turned from blue to green and to colorless with one day of visible-light irradiation in the presence of acetone. This effect decreased with the increase in molecular weight of the ketones (from acetone to 2-pentanone). The addition of alcohols (i.e. 1-butanol) or other organics (i.e. phenylacetic acid) did not affect the photostability of these metal-tetrasubstituted phthalocyanines. Dioxygen also had an important role, as when the solutions of phthalocyanines were carefully deaerated before irradiation, the visible spectra were preserved. The platinum phthalocyanines, as with the palladium analogs, sensitize the photoproduction of 1O2 , as shown by the formation of endoperoxide and its rearranged products in the presence of furfuryl alcohol (a singlet oxygen trapping agent).

Chitosan-ionic liquid conjugation (CILC), which was prepared through the reaction of 1-(4-bromobutyl)-3-methylimidazolium bromide (BBMIB) with chitosan, was firstly used to prepare functionalized graphene composite via the chemical reduction of graphene oxide (GO). The obtained water soluble graphene-based composite was characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), ultraviolet-visible (UV–Vis) spectroscopy and so on. CILC-RGO showed excellent dispersion stability in water at the concentration of 2.0 mg/mL, which was stable for several months without any precipitate. This may be ascribed to the electrostatic attraction and [Formula: see text]–[Formula: see text] interaction between CILC and graphene.

A DFT analysis for describing the dimeric assemblies of high-valent manganese(v)-oxo meso-tetraphenylporphyrin ([(TPP)MnVO]22+) and meso-tetrakis(pentafluorophenyl)porphyrin ([(TPFPP)MnVO]22+) in the presence of axial N-donor ligands is presented.
