The main experimental works, where dipole polarizabilities of charged pions have been determined, are considered. Possible reasons for the differences between the experimental data are discussed. In particular, it is shown that the account of the [Formula: see text]-meson gives a significant correction to the value of the polarizability obtained in the latest experiment of the COMPASS collaboration. We present also new fit results for the [Formula: see text] reaction.

The new experimental data on various characteristics of the secondary charged pions produced in [Formula: see text]C collisions at 4.2[Formula: see text]GeV/c are presented. A comparative analysis of the average multiplicities and various kinematic characteristics of the charged pions produced in [Formula: see text]C and [Formula: see text]C collisions at 4.2[Formula: see text]GeV/c is made. The experimental data are compared systematically with the predictions of the modified FRITIOF model.

Fluctuations in the ratio of neutral to charged pions arising due to formation of disoriented chiral condensates (DCC) are discussed using the Φ-measure. The properties of the measure for various cases of DCC and non-DCC are discussed. The effect of detector efficiencies and other experimental factors are presented. Application of the Φ-measure to simulated data, within the context of a simple DCC model and to experimental data are also discussed.

We investigate quark to [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] longitudinal spin transfers in the light-cone SU(6) quark sepctator-diquark model and try to analyze the possible origins for the spin transfer difference between them measured by the COMPASS collaboration. The intermediate heavier hyperon decay processes are considered, while the final hadron transverse momentum is also included. We find that after taking into account the asymmetric nucleon [Formula: see text] distribution effect, the results we get are qualitatively comparable with the difference of the COMPASS experimental data.

A rigorous formalism for determining the electric dipole polarizability of a three-hadron bound complex in the case that the system has only one bound (ground) state has been elaborated. On its basis, by applying a model wave function that takes into account specific features of the structure of the three-body nuclei and using the known low-energy experimental data for the p–n, n–d, and Λ–d systems as input data, we have calculated the values of the electric dipole polarizabilities of the triton αE(3 H ) and lambda hypertriton [Formula: see text]. We have obtained for the triton polarizability the value 0.23 fm3. It follows from our study that the polarizability of the lambda hypertriton is close to 3 fm3 exceeding the polarizabilities of the ordinary three-nucleon nuclei by an order of magnitude.

The values of charged pion polarizabilities obtained in the framework of chiral perturbation theory at the level of two-loop accuracy are compared with the experimental result recently reported by COMPASS Collaboration. It is found that calculated value for the dipole polarizabilities [Formula: see text] fits quite well the experimental result [Formula: see text].

AbstractThe aim of the present work is to use one of the machine learning techniques named the genetic programming (GP) to model the p-p interactions through discovering functions. In our study, GP is used to simulate and predict the multiplicity distribution of charged pions (P(n ch)), the average multiplicity (〈n ch〉) and the total cross section (σ tot) at different values of high energies. We have obtained the multiplicity distribution as a function of the center of mass energy ($$ \sqrt s $$) and charged particles (n ch). Also, both the average multiplicity and the total cross section are obtained as a function of $$ \sqrt s $$. Our discovered functions produced by GP technique show a good match to the experimental data. The performance of the GP models was also tested at non-trained data and was found to be in good agreement with the experimental data.

In this work, a detailed computational study on a recently synthetized Mn(I)-dependent complex [(tBuPNNOP)Mn(CO)2]+ is reported. This species promotes the dehydrogenation of formic acid to carbon dioxide and hydrogen. The here proposed catalytic cycle proceeds through the formation of stabilized adduct between [(tBuPNNOPtBu)Mn(CO)2]+ and formate and the progressive release of CO2 and H2, mediated by the presence of trimethylamine. In order to evaluate the influence of the environment on the catalytic activity, different solvents have been taken into account. The computed barriers and the geometrical parameters account well for the available experimental data, confirming the robustness of the complex and reproducing its good catalytic performance. Outcomes from the present investigation can stimulate further experimental works in the design of new more efficient catalysts devoted to H2 production.

Abstract Computational model of high-current pulsed arcdischarge in air is proposed. This is, in general, two-dimensional model with taking into account gas dynamics of the discharge channel, real air thermodynamics in a wide range of pressure and temperature, electrodynamics of the discharge including pinch effect, and radiation. One-dimensional version of the model is tested and verified on several numerical and experimental works reported recently. It is concluded that low and moderate current discharges are satisfactorily described with the developed model. Then, developed model was applied to simulate the electric discharge in air for the currents of 1 - 250 kA and characteristic rise times in 13 - 25 µs, and results of calculations were compared with experimental ones. It was concluded that most of characteristics of the discharge are predicted well. Namely, arc column radius and shock wave position agree well with experimental data for all current amplitudes and rise times considered. Radial distributions of temperature and electron density also satisfactorily agree with experimental data. It was found that pinch effect should be considered for currents higher than 100 kA.
