Yuan Tseh Lee was instrumental in the development and construction of an apparatus that utilized crossed molecular beams, presenting a break-through technique that allowed for the understanding of the dynamics of elementary chemical reactions. This was done by following the trajectories of reactants and reaction products in single collision events, allowing the visualization of the dynamics of how chemical reactions take place. This article also highlights Prof. Lee’s belief in the severity of the consequences of global warming and his concerns relating to the need to substantially reduce carbon emissions.

This paper mainly investigates the perception and knowledge on climate change of the university students in Bangladesh. To carry out this study, primary data are collected from 370 students and uses several statistical methods. Perception and knowledge on the causes, effects and mitigation ways of climate change problems, and perceived duties to combat against climate change are analyzed with descriptive statistics. This paper finds that deforestation is the main cause of global warming and climate change and, the effects of climate change is very serious on people’s health. Majority portion of the students think that it is difficult to combat against climate change problem because it has already been too late to take action. Besides this study also finds that government is crucially responsible for combating against climate change problem. The study calls for government mainly besides industry and youths to aware people about the causes, effects, mitigation ways of climate change so that they can contribute to the sustainable development by mitigating climate change problem.

The sustainable development of mankind is a matter of concern to the whole world. Environmental pollution and haze diffusion have greatly affected the sustainable development of mankind. According to previous research, vehicle exhaust emissions are an important source of environmental pollution and haze diffusion. The sharp increase in the number of cars has also made the supply of energy increasingly tight. In this paper, we have explored the use of intelligent navigation technology based on data analysis to reduce the overall carbon emissions of vehicles on road networks. We have implemented a traffic flow prediction method using a genetic algorithm and particle-swarm-optimization-enhanced support vector regression, constructed a model for predicting vehicle exhaust emissions based on predicted road conditions and vehicle fuel consumption, and built our low-carbon-emission-oriented navigation algorithm based on a spatially optimized dynamic path planning algorithm. The results show that our method could help to significantly reduce the overall carbon emissions of vehicles on the road network, which means that our method could contribute to the construction of low-carbon-emission intelligent transportation systems and smart cities.

The author treats the concept of sustainable development as an ideology in which ecological assumptions have replaced economic assumptions, and humanity is still considered a means of action, not an end. The author illustrates the meaning of this ideology by showing its history from the report of the Club of Rome from 1972, through subsequent reports of this club and its head Lester R. Brown, up to UN reports entitled Agenda 2021 and Agenda 2030. The author analyses this latter document and the guidelines contained in it based on the assumption that the population of the Earth should be limited, also mechanically, at the expense of the death of unborn children, rather than by a more even distribution of goods, which would decrease the population growth in a natural way. According to the author, these assumptions can be seen in the approach of the signatories of these documents to the issue of the overpopulation of the Earth and in their uncritical support for the controversial theory of anthropogenic global warming. Many objectives of these agendas include slogans that sound extremely noble, but are practically impossible to achieve or their  implementation would limit the freedom of farming and civil liberties in general.

Abstract Young chemists play an important role in the transformation of the chemical sector in the next couple of years. They will have to do the heavy lifting and find the solutions needed for a sustainable tomorrow. Therefore, it is important to give them a voice in what their expectations are, how they believe they should be educated and prepared, and what opportunities they see for implementation levels in different areas to promote sustainable development. To shed light on these often under-represented opinions, young chemists across the globe were asked to express their views on the role and responsibilities of the chemical sector anonymously. The result is a snapshot of how young chemists perceive the future of chemistry and the immediate actions that need to be taken to get there. Throughout all answers, their hopes are expressed that the chemical sector will realize its great role and responsibility in leading and promoting sustainable development, thus limiting global warming, through cooperation with authorities, other sectors, and civil society. In this regard, young chemists do have numerous specific ideas about appropriate measures and are eager to take part in shaping a sustainable future.

Climate change and the global warming have become an important issue at the present. Some of previous research showed the importance of studies on the sources of global warming and carbon emissions. Our attention needs to be paid to carbon monitoring worldwide. Therefore, the information about the distribution and the characteristic of carbon stocks has become very strategic matter particularly for sustainable development. This paper aims to analyze the utilization of Geospatial Information of Carbon Stocks (GICS) for forestry management, environmental protection, and spatial planning with the case study in Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia. The method was descriptive analytic to compose several regulations related to geospatial data and information and their connetion to forestry management in Indonesia, environmental protection, and spatial planning. The results of the analysis showed that the principle of sustainable development must be supported by accurate data and information in accordance with the objectives of sustainable development. For the sustainable development, the GICS is functioning in the Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) and Low-Emission Development Strategy (LEDS).

The COVID-19 pandemic is an ecosocial and global crisis caused by human actions. With the pandemic, poverty and inequalities have gradually deepened; in particular, the acceleration of digitalization in the pandemic period has revealed digital inequalities. In addition, problems such as poverty, climate change, global warming, and social and environmental sustainability concerns constitute obstacles to achieving sustainable development goals. Social workers play an active role in the achievement of sustainable development goals; as such, they should also be able to critically evaluate the associated processes and results. In such an evaluation, it is important that social workers adopt an ecosocial approach that centers on people and nature. Based on this, in this study, sustainable development and related goals are evaluated from a critical point of view, discussing them in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result of this analysis, the degrowth approach is recommended as an alternative to sustainable development.
