Flaky layered double hydroxide (FLDH) was prepared by the reconstruction of its oxide in alkali solution. The composites with FLDH/Ag3PO4mass ratios at 1.6 : 1 and 3 : 1 were fabricated by the coprecipitation method. The powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction, field-emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscope, and UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. The results indicated that the well-distributed Ag3PO4in a fine crystallite size was formed on the surface of FLDH. The photocatalytic activities of the Ag3PO4immobilized on FLDH were significantly enhanced for the degradation of acid red G under visible light irradiation compared to bare Ag3PO4. The composite with the FLDH/Ag3PO4mass ratio of 3 : 1 showed a higher photocatalytic efficiency.

A visible-light-driven CeVO4/TiO2 photocatalyst with nanostructured heterojunction has been successfully prepared by a simple coupled method. The catalyst was characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS) and spin-trapping electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR). The visible light-induced photocatalytic activities were evaluated by decomposing benzene in gas phase. The result showed that the prepared catalyst exhibited efficient photocatalytic activities with high photochemical stability under visible light irradiation.

Porous LaFeO3 were synthesised by nanocasting method using mesoporous silica (SBA-15) as a hard template and used as a visible-light-driven photocatalyst. The as-synthesised LaFeO3 photocatalyst were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), N2 adsorption-desorption, and Ultraviolet–Visible Diffuse Reflectance Spectroscopy (UV-vis DRS). The photo-Fenton catalytic activities of porous LaFeO3 were investigated for the degradation of oily-containing wastewater. The results showed that porous LaFeO3 had better photo-Fenton catalytic activity under visilbe light irradiation than pure LaFeO3. The remarkable improvement photo-Fenton catalytic activity of porous LaFeO3 material could be attributed to the synergistic effect of adsorption and visible light photo-Fenton processes thanks to its porous structure.

In this work, we developed a simple hydrothermal method toward the fabrication of TiO2/Bi[Formula: see text]Mo[Formula: see text]O[Formula: see text] heterostructure, which had superior photocatalytic performance for degrading of RhB under visible light irradiation. The as-prepared samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS) and photoelectrochemical measurements. The optimal composite with 15[Formula: see text]wt.% TiO2/Bi[Formula: see text]Mo[Formula: see text]O[Formula: see text] (TBMO3) exhibits a much higher photocatalytic activity than that of Bi[Formula: see text]Mo[Formula: see text]O[Formula: see text] and P25 by degradation of RhB under visible light irradiation within 20[Formula: see text]min. The enhanced performance of TBMO3 is predominantly attributed to the synergistic effect both in the higher surface area and the improved separation of photogenerated charge carriers between the two semiconductors. Recycling experiments indicated that TiO2/Bi[Formula: see text]Mo[Formula: see text]O[Formula: see text] photocatalysts had excellent cycle performance and stability. The photocatalytic mechanism of nanocomposite photocatalysts was proposed, which is confirmed by the active species trapping experiments and photoluminescence tests.

This communication reports a pioneering study on the synthesis of BiVO4 and photocatalytic reduction of Cr(VI)-polluted wastewaters. Monoclinic phase BiVO4 micron-crystals with adjustable morphology were synthesized via a solid-phase route. The structures, morphology, optical properties of the BiVO4 micron-crystals were characterized by X-ray diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy, UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectra, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy spectra, and photocurrent measurements. Besides, their photocatalytic properties were tested for the reduction of aqueous Cr(VI) under visible light (l > 420 nm) irradiation. The photocatalytic tests showed that the photocatalytic activities of BiVO4 powders in aqueous Cr(VI) depended on the dark adsorption amount for Cr(VI) and number of photogenerated carriers. BiVO4-(c) exhibited the highest photocatalytic reduction efficiency that attributed to highest separation and transfer efficiency of photogenerated electrons and holes. Besides, effects of photocatalytic experiment parameters (including dosage of photocatalyst and coexistent anions and cations) on the Cr(VI) removal rate by BiVO4-(c) were also investigated, and •OH play an important role in the BiVO4 photocatalytic reduction Cr(VI). A highly efficient γ-Bi2MoO6 photocatalyst was synthesized by a solvethermal method with the assistance of urea. The structure, morphology and photophysical properties of the Bi2MoO6 were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope, UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy and nitrogen adsorption-desorption techniques. The photocatalytic efficiencies were evaluated by the degradation of rhodamine B (RhB) under visible-light irradiation, and the γ-Bi2MoO6 structures displayed significantly higher visible-light-driven photocatalytic activity in comparison to TiO2 nanoparticles.

The iodine-doped Bi2WO6(I-BWO) photocatalyst was prepared via a hydrothermal method using potassium iodide as the source of iodine. The samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and selected area electron diffraction (SAED), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS), and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. The photocatalytic activity of I-BWO for the degradation of rhodamine B (RhB) was higher than that of pure BWO and I2-BWO regardless of visible light (>420 nm) or ultraviolet light (<400 nm) irradiation. The results of DRS analysis showed that the I-BWO and I2-BWO catalysts had narrower band gaps. XPS analysis proved that the multivalent iodine species including I0and were coadsorbed on the defect surface of Bi2WO6in I-BWO. The enhanced PL intensity revealed that a large number of defects of oxygen vacancies were formed by the doping of iodine. The enhanced photocatalytic activity of I-BWO for degradation of RhB was caused by the synergetic effect of a small crystalline size, a narrow band gap, and plenty of oxygen vacancies.

A series of TiO2, TiO2/Pd, and TiO2/PdO hollow sphere photocatalysts was successfully prepared via a combination of hydrothermal, sol-immobilization, and calcination methods. The structure and optical properties of the as-prepared samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, Brunauer-Emmett-Telleranalysis, Barrett-Joyner-Halenda measurement, and UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. The photocatalysis efficiencies of all samples were evaluated through the photocatalytic degradation of rhodamine B under visible light irradiation. Results indicated that TiO2/PdO demonstrated a higher photocatalytic activity (the photocatalytic degradation efficiency could reach up to 100% within 40 min) than the other samples and could maintain a stable photocatalytic degradation efficiency for at least four cycles. Finally, after using different scavengers, superoxide and hydroxyl radicals were identified as the primary active species for the effectiveness of the TiO2/PdO photocatalyst.

Abstract Bismuth oxyhalides (BiOXs, X = Cl, Br and I) are emerging photocatalytic materials with unique layered structure, flexible band structure and superior photocatalytic activity. The purpose of this study was to develop a facile alcoholysis route to prepare BiOClxI1−x nanosheet solid solutions at room temperature. X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-vis DRS), photoluminescence emission spectroscopy (PL) and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) surface area analyzer were used to characterize the as-prepared photocatalysts. These results revealed that two-dimension BiOClxI1−x nanosheet solid solutions could be obtained with high percentage of {001} crystal facets exposed. Moreover, the formation of solid solution could regularly change the optical absorption thresholds and band gaps of BiOClxI1−x photocatalysts. The photocatalytic experiments indicated that BiOCl0.75I0.25 exhibited the highest photocatalytic performance for the degradation of Rhodamine B (RhB) under simulated sunlight irradiation and the photocatalytic process followed a pseudo-first-order kinetic equation. A possible mechanism of RhB photodegradation over BiOClxI1−x solid solutions was proposed based on the structural properties of BiOClxI1−x solid solutions and RhB photosensitization.

Fe-doped TiO2nanotubes (Fe-TNTs) have been prepared by ultrasonic-assisted hydrothermal method. The structure and composition of the as-prepared TiO2nanotubes were characterized by transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and UV-Visible absorption spectroscopy. Their photocatalytic activities were evaluated by the degradation of MO under visible light. The UV-visible absorption spectra of the Fe-TNT showed a red shift and an enhancement of the absorption in the visible region compared to the pure TNT. The Fe-TNTs were provided with good photocatalytic activities and photostability and under visible light irradiation, and the optimum molar ratio of Ti : Fe was found to be 100 : 1 in our experiments.

High efficiency BiOBr/GO composites photocatalyst were successfully synthesized via a facile precipitation method. The precursors were prepared by dissolving Bi (NO3)3.5H2O and KBr in glycerol and distilled water, respectively. Various amounts (0.1-2 wt%) of graphene oxide were added into the mixed solution precursors, and stirred at room temperature to get precipitated powder without further heat treatment. The obtained products were characterized for phase, morphology, optical properties and surface area by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), filed-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), UV-Vis diffuse reflection spectroscopy (DRS) and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET), respectively. The morphology and structure of as-synthesized samples were composed of numerous fine plates of BiOBr dispersed on the GO sheets. The photocatalytic activities of BiOBr/GO composites were evaluated by rhodamine B degradation under visible light irradiation. As the results, the significant increase in photodegradation of BiOBr/GO composite comparing with pure BiOBr was observed. Among all samples, the composite with 1 wt% of graphene oxide showed the highest photocatalytic performance.
