X-section cast-in-place (referred to as XCC) pile, which is one of new pile types developed by Hohai University, is widely used for pile foundation and pile-supported embankment over soft ground in China. However, little research has been carried out on this new type pile, especially the surrounding soil disturbance under XCC pile installation. This paper presents an analytical solution for estimating the horizontal stress and displacement of surrounding soil of XCC pile after XCC pile installation. The reliability and accuracy of the present solution are verified by comparing them with the field test results. Then, parametric studies, such as outsourcing diameter(a), open arc distance(b), open arc angle(θ), the undrained strength(Su), the limit pile cavity pressure(Plim), and the radius of the plastic zone(Rp), are discussed for the practice engineering design. The results show that the stress and displacement distributions of surrounding soil calculated by this paper are in agreement with field test results.

An analytical model is presented for solving the longitudinal complex impedance of a large-diameter floating pile in viscoelastic surrounding soil with radial heterogeneity and viscous-type damping, taking the effect of three-dimensional wave propagation of soil and lateral inertia of the pile shaft into account. The corresponding analytical solution for longitudinal impedance is also derived and validated via comparisons with existing solutions. The influences of the pile length, Poisson’s ratio of the pile shaft and the viscous damping coefficient, as well as the degree and radius of disturbed surrounding soil, on the longitudinal impedance of the pile shaft are examined by performing parametric analyses. It is demonstrated that the proposed analytical model and solution are suitable for the longitudinal vibration problem of a large-diameter pile and radially inhomogeneous surrounding soil, especially when the pile slenderness is low. In addition, the present solution can be easily degenerated to describe the longitudinal vibration problem relating to a large-diameter floating pile in radially homogenous soil or a pile with fixed-end supports.

The increase of axle load and train speed would cause intense wheelrail interactions, and lead to potential vibration related problems in train operation. For the low-frequency vibration reduction of a track system, a multi-layer track structure was proposed and analyzed theoretically and experimentally. Firstly, the analytical solution was derived theoretically, and followed by a parametric analysis to verify the vibration reduction performance. Then, a finite element simulation is carried out to highlight the influence of the tuned slab damper. Finally, the vibration and noise tests are performed to verify the results of the analytical solution and finite element simulation. As the finite element simulation indicates, after installation of the tuned slab damper, the peak reaction force of the foundation can be reduced by 60%, and the peak value of the vertical vibration acceleration would decrease by 50%. The vibration test results show that the insertion losses for the total vibration levels are 13.3 dB in the vertical direction and 21.7 dB in the transverse direction. The noise test results show that the data of each measurement point is smoother and smaller, and the noise in the generating position and propagation path can be reduced by 1.9 dB–5.5 dB.

An analytical solution has been developed to estimate the inclined pullout capacity of an embedded suction anchor in clay seafloor. Validation has been made through comparisons with a limited number of centrifuge model test results. Results indicate that the inclined pullout capacity of an embedded suction anchor in clay decreases as the load inclination angle to the horizontal increases. As the point of the load application moves downward, the inclined pullout capacity increases, reaches its peak, and then starts to decrease.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate outdoor PM2.5 infiltration into multifamily homes according to the building characteristics using regression models. Field test results from 23 multifamily homes were analyzed to investigate the infiltration factor and building characteristics including floor area, volume, outer surface area, building age, and airtightness. Correlation and regression analysis were then conducted to identify the building factor that is most strongly associated with the infiltration of outdoor PM2.5. The field tests revealed that the average PM2.5 infiltration factor was 0.71 (±0.19). The correlation analysis of the building characteristics and PM2.5 infiltration factor revealed that building airtightness metrics (ACH50, ELA/FA, and NL) had a statistically significant (p < 0.05) positive correlation (r = 0.70, 0.69, and 0.68, respectively) with the infiltration factor. Following the correlation analysis, a regression model for predicting PM2.5 infiltration based on the ACH50 airtightness index was proposed. The study confirmed that the outdoor-origin PM2.5 concentration in highly leaky units could be up to 1.59 times higher than that in airtight units.

<p>In order to solve the construction problem of perforating rebars’ precise location and it’s getting through the circular holes for the the conventional perfobond connector, a new type of perfobond connector with boot shaped slots was proposed. This new type perfobond connector has the advantage of convenient construction and pricise location. Three groups of push-out tests with nine specimens were carried out to study the shear capacity of the new type perfobond connector. The effect of the number and the spacing of boot shaped slots on failure modes, shear capacity, peak slip and shear stiffness were mainly studied. The test results show that the new type of perfobond connector with boot shaped slots has a high shear capacity and a good ductility, it could be widely applied on the connection between the steel and the concrete structures.</p>
