Social Recommender Systems (SRS) have attracted considerable attention since its accompanying service, social networks, helps increase user satisfaction and provides auxiliary information to improve recommendations. However, most existing SRS focus on social influence and ignore another essential social phenomenon, i.e., social homophily. Social homophily, which is the premise of social influence, indicates that people tend to build social relations with similar people and form influence propagation paths. In this article, we propose a generic framework Social PathExplorer (SPEX) to enhance neural SRS. SPEX treats the neural recommendation model as a black box and improves the quality of recommendations by modeling the social recommendation task, the formation of social homophily, and their mutual effect in the manner of multi-task learning. We design a Graph Neural Network based component for influence propagation path prediction to help SPEX capture the rich information conveyed by the formation of social homophily. We further propose an uncertainty based task balancing method to set appropriate task weights for the recommendation task and the path prediction task during the joint optimization. Extensive experiments have validated that SPEX can be easily plugged into various state-of-the-art neural recommendation models and help improve their performance. The source code of our work is available at: https://github.com/XMUDM/SPEX.

Abstract Perforation azimuth has an important influence on the nucleation, propagation path and morphology of hydraulic fractures. In this paper, the true triaxial hydraulic fracturing simulation experimental system is used to analyze the hydraulic fracture morphology and propagation path under different perforation azimuth angles. With the increase of the azimuth angle of perforation, the stable fracture propagation pressure of the fracturing sample also increases. When the azimuth angle of perforation is 0°, the propagation pressure is about 18 MPa, and when the azimuth angle of perforation is 90°, the propagation pressure is about 26.5 MPa, increasing by nearly 47.22%.

<p>Millimetre wave (mm-wave) spectrum (30-300GHz) is a key enabling technology in the advent of 5G. However, an accurate model for the mm-wave channel is yet to be developed as the existing 4G-LTE channel models (frequency below 6 GHz) exhibit different propagation attributes. In this paper, a spatial statistical channel model (SSCM) is considered that estimates the characteristics of the channel in the 28, 60, and 73 GHz bands. The SSCM is used to mathematically approximate the propagation path loss in different environments, namely, Urban-Macro, Urban-Micro, and Rural-Macro, under Line-of-Sight (LOS) and Non-Line-of-Sight (NLOS) conditions. The New York University (NYU) channel simulator is utilised to evaluate the channel model under various conditions including atmospheric effects, distance, and frequency. Moreover, a MIMO system has been evaluated under mm-wave propagation. The main results show that the 60 GHz band has the highest attenuation compared to the 28 and 73 GHz bands. The results also show that increasing the number of antennas is proportional to the condition number and the rank of the MIMO channel matrix.</p>

This paper presents a novel energy flow redistribution methodology to achieve optimal operation of heat exchanger networks (HENs). The proposed method aims to manipulate the propagation path of a disturbance through the network to reduce its impact on utility consumption. Specifically, an optimization problem is formulated to generate new duty targets for heat exchangers of the network when a disturbance is encountered. Subsequently, a feedback control system is designed to track these targets by manipulating bypasses around the process heat exchangers. The effectiveness of the proposed framework is illustrated with the help of three benchmark examples. The proposed approach can handle disturbances in inlet as well as target temperature, inlet flow and heat transfer coefficient of individual heat exchangers.

ABSTRACT Local seismic response (LSR) studies are considerably conditioned by the seismic input features due to the nonlinear soil behavior under dynamic loading and the subsurface site conditions (e.g., mechanical properties of soils and rocks and geological setting). The selection of the most suitable seismic input is a key point in LSR. Unfortunately, few recordings data are available at seismic stations in near-field areas. Then, synthetic accelerograms can be helpful in LSR analysis in urbanized near-field territories. Synthetic accelerograms are generated by simulation procedures that consider adequately supported hypotheses about the source mechanism at the seismotectonic region and the wave propagation path toward the surface. Hereafter, mainshocks recorded accelerograms at near-field seismic stations during the 2016–2017 Central Italy seismic sequence have been compared with synthetic accelerograms calculated by an extended finite-fault ground-motion simulation algorithm code. The outcomes show that synthetic seismograms can reproduce the high-frequency content of seismic waves at near-field areas. Then, in urbanized near-field areas, synthetic accelerograms can be fruitfully used in microzonation studies.

The complex fracture network formed by volume fracturing of shale gas reservoir is very important to the effect of reservoir reconstruction. The existence of bedding interface will change the propagation path of the hydraulic fracture in the vertical direction and affect the reservoir reconstruction range in the height direction. The three-point bending test is used to test and study the mechanical parameters and fracture propagation path of natural outcrop shale core. On this basis, a two-dimensional numerical model of hydraulic fracture interlayer propagation is established based on the cohesive element. Considering the fluid-solid coupling in the process of hydraulic fracturing, the vertical propagation path of hydraulic fracture under different reservoir properties and construction parameters is simulated. According to the results, the strength of the bedding interface is the weakest, the crack propagation resistance along the bedding interface is the smallest, and the crack propagation path is straight. When the crack does not propagate along the bedding interface, the fracture propagation resistance is large, and the fracture appears as an arc propagation path or deflection. The difference between vertical stress and minimum horizontal stress difference, interlayer stress difference and interface stiffness will have a significant impact on the propagation path of vertical fractures. Large injection rate and high viscosity fluid injection are helpful for vertical fractures to pass through the bedding interface, and low viscosity fracturing fluid is helpful to open the bedding interface. This research work is helpful to better understand the characteristics of bedding shale and the interlayer propagation law of vertical fractures, and to form the stimulation strategy of shale gas reservoir.

This paper presents a new SIMO radar system based on a harmonic radar (HR) stepped frequency continuous wave (SFCW) architecture. Simple tags that can be electronically individually activated and deactivated via a DC control voltage were developed and combined to form an MO array field. This HR operates in the entire 2.45 GHz ISM band for transmitting the illumination signal and receives at twice the stimulus frequency and bandwidth centered around 4.9 GHz. This paper presents the development, the basic theory of a HR system for the characterization of objects placed into the propagation path in-between the radar and the reflectors (similar to a free-space measurement with a network analyzer) as well as first measurements performed by the system. Further detailed measurement series will be made available later on to other researchers to develop AI and machine learning based signal processing routines or synthetic aperture radar algorithms for imaging, object recognition, and feature extraction. For this purpose, the necessary information is published in this paper. It is explained in detail why this SIMO-HR can be an attractive solution augmenting or replacing existing systems for radar measurements in production technology for material under test measurements and as a simplified MIMO system. The novel HR transfer function, which is a basis for researchers and developers for material characterization or imaging algorithms, is introduced and metrologically verified in a well traceable coaxial setup.

The communication requirement for integrating Distributed Renewable Generation (DRG) into Smart Grid (SG) is not strict, where the reliability and critical demand of data delivery are compromised due to the low-data rate and power of ZigBee. However, the presence of various dielectric constant materials in the DRG can cause transmission impairments of the electromagnetic wave. In this paper, we have analysed the performance of the ZigBeePRO network by applying the shortest path algorithm while delivering energy data from the solar DRG to the SG. The DRG architecture is created by considering a real test-bed of 35 kW solar DRG at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). The numbers of nodes are calculated from specifications of the ZigBeePRO enabled Waspmote embedded board, inverters, and electrical parameters of a Photovoltaic (PV) module. The results of the obtained propagation path loss model indicate that the Transverse Electric (TE) and Transverse Magnetic (TM) polarizations are proportional to the loss of the propagation path at different incident angles (α); however, an exception is observed for the TM polarization at α = 55 o. Due to this polarization effect, the brick-built type cabin at the DRG site is a consequence of a higher propagation path loss than the Iron (III)-made cabin. The other performance parameters, including network throughput, data loss, and ZigBeePRO collision, are also evaluated.

A surface acoustic wave (SAW) device is proposed for sensing current by employing the patterned FeGa thin film as the sensitive interface. The layered media structure of FeGa/SiO2/LiNbO3 was established to reveal the working principle of the sensors, and an SAW chip patterned by delay-line and operating at 150 MHz was fabricated photolithographically on 128° YX LiNbO3 substrate. The FeGa thin film with a larger magnetostrictive coefficient was sputtered onto the acoustic propagation path of the SAW chip to build the sensing device. The prepared device was connected into the differential oscillation loop to construct the current sensor. The FeGa thin film produces magnetostrictive strain and so-called ΔE effect at the magnetic field generated by the applied current, which modulates the SAW propagation velocity accordingly. The differential frequency signal was collected to characterize the measurand. Larger sensitivity of 37.9 kHz/A, low hysteresis error of 0.81%, excellent repeatability and stability were achieved in the experiments from the developed sensing device.
