Intersection traffic lights are a basic means of ensuring the normal operation of road traffic. A good signal timing scheme is essential for improving traffic congestion. To obtain the signal timing scheme of the designated intersection, the method proposed in this article is based on a modified Webster function. The method uses the signal cycle and proportion of green light duration as independent variables to establish the corresponding intersection vehicle delay function. This function is converted from a multiobjective optimization to a single-objective optimization formulation; a modified genetic algorithm is then used to find the optimal solution to this function. The experimental results show that the timing scheme optimized by the improved genetic algorithm can reduce the intersection delay by nearly 15.64%. The proposed traffic signal timing based on the modified Webster function will be of value as an important reference for the optimization of traffic lights at urban intersections.

In this paper, we present a new scheme to intelligently control the cycles and phases of traffic lights by exploiting the road traffic data collected by a wireless sensor network installed on the road. The traffic light controller determines the next phase of traffic lights by applying the Ant Colony Optimazation metaheuristics to the information collected by WSN. The objective of this system is to find an optimal solution that gives the best possible results in terms of reducing the waiting time of vehicles and maximizing the flow crossing the intersection during the green light. The results of simulations by the SUMO traffic simulator confirm the preference of the developed algorithm over the predefined time controller and other dynamic controllers.

The number of vehicles on the roads of Almaty, Kazakhstan is growing from year to year. This brings about an increasing intensity and density of traffic flows in the streets which leads to congestion, decreasing speed of the traffic flow, increasing environmental pollution caused by car emissions, and which can potentially lead to the road traffic accidents (RTA), including fatalities. While the number of injuries grows up mainly due to drivers’ non-compliance with the speed limit, the environmental pollution is caused by longer traffic jams. Therefore, to reduce the level of road traffic injuries and emissions into the environment it is necessary to ensure the uniform movement of traffic flows in cities. Currently, one of the effective ways to do it is the use of transport telematics systems, in particular, control systems for road signs, road boards and traffic lights. The paper presents an analysis of existing systems and methods of traffic light regulation. The  analyses of the systems and methods are based on the use of homogeneous data, that is the data on standard parameters of traffic flows. The need in collecting and analyzing additional semi-structured data on the factors that have a significant impact on the traffic flows parameters in cities is shown as well. The work is dedicated to solving the problem of analysis and forecast of traffic flows in the city of Almaty, Kazakhstan. GPS data on the location of individual vehicles is used as the initial data for solving this problem. By projecting the obtained information onto the graph of the city's transport network, as well as using additional filtering, it is possible to obtain an estimate of individual parameters of traffic flows. These parameters are used for short-term forecast of the changes in the city's transport network.

Yogyakarta has increasing trends in the number of vehicles and consequently intensifying the traffic volume and will effect to higher emission and air pollution. Traffic lights duration plays a vital role in congestion mitigation in the critical intersections of urban areas. This study has objective to minimize the number of vehicles waiting in line by developing the hybrid simulation method. First of all, the MKJI and Webster method were calculated to determine the green traffic light. Then, the simulation model was developed to evaluate the number of vehicles waiting in line according to different duration of green traffic lights from MKJI and Webster method. A case study will then be provided in Pelemgurih intersection located in Yogyakarta, Indonesia for demonstrating the applicability of the developed method. The result shows that the duration of green traffic lights calculated by Webster method provides lower number of vehicles waiting in line. It is due to the short duration of green traffic light resulted by Webster method so that the traffic light cycle becomes shorter and it effects the number of vehicles waiting in line which is lower than MKJI method. The results obtained can help the generating desired decision alternatives that will important for Department of Transportation, Indonesia to enhance the road traffic management with low number of vehicles waiting in line.

A prototype filter design for FBMC/OQAM systems is proposed in this study. The influence of both the channel estimation and the stop-band energy is taken into account in this method. An efficient preamble structure is proposed to improve the performance of channel estimation and save the frequency spectral efficiency. The reciprocal of the signal-to-interference plus noise ratio (RSINR) is derived to measure the influence of the prototype filter on channel estimation. After that, the process of prototype filter design is formulated as an optimization problem with constraint on the RSINR. To accelerate the convergence and obtain global optimal solution, an improved genetic algorithm is proposed. Especially, the History Network and pruning operator are adopted in this improved genetic algorithm. Simulation results demonstrate the validity and efficiency of the prototype filter designed in this study.

An improved genetic algorithm was proposed, which consist of a new method of initial population and partheno genetic algorithm revolution operation.Exploited Computer Aided Platform and Validated VRP by simulation software. Compared this improved genetic algorithm with the existing genetic algorithm and approximation algorithms through an example, convergence rate Much faster and the Optimal results from 117.0km Reduced to 107.8km,proved that this article improved genetic algorithm can be faster to reach an optimal solution. The results showed that the improved GA can keep the variety of cross and accelerate the search speed.

This paper focuses on the discrete robustness optimization of emergency transportation network with the consideration of timeliness and decision behavior of decision-maker under the limited rationality. Based on a situation that the nearer to disaster area, the higher probability of time delay, prospect theory is specially introduced to reflect the subjective decision behavior of decision-maker. Then, a discrete robustness optimization model is proposed with the purpose of the better timeliness and robustness. The model is based on the emergency transportation network with multistorage centers and multidisaster points. In order to obtain the optimal solution, an improved genetic algorithm is designed by introducing a bidirectional search strategy based on a newfangled path cluster to obtain specific paths that connect each storage centers and each disaster points. Finally, a case study is exhibited to demonstrate the reasonability of the model, theory, and algorithm. The result shows that the path cluster with the better timeliness and robustness can be well obtained by using the prospect theory and improved genetic algorithm. The analysis especially reveals that the robustness is correspondent to the risk aversion in prospect theory.

Abstract The dynamic management of traffic light cycles is a really interesting research issue considering modern technologies, which can be used in order to optimise road junctions and then improve living conditions of the roads. Wireless sensor networks represent the most suitable technology, as they are easy to deploy and manage. The data relating to road traffic flows can be detected by the sensor network and then processed through the innovative approach, proposed in this work, in order to determine the right green times at traffic lights. Although wireless sensor networks are characterized by very low consumption devices, the continuous information transmission reduces the life cycle of the whole network. To this end, the proposed architecture provides a technique to power the sensor nodes based on piezoelectric materials, which allow producing potential energy taking advantage of the vibration produced by the passage of vehicles on the road.
