Objective. Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) is a relatively common spinal rotation deformity, and the pathogenesis of AIS is accompanied by metabolic dysfunction and changes in biochemical factors. In this study, plasma metabolite changes in AIS patients were analyzed based on nontargeted metabolomics to provide new insights for clarifying functional metabolic abnormalities in AIS patients. Methods. Clinical indexes and blood samples were collected from 12 healthy subjects and 16 AIS patients. Metabolomics was used to analyze the changes in metabolites in plasma samples. The correlation between plasma metabolites and clinical indexes was analyzed by the Spearman rank correlation coefficient. Results. Analysis of clinical data showed that the body weight, body mass index (BMI), and bone mineral density (BMD) index of the AIS group significantly decreased, while the blood phosphorus and Cobb angles increased significantly. Metabolomic analysis showed significant changes in 72 differential metabolites in the plasma of the AIS group, mainly including organooxygen compounds, carboxylic acids and derivatives, fatty acyls, steroids and steroid derivatives, and keto acids and derivatives. The Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway showed that arginine biosynthesis, D-glutamine and D-glutamate metabolism, alanine, aspartate and glutamate metabolism, and citrate cycle (TCA cycle) were significantly enriched in the AIS and healthy groups. Spearman rank correlation coefficient analysis showed that the plasma metabolites C00026 (oxoglutarate), C00062 (L-arginine, arginine), C01042 (N-acetylaspartate), and C00158 (citrate) were significantly correlated with clinical indexes in AIS patients. In the healthy group, the plasma metabolites C00122 (fumarate), C00025 (glutamate and L-glutamic acid) and C00149 (malate, L-malic acid) were significantly correlated with clinical indexes, while C00624 (N-acetylglutamate) was not significantly correlated with the clinical indexes. Conclusion. The occurrence of AIS led to changes in clinical indexes and plasma metabolites. Plasma biomarkers and functional metabolic pathways were correlated with clinical indexes, which might provide new insights for the diagnosis and treatment of AIS.

Abstract Background Non-invasive estimation of the cardiac iron concentration (CIC) by T2* cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) has been validated repeatedly and is in widespread clinical use. However, calibration data are limited, and mostly from post-mortem studies. In the present study, we performed an in vivo calibration in a dextran-iron loaded minipig model. Methods R2* (= 1/T2*) was assessed in vivo by 1.5 T CMR in the cardiac septum. Chemical CIC was assessed by inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectroscopy in endomyocardial catheter biopsies (EMBs) from cardiac septum taken during follow up of 11 minipigs on dextran-iron loading, and also in full-wall biopsies from cardiac septum, taken post-mortem in another 16  minipigs, after completed iron loading. Results A strong correlation could be demonstrated between chemical CIC in 55 EMBs and parallel cardiac T2* (Spearman rank correlation coefficient 0.72, P < 0.001). Regression analysis led to [CIC] = (R2* − 17.16)/41.12 for the calibration equation with CIC in mg/g dry weight and R2* in Hz. An even stronger correlation was found, when chemical CIC was measured by full-wall biopsies from cardiac septum, taken immediately after euthanasia, in connection with the last CMR session after finished iron loading (Spearman rank correlation coefficient 0.95 (P < 0.001). Regression analysis led to the calibration equation [CIC] = (R2* − 17.2)/31.8. Conclusions Calibration of cardiac T2* by EMBs is possible in the minipig model but is less accurate than by full-wall biopsies. Likely explanations are sampling error, variable content of non-iron containing tissue and smaller biopsies, when using catheter biopsies. The results further validate the CMR T2* technique for estimation of cardiac iron in conditions with iron overload and add to the limited calibration data published earlier.

This research was designed to study the relationship between interactional justice and employees’ commitment to supervisor in Nigerian health sector. A self-administered survey questionnaire was sent out to a sample size of 103 employees, resulting in 99 responses out of which 13 copies of the questionnaire were not statistically usable. The Spearman rank correlation coefficient was used for data analysis, and our findings reveal that employees who have received fair informational and interpersonal treatments commit themselves to their supervisors. We discovered that the degree of influence exerted by interpersonal justice on employees’ commitment to supervisor was stronger than that of informational justice. We concluded that employees attach themselves to supervisors that are fair in communication and relationship. The fairness of interaction and communication boost employees’ confidence, impacting positively on employees’ commitment to supervisor and making employees see themselves as part owners in the organization. We, therefore, recommended that organizational managers or supervisors should communicate and relate properly with employees, in order to satisfy their customers and other stakeholders.

Caricature-plant cultivation is often damaged due to the attack of Doleschallia bisaltide larvae. High reproduction ability of D. bisaltide is a serious problem that need to be managed, therefore it will not inflict a financial losses. This study was aimed to determine the fluctuation of D. bisaltide larval population in the caricature-plant plantation in Kalisoro, Tawangmangu. The observations were carried out with a survey method on five observation plots for seven months from March to September 2018. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and the Spearman rank correlation coefficient test. The results showed that the population structure was changed during the observations with the highest larval population in May. The results of Spearman rank correlation coefficient test showed significant and positive correlation between third, fourth, and fifth instars larvae with the rainfall. The control of D. bisaltide can not only depend on the presence of natural enemies, therefore control interventions were needed especially at a suitable time and environment whne the population increased.

The issue of teaching physical education in secondary schools has already received wide coverage in various scientific studies. Until recently, insufficient attention has been paid to the topic of studying the motives of physical culture and sports, including attending lessons on "Physical culture". The purpose of the article is to study the perceptions of the residents of territorial communities about the motives of schoolchildren's participation in "Physical Culture" lessons. Organization of the study. The study was conducted in 8 territorial communities of Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhia and Kharkiv regions. Respondents numbering 1,089 people (674 students and 415 adults) were involved. Peculiarities of adults 'and high school students' ideas about the motives of schoolchildren's participation in "Physical Culture" lessons were studied with the help of specially prepared questions. The calculation of the correlation between the representations of adults and students was performed using the Spearman rank correlation coefficient ρ. Result. Significant differences in the perceptions of the respondents regarding the motives of participation of schoolchildren of different communities in the lessons on "Physical Culture" are proved. At the same time, the calculation of the correlation between the perceptions of adults and students by the coefficient of rank correlation ρ Spearman in the Cirkunov community has an index of 0,2, which indicates a weak positive relationship between the perceptions of adults and students. Whereas in the Stepnogorsk community this indicator is 0,93, which indicates a strong positive relationship between the perceptions of adults and students.

This study focused on assessing the effectiveness of innovation management in the hospitality industry. The inability of the change managers of these hotels to meet their expected organizational goals even as they strive to inject something new to meet the ever-rising demand of their clients made this study so essential. To achieve this objective, both primary and secondary data were employed. From a given population of 966, a sample size of 283 was derived using the Taro Yamane’s formula. A survey research design was also employed, and the study proved to be valid and reliable given a content validity and a Cronbach alpha of 0.863. The techniques adopted in analyzing the data were both the descriptive and inferential statistics. Spearman Rank Correlation Coefficient was used in testing the hypotheses. The result of the findings reveals that there is a significant association between the extent of innovation at a given period and the performance of the firms; innovation management does significantly correlate to the growth of the firms. Based on these findings, the researcher concluded that innovation management in the hospitality industry is effective. The researcher therefore recommends among others that there should be a concrete organizational arrangement to improve on the practice of innovation as often as possible in order to enhance the performance of the organizations and be effective.

The aim of this study was to evaluate whether the severity of hyperkeratosis (HK) in the teats of dairy cows can be assessed by a dielectric measurement. The study focused on surveying the occurrence of hyperkeratosis in a total of 241 teats of lactating dairy cows. A scoring system consisting of four categories was used to macroscopically assess the severity of HK. Additionally, the dielectric constant (DC) of all teats with milkability was measured in a double iteration with the MoistureMeterD (Delfin Technologies, Kuopio, Finland) on four different days. The Spearman rank correlation coefficient revealed a negative correlation between the DC and HK score (rs = −0.55 to −0.36). The results of the regression analysis showed that the DC values differed significantly between healthy teat ends (≤2) and teat ends with HK (≥3). Thus, the non-invasive measurement of DC provides a promising method of objectively assessing the occurrence and severity of HK.

Brown mussels (Perna perna) were exposed to cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb), and copper (Cu) concentrations under acute exposure and exposure-depuration tests for the estimation of biochemical biomarker catalase (CAT). The acute tests showed accumulated Cd, Pb, and Cu inPerna pernacorrelated linearly with the exposure concentrations (R2=0.794,R2=0.891, andR2=0.985for Cd, Pb, and Cu, resp.). The results of CAT increased significantly in tissues of treatment mussels after 72 h exposure when compared to control. The values of total protein were disturbed in exposed groups when compared with control. These results suggest that metabolites and catalase activity were affected by heavy metal exposures. Analysis using the Spearman rank correlation coefficient showed that the CAT activity appeared to have a significant positive correlativity (Rs=0.921,Rs=0.949, andRs=0.949for Cd, Pb, and Cu, resp.) with the accumulated Cd, Pb, and Cu concentrations, respectively. The result of exposure-depuration tests showed that there is a general tendency for CAT to decrease in depuration phase, suggesting that the induction of catalase is metal and/or mixture of metals dependent.
