Energy consumption in MobileAdhoc Network (MANET) is a topic of research from more than a decade. Althoughthere are multiple archival of literatures, that have proposed variousenergy-efficient algorithms for reducing the energy consumption to improveenergy efficiency. Establishing correct and reliable route is important designissue in MANET, but a more challenging goal is to provide energy efficientroute. But, it was observed that majority of such energy efficient routingprotocols just give symptomatic solution which addresses and mitigated theenergy issues overlooking various associated issues like quality of services. Moreover, in majority of research previous studies it is found that AODV andDSDV are highly in adoption rate among the researcher for solving energy issuesusing routing protocols. This manuscript after reviewing some of thesignificant literatures in past explored issues in existing AODV and DSDVand  proposes a novel energy efficientrouting protocols by incorporating a new actor called availability zone. Theproposed model shows better energy efficiency and QoS compared to AODV andDSDV.

Cluster-based hierarchical routing protocols play an essential role in decreasing the energy consumption of wireless sensor networks (WSNs). A low-energy adaptive clustering hierarchy (LEACH) has been proposed as an application-specific protocol architecture for WSNs. However, without considering the distribution of the cluster heads (CHs) in the rotation basis, the LEACH protocol will increase the energy consumption of the network. To improve the energy efficiency of the WSN, we propose a novel modified routing protocol in this paper. The newly proposed improved energy-efficient LEACH (IEE-LEACH) protocol considers the residual node energy and the average energy of the networks. To achieve satisfactory performance in terms of reducing the sensor energy consumption, the proposed IEE-LEACH accounts for the numbers of the optimal CHs and prohibits the nodes that are closer to the base station (BS) to join in the cluster formation. Furthermore, the proposed IEE-LEACH uses a new threshold for electing CHs among the sensor nodes, and employs single hop, multi-hop, and hybrid communications to further improve the energy efficiency of the networks. The simulation results demonstrate that, compared with some existing routing protocols, the proposed protocol substantially reduces the energy consumption of WSNs.

Many wireless sensor network (WSN) applications require both security and quality-of-service (QoS) to be guaranteed simultaneously. However, ensuring both security and QoS is not trivial in WSNs since security normally has bad impact on QoS. In this paper, we propose an energy-efficient secure forwarding method that minimizes energy consumption while meeting both security and QoS requirements at the same time. To accomplish this goal, we alternatively use hop-by-hop security for conserving energy through data aggregation and end-to-end security to satisfy the QoS requirement. We further analyze why hop-by-hop security with data aggregation provide better energy efficiency than end-to-end security without aggregation in detail. The simulation result shows that our proposed method outperforms other scheme in terms of energy efficiency while meeting both QoS and security.

Energy efficiency is a well-known and often implemented energy-related activity with a variety of different characteristics and fields of application. Energy efficient solutions, especially for pneumatic and electric intensive processes, are usually applied to minimise the electric and pneumatic energy consumption in the field of production. Especially in complex machinery it must be avoided that the energy consumption influences the productivity or quality of the product. On the other hand, due to volatile energy supply from renewable sources, there is a growing awareness of energy flexibility, which is mainly implemented on energy-intensive processes such as metal production, foundries, chemical processes and paper industry. An increase of the energy flexibility potential of machines often influences the energy efficiency. In other cases, energy efficiency and energy flexibility actions can be conducted without an interaction. This paper compares the definition and characteristics of energy efficiency as well as energy flexibility actions. An application of energy flexibility as well as efficiency actions can lead to optimised energy consumption behaviour of production machinery.

AbstractThe network resource utilization efficiency is limited by the rigid nature of the current wavelength-routed optical networks. The recently proposed flexible optical network can allocate the spectral resources adaptively according to the traffic demand. Meanwhile, the transmission quality has always been a main objective during the routing process in optical networks. Recently, the energy efficiency has also been a hot topic because of the energy consumption problem. In this paper, we propose a novel weighted energy efficient routing and spectrum assignment scheme based on the designed quality of transmission (QoT)-energy estimation model in which the physical impairments and energy consumption are given consideration to two or more things. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can make a better balance between the quality of service (QoS) and energy efficiency.

Wireless Sensor Networks, have witnessed significant amount of improvement in research across various areas like Routing, Security, Localization, Deployment and above all Energy Efficiency. Congestion is a problem of  importance in resource constrained Wireless Sensor Networks, especially for large networks, where the traffic loads exceed the available capacity of the resources . Sensor nodes are prone to failure and the misbehaviour of these faulty nodes creates further congestion. The resulting effect is a degradation in network performance, additional computation and increased energy consumption, which in turn decreases network lifetime. Hence, the data packet routing algorithm should consider congestion as one of the parameters, in addition to the role of the faulty nodes and not merely energy efficient protocols .Nowadays, the main central point of attraction is the concept of Swarm Intelligence based techniques integration in WSN.  Swarm Intelligence based Computational Swarm Intelligence Techniques have improvised WSN in terms of efficiency, Performance, robustness and scalability. The main objective of this research paper is to propose congestion aware , energy efficient, routing approach that utilizes Ant Colony Optimization, in which faulty nodes are isolated by means of the concept of trust further we compare the performance of various existing routing protocols like AODV, DSDV and DSR routing protocols, ACO Based Routing Protocol  with Trust Based Congestion aware ACO Based Routing in terms of End to End Delay, Packet Delivery Rate, Routing Overhead, Throughput and Energy Efficiency. Simulation based results and data analysis shows that overall TBC-ACO is 150% more efficient in terms of overall performance as compared to other existing routing protocols for Wireless Sensor Networks.
