The status of five species of Braconidae described by Fabricius is changed. Lectotypes are designated for all five. Ichneumon hospitator, Bracon anator, and Ophion pennator are transferred to the genus Coccygidium combs. nov. Ichneumon ornator is transferred to Coccygidium and considered a junior synonym of C. hospitator comb. and syn. nov. Bracon similator is transferred to the genus Hemibracon comb. nov. Dichelosus fuscipennis is considered a junior synonym of C. hospitator syn. nov. The genus Dichelosus is synonymized with Coccygidium syn. nov., and the member species are all transferred to Coccygidium: C. fuscipennis comb. nov., C. peruensis comb. nov., C. brasiliensis comb. nov., C. dubiosus comb. nov., C. similis comb. nov., C. variegatus comb. nov., and C. demerarus comb. nov.

The monobasic genus Caenoteleia Kieffer (Hymenoptera: Platygastridae) is considered to be a junior synonym of the widespread and common genus Calliscelio Ashmead, new synonymy. Calliscelio elegans (Perkins) is redescribed, transferred to Calliscelio, new combination, and its geographic distribution documented. Originally described from Hawai‘i, this species is widespread through the tropics. The species likely is distributed by human commerce, possibly in association with cricket pests (Orthoptera: Gryllidae) of sugar cane.

Porcellana paivacarvalhoi Rodrigues da Costa, 1968, described from southeastern Brazil (São Sebastião, São Paulo), is morphologically similar to the eastern Atlantic P. platycheles (Pennant, 1777), and also to the west African P. africana Chace, 1956. The synonymy between P. paivacarvalhoi and P. platycheles was proposed by previous authors without examination of any specimens of P. platycheles, nor did they considered the morphological similarities between P. paivacarvalhoi and P. africana. This synonymy has been implicitly accepted without further analysis. The recent discovery of one male and two females syntypes of P. paivacarvalhoi has prompted new investigations into the status of P. paivacarvalhoi as a junior synonym either of P. platycheles or P. africana. Porcellana paivacarvalhoi is redescribed and illustrated based upon its lectotype herein designated. It is confirmed to be a junior synonym of P. platycheles; all evidence suggests that P. africana is a distinct, separate species. All previous records of P. platycheles from the Brazilian coast are reviewed. Its presence in southeastern Brazil in the late 1960’s most probably represents an historical case of human-mediated introduction by shipping activities. Porcellana platycheles did not manage to establish itself in São Sebastião, nor has it been recorded subsequently elsewhere in Brazil.

Pimelodus brevisMarini, Nichols & La Monte, 1933 was described from the río de la Plata, Departamento San Fernando, Argentina, based only on the holotype, which is missing since 1960s. This species has been cited in the literature and is considered valid despite of no voucher specimen has been found in museum. A taxonomic analysis comprising material from the rio Paraná basin provided additional specimens that made it possible to demonstrate the identity of P. brevis. Based on the original description and illustration of the holotype, we performed an allometric analysis and then we were able to compare the data with the similar sympatric congeners. Those comparisons allowed us to conclude that P. brevisis a junior synonym of P. argenteusPerugia, 1891, described from the río Paraná, Colonia Resistencia, Argentina. Comments on the status of congeners and taxonomic recommendations are provided.

A rare physonect siphonophore, Lychnagalma utricularia (Claus, 1879), is redescribed from 24 specimens collected in the region of the Bahamas by the submersible D.S.R.V. ‘Johnson-Sea-Link II’. It was the most common siphonophore collected by the submersible, using its sophisticated sampling techniques. The paucity of previous records for the species, and thus its apparent rarity, is probably due to the extreme fragility of the animals which causes them to disintegrate on contact with nets. The status of the second species, L. vesicularia Haeckel, 1888, is reviewed and it is concluded that it should be reduced to a junior synonym of L. utricularia.

Three new species of the genus Aemene Walker, 1854 are described: Aemene cernyi sp. n. (NE India and E Nepal), Aemene laszloi sp. n. (C Nepal) and Aemene bucseki sp. n. (C Nepal and Pakistan). The Aemene taprobanis Walker, 1854 species-group is established and characterised. The status of one taxon previously considered as a junior synonym of A. taprobanis is revised: Aemene sinuata Moore, 1878, stat. rev. A taxon previously considered as a subspecies of A. taprobanis is upgraded to species level: Aemene likiangensis (Daniel, 1951), stat. nov. Lectotypes are designated for Aemene taprobanis Walker, 1854, Panassa cingalesa Walker, 1865, Autoceras grammophora Felder, 1874 and Aemene sinuata Moore, 1878. Adults together with the male and the female genitalia of the new and related species are illustrated.

This work analyzes the status of Peruvian species of Ctenodontina Enderlein, provides the description of the hitherto unknown female of Ctenodontina mochica Lamas, and proposes the revalidation of Ctenodontina carrerai (Hull) stat. rev. (currently regarded as a junior synonym of Ctenodontina maya Carrera & d’Andretta). Additionally, some comments about taxonomy, diagnostic features of male terminalia and distribution of four Peruvian Ctenodontina species, including a modification to the existing key to known species and a map updating their distribution records are given. We report Pachitea Melichar (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae) as prey of Ctenodontina nairae Vieira.

We investigate variation of body pattern in Fukienogomphus prometheus (Lieftinck, 1939) and notice the similarity of its female to Stylurus takashii (Asahina, 1966), an enigmatic species whose male is still unknown. We then review the taxonomic history of S. takashii and compare its holotype female with the female F. prometheus. Our results show S. takashii is a junior synonym to F. prometheus. We elucidate the intraspecific variation of F. prometheus and provide information for its ecology and distribution in Taiwan. We also discuss the similarities between the adults of Fukienogomphus choifongae Wilson & Tam, 2006 and F. prometheus which in future studies may prove to be conspecific and will require to synonymise the two names. Finally, we confirm the genus Stylurus Needham, 1897 is not distributed in Taiwan.

AbstractThe taxonomic status of the flying lizard, Draco curnutus Günther, 1864, recently frequently regarded as a junior synonym of D. volans Linnaeus, 1758, is reassessed. Our field observations in Borneo confirmed sympatric occurrence of two morphotypes of D. volans sensu lato, one of which showed a diagnostic character of D. cornutus. The two morphotypes also differ from each other in live coloration, allozyme pattern and mitochondrial DNA sequence. From these results, it is concluded that D. curnutus is a valid species.

Many species currently placed in Sciacharis Broun were once included in Euconnus Thomson, and their taxonomic history is complicated due to diffuse and overlapping diagnoses of both genera applied by previous authors, numerous virtually unjustified transfers of species between them, and hundreds of species not assigned to any subgenus. Based on comparative morphological studies of respective type species, we clarify the status of Allomaoria Franz, Austroconophron Franz, Magellanoconnus Franz, Neuraphoconnus Franz and Valdivioconnus Franz. All of them, except for Neuraphoconnus, were originally described as subgenera of Euconnus, later transferred to Sciacharis. Austroconophron is removed from synonymy with Sciacharis s. str. and resurrected as subgenus of Euconnus (resulting in Euconnus (Austroconophron Franz, status rest.); Allomaoria is retained as a junior synonym of Sciacharis s. str.; Magellanoconnus is removed from Sciacharis and restituted as genus (resulting in Magellanoconnus Franz, status rest.); Anthicimimus Franz, previously removed from subgenus of Sciacharis and elevated to genus rank, is reduced to subgenus of Magellanoconnus (resulting in Magellanoconnus (Anthicimimus stat. rev.); Neuraphoconnus is removed from synonymy with Magellanoconnus and resurrected as genus (resulting in Neuraphoconnus Franz, status rest.); and Valdivioconnus is transferred from subgenus of Sciacharis to subgenus of Microscydmus Saulcy & Croissandeau (resulting in Microscydmus (Valdivioconnus Franz, status rev.). The only Australian species of Magellanoconnus is transferred to Kangarooconnus Jałoszyński, gen. n. (resulting in Kangarooconnus carinifrons (Franz), comb. n.). A complete checklist of 302 species and subspecies previously or currently placed in Sciacharis (including 102 restituted and 50 new combinations) is given. Three replacement names are proposed for secondary homonyms resulted from new combinations: Euconnus (Austroconophron) caledonensides Newton, nom. n. (for Euconnus caledonensis Franz, 1986, not Euconnus caledonensis Franz, 1979); Magellanoconnus (s. str.) castrianus Jałoszyński & Newton, nom. n. (for Magellanoconnus castrii (Franz, 1967: 636), not Magellanoconnus castrii (Franz, 1967: 614)); and Sciacharis (Sciacharis) bryantides Newton, nom. n. (for Euconnus bryanti Franz, 1975, not Euconnus bryanti Lhoste, 1939). Lectotypes are designated (des. Jałoszyński) for Euconnus tindoui Franz, 1971, Phagonophana lanosa Broun, 1885, and Neuraphoconnus caledonicus Franz, 1971.

As part of preparation for identification keys to the branchiopod crustaceans of the Neotropical Region, we re-examined many species of Anostraca that appeared to be closely related. Our examination caused us to re-evaluate the status and relationship of two branchinectid species.
