Bidessus anatolicus adiyaman ssp. n. is described from the Adıyaman province in southern Turkey. The taxon belongs to the unistriatus-group of the genus and can be separated from the nominotypical subspecies of Bidessus anatolicus Wewalka, 1972 by the broader body and the different shape of the male genitalia. The new taxon is illustrated in detail and photographs of the type locality and the surrounding area are given.

A new species, Phytocoris (Eckerleinius) hawramanicum sp. nov is described from Iran. A revised dichotomous key to the species of subgenus Eckerleinius Wagner known in Iran and adjacent regions, illustrations of male genitalia and male habitus photographs of this new taxon are provided. Diagnosis of the new species is based on a comparison with other congeneric found from Iran and adjacent countries. The type specimens were deposited in the insect collection of the University of Guilan, Rasht, Iran.

The article describes two new species: Roepkiella jakli sp. nov. (type locality: Indonesia, Sangir Isl., Tahuna Distr., Bukit Bembalut Hill) and R. korshunovi sp. nov. (type locality: Thailand, Khon Kaen Prov., Phu Wiang Wat). The diagnostic features are given, the male genitalia of R. celebensis (Roepke, 1957) are described for the first time.

AbstractThe type material ofAgraulos antiquusSdzuy, 1961 from the La Herrería Formation, northern Spain, is revised together with additional material and included in the new genusLunagraulos. The stratigraphical range ofLunagraulos antiquus(Sdzuy, 1961) – occurring below that of the trilobite species of the generaLunolenus,MetadoxidesandDolerolenusin the type locality of Los Barrios de Luna in the province of León, northern Spain – and the accompanying ichnofossil assemblage demonstrate an Ovetian age (lower part of Cambrian Stage 3, currently being discussed by the International Subcommission on Cambrian Stratigraphy) for this species. Moreover, the trilobiteLunagraulos tamamensisn. gen. n. sp. is found in the Tamames Sandstone near the village of La Rinconada in the province of Salamanca, central Spain. The biostratigraphical position of this new taxon and its accompanying ichnoassemblage is also analysed and assigned to the lowermost Ovetian Stage. The genusLunagraulosis therefore the oldest agraulid found in the fossil record. The exceptional presence ofLunagraulosin a marine coarse siliciclastic succession – a facies rather typical for the ichnofossilsCruzianaandRusophycus, some of the oldest signs of trilobite activity – suggests that first trilobite representatives may have inhabited high- to middle-energy, marine environments. This hypothesis may also explain both the taxonomic and biostratigraphic heterogeneity of the first trilobite genera appearing across the world, due to preservation problems in this type of facies. Comparison of theLunagraulos biostratigraphy with other coeval Spanish fossil assemblages allows us to propose its intercontinental correlation with the oldest records of currently known trilobites.

Three new species, Platyderus casalei new species (type locality: Santa Eufemia, Calabria Region), Platyderus paganettii new species (type locality: Santa Eufemia, Calabria Region) and Platyderus vignai new species (type locality: Gargano Mountain, Apulia Region) are described. The diagnostic characters of the new taxa are defined and figures of the male genitalia are depicted. The synonymy of Platyderus neapolitanus (Reiche, 1855) and Platyderus canaliculatus jannonei Binaghi, 1955 is confirmed. Platyderus dalmatinus is treated as doubtful for the fauna of Italy. A key of the five Italian species of Platyderus from the South Apennines is included.

Within the framework of a DNA barcoding project on tardigrade species, a study was carried out on Macrobiotus hufelandi C.A.S. Schultze 1834, the first formally described tardigrade species. We used samples collected from the type locality and additional material from other European sites containing species of the “M. hufelandi group”. The study was performed by integrating morphological, karyological and molecular (mt-DNA cox1) information and comparing these data with morphological data from the type material. Several species from this group were found in the type locality of M. hufelandi (near Freiburg, Black Forest, Germany) and these were all barcoded. One was M. hufelandi, the other two were: Macrobiotus sandrae Bertolani & Rebecchi 1993 (originally described from the same locality), and Macrobiotus vladimiri Bertolani, Biserov, Rebecchi & Cesari in press (type locality Andalo, Italy), all with interspecific genetic distances of more than 19%. A fourth cryptic species, which had the same morphology as M. hufelandi but a genetic distance of 6.7%, was not described as a new taxon but named M. cf. hufelandi sp.1 for this study. Macrobiotus sandrae and M. vladimiri were also present (and barcoded) in Italy (Alps). Additional individuals (animals and eggs) were also found, and barcoded, in Italy (Apennines) and Switzerland that belonged to the haplogroup Macrobiotus cf. hufelandi sp. 1. These data together with other recent studies on tardigrade DNA barcoding represent a starting point for further studies on tardigrade biogeography, phylogeography and diversity.

A list of 78 species of the tortricoid tribe Cochylini from the southern Ural Mountains is presented. The material was collected during 1996–2000 on nine different Finnish-Russian expeditions. Cochylimorpha ignicolorana Junnilainen & K. Nupponen sp. n. is described. The new taxon occurs on dry steppe slopes in the headland region of the southern Urals, and it is rather easy to separate from closely related taxa both externally and by the male genitalia. In addition, 7 species are reported as new for Europe and 4 species as new for Russia. The known distribution range of each species is given as well as further notes on some poorly known taxa.

Here, we describe Contradens novoselovi sp. nov. (Bivalvia: Unionidae), a new freshwater mussel species from the Mekong Basin in Laos. Phylogenetic and morphological analyses reveal that the new taxon is closely related to Contradens comptus (Deshayes & Jullien, 1874) but can be distinguished from it by a smaller size, sub-ovate shell shape, tiny wrinkles near umbo, stronger pseudocardinal and lateral teeth, and fixed nucleotide substitutions. Contradens novoselovi sp. nov. is known only from the type locality in northwestern Laos and may represent a rare endemic species with restricted range.

Agrophaspidium gen. n. is described for six species: Agrophaspidium flavimana sp. n. (type locality: La Selva, Costa Rica); Agrophaspidium hastatum Duda, 1930, comb. n. (type locality: Suiza de Turrialba, Costa Rica); Agrophaspidium minutum sp. n. (type locality: Gatun Lake, near Colón, Panama); Agrophaspidium monticola sp. n. (type species of genus; type locality: Monteverde, Costa Rica); Agrophaspidium pollinosum sp. n. (type locality: Portachuelo Pass, Venezuela); and Agrophaspidium psilotum sp. n. (type locality: Guanacaste National Park, Costa Rica). Agrophaspidium is distinguished from other Oscinellinae by the combination of an anteromedial-posterolateral arrangement of the vertical bristles, a dorsally flattened scutellum with four elongate marginal projections bearing stout bristles, and characters of the male genitalia (enlarged epandrium, branched surstylus, enlarged and modified cercus). Although the phylogenetic relationships of species within Agrophaspidium are resolved by morphological characters, the generic relationships to other Oscinellinae are unresolved.

Platycleis galvagnii n. sp. from Sardinia (Italy) is described. In general habitus the new taxon is close to Platycleis sensu strictu, albeit very small in size. When looking at other characters the species does not seem to fit within one of the groups recognised within Platycleis s.l., but for the moment the species is placed in Platycleis s.s.. The species is characterised by a range of morphological and bioacoustic characters. Its real affiliations with other species within the Platycleis complex need to be established further. For the moment the species is known only from the type locality, Gennargentu mountain in the central part of Sardinia.

The Oriental genus Physodera Eschscholtz, 1829 is revised. A key to species is provided, along with distribution maps, and illustrations of habitus and male genitalia of all available species. Two new species are described: Physodera sciakyi sp. n. (type locality: S. Sulawesi, Indonesia), and Physodera unicolor sp. n. (type locality: Zhejiang, China). Three new synonyms are proposed: Physodera parvicollis Van de Poll, 1889 = Physodera eschscholtzii Parry, 1849, Allocota sumatrensis Kirschenhofer, 1996 = Physodera eschscholtzii Parry, 1849, and Physodera noctiluca Mohnike, 1875= Physodera dejeani Eschscholtz, 1829.
