Increased interest in the practice of brief counseling and therapy has been accompanied by an expansion of research activity. Nevertheless, signs abound of a schism between science- and practice-based understandings. This article outlines major approaches to brief counseling practice, including psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and strategic; summarizes recent research on brief therapeutic outcomes and processes; and identifies overlapping themes in the science and practice literatures. An integrative model of brief intervention, capable of being flexibly modified for a variety of client populations, is offered as a framework for future practice, research, and training activities.

This chapter describes an integrative therapy for generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) that responsively assimilates motivational interviewing (MI) into cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). MI is a person-centered method that helps clients increase their intrinsic drive to change by identifying and working through their intrapsychic ambivalence about or interpersonal resistance to change, which are common negative process markers for clients with GAD. The MI spirit can also facilitate CBT outside of these markers by forestalling such processes that, even in small doses, correlate with poor outcomes. The authors also present assessment methods (especially for the markers of change ambivalence and resistance); summarize the application and structure of MI interventions; describe the processes of change, therapeutic relationship, and core techniques in MI + CBT; consider diversity elements; and provide a case example. The chapter concludes by reviewing the outcome research for this integrative therapy and by highlighting future practice, research, and training directions.

Abstract: Classroom Action Research (CAR) is an action research activity carried out by the teacher in the class. This article was the result of Community Service activities conducted by a team of lecturers from the Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Universitas Papua. This activity aims to train the ability to develop CAR for science teachers in Manokwari District, West Papua. The training was given to the existing science teachers in Manokwari District, which was attended by 35 natural science teachers from 17 existing junior high schools. The method used in the implementation of this training was the method of lecture, discussion, demonstration and training in the preparation of tools and implementation of CAR. The instruments used were response questionnaires filled out by training participants to find out their responses about CAR and the implementation of CAR training activities. The data analysis technique uses Rasch modeling. The results of the analysis obtained a person measure value of +0.11 greater than 0.00 logit which indicates that the training participants agreed to the implementation of CAR training activities. Based on the search results of the questionnaire statement, most teachers have never implemented CAR before so their understanding of CAR still needs to be developed. CAR training activities are very helpful for science teachers in Manokwari Regency in compiling devices, implementing, evaluating, and reporting on CAR results. Digitalization has transformed all aspects of life, from social interactions to the working environment and education, something that accelerated with the emergence of COVID-19. The same stands for education and training activities, where the use of digital tools has been gradually advancing and become merely online because of the virus. This brought forth the need to discuss further the applications, benefits, and challenges of digital tools within the framework of the education and training process, and the need to study examples of successful applications. This study aims to support both these requirements by presenting the case study of REFUGEEClassAssistance4Teachers project and its outcomes.

Irrigation sustainability is particularly important in the vicinity of Doñana National Park (Huelva, Spain), where Europe’s most important wetland area coexists with a profitable strawberry irrigation activity. In this paper, an innovation and technology transfer project was laid out. The project was promoted by the Institute of Agricultural and Fisheries Research and Training (IFAPA), belonging to the Regional Government of Andalusia. The main objective of the project was to contribute to the sustainability of the complex ecological, productive, and social system of this region. The project was focused on the rational use of water resources. Experimentation, demonstration, technology transfer, and training activities were carried out, involving public administrations, companies, and private farms. The project was carried out in collaboration with strawberry companies covering a total surface area of 1900 hectares. Irrigation application efficiency and irrigation water productivity increased by 66% and there was also a significant increase in water saving (44%), without resulting production losses. The success of the activity was based on the implication of farmers in experimentation assignments. During a five-year time span, irrigation trials took place on several farms. This fact allowed a progressive improvement of irrigation management by farmers based on confidence in the experimental work results.

Internationally, vascular access (VA) surgery is delivered in a varied and diverse fashion and subsequently, training in vascular access is poorly defined. Experience of VA during surgical training has implications on future practice. The scope of VA procedures is increasing, yet the focus in vascular training remains largely in the technical aspects of surgery rather than the more comprehensive aspects of surgery applied to dialysis and renal care. To achieve special skills in vascular access surgery may require a change to traditional training with an additional focus on developing an extended portfolio of knowledge and skills. A small number of specialized courses and training facilities are developing to address these issues.
