Measuring basketball players’ declarative tactical knowledge is relevant to the teaching and learning process. In this study we aimed to verify the construct validity and construct reliability of the Instrument for Measuring Declarative Tactical Knowledge in Basketball (IMDTK-Bb). We recruited 1,188 male basketball athletes aged 10-19 years old. We used confirmatory factor analysis with weighted least squares mean and variance estimator for construct validation and MacDonald´s omega for internal consistency. We established a final model with 17 scenes referring to the declarative tactical knowledge and type of action players used to solve game situations the scenes represented. The final model presented a good Comparative Fit Index (CFI = 1.000), Tucker–Lewis Index (TLI = 1.001) and Root Mean Square Error of Approximation (RMSEA = .000). The reliability index was .779. We conclude that the IMDTK-Bb has good construct validity and can be used in further research.

Abstract Background Sustainable employability (SE) is top priority. However, employers find it difficult to develop SE interventions. Measures based on the employee perspective of SE that would give direction to interventions, currently fall short, particularly for the understudied group of employees with lower levels of education (1/3 of the Dutch labor population). Earlier, the Maastricht Instrument for SE (MAISE-NL) was developed and validated in a sample of high-educated employees. This study aims to adjust and validate MAISE-NL for use among Lower Educated employees (MAISE-LE). Methods By means of focus groups consisting of employees with lower levels of education, items and response categories of MAISE have been aligned with the perceptions of these employees. Other items from subscales such as job control, self-efficacy and lifestyle were added. Language was checked for clarity and ambiguity. A questionnaire containing these items, as well as proxy variables (health and vitality) and demographics, was answered online by 944 lower educated employees from five organizations (response rates 44-64%). Construct validity, reliability and criterion validity were tested through PCA, CFA, Cronbach's alpha and correlations. Results MAISE-LE comprises 10 scales divided over four areas: (1) Level of SE; (2) Factors affecting my SE; (3) Overall responsibility for SE; and (4) Responsibility for factors affecting my SE. Preliminary results indicate that reliability, construct and criterion validity were adequate to good. Employees' SE was moderate to high, and was generally considered a shared responsibility of employee and employer. The latter varies per factor though. Employees wish to participate more in decisions regarding their work. Conclusions The MAISE-LE appeared to be reliable and valid. We recommend that employers use the MAISE-LE as a needs assessment in order to develop SE interventions that will be readily accepted and effective for employees with lower levels of education. Key messages MAISE-LE (Maastricht Instrument for Sustainable Employability) is a new instrument for measuring SE and the responsibility for SE from the perspective of employees with lower levels of education. The MAISE-LE will facilitate employers in the development of effective SE interventions, which align with the needs of this vulnerable group of employees.

Objective Improve the content validity of the instrument for classification of pediatric patients and evaluate its construct validity. Method A descriptive exploratory study in the measurement of the content validity index, and correlational design for construct validation through exploratory factor analysis. Results The content validity index for indicators was 0.99 and it was 0.97 for graded situations. Three domains were extracted in the construct validation, namely: patient, family and therapeutic procedures, with 74.97% of explained variance. The instrument showed evidences of content and construct validity. Conclusion The validation of the instrument occurred under the approach of family-centered care, and allowed incorporating some essential needs of childhood such as playing, interaction and affection in the content of the instrument.

Background: Generalised anxiety disorder (GAD) frequently occurs amongst patients with tuberculosis (TB) and contributes to poor quality of life and treatment outcomes. This study evaluated the construct validity and reliability of the GAD-7 scale in a sample of patients with TB in the Free State Province.Methods: A pilot study was conducted amongst a convenience sample of 208 adult patients newly diagnosed with drug-susceptible TB attending primary healthcare (PHC) facilities in the Lejweleputswa District in the Free State. A structured interviewer-administered questionnaire comprising social demographic questions and the GAD-7 scale was used. Confirmatory factor analysis was used to investigate the construct validity of the GAD-7 scale. The reliability of the scale was assessed by calculating Cronbach’s alpha.Results: The analysis showed that a modified two-factor (somatic symptoms and cognitive -emotional symptoms) model, in which the items ‘Not being able to stop or control worrying’ and ‘Worrying too much about different things’ were allowed to covary (Comparative Fit Index: 0.996, Tucker–Lewis Index: 0.993, Root Mean Square Error of Approximation: 0.070, 90% confidence interval: 0.032–0.089), fitted the data better than a unidimensional (generalised anxiety) or an unmodified two-factor model. The indicators all showed significant positive factor loadings, with standardised coefficients ranging from 0.719 to 0.873. The Cronbach’s alpha of the scale was 0.86.Conclusion: The modified two-factor structure and high internal consistency respectively provide evidence for construct validity and reliability of the GAD-7 scale for assessing GAD amongst patients with TB. Studies are necessary to assess the performance of this brief scale under routine TB programme conditions in the Free State.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to show how one instructor used an integrated collection of technological and cognitive tools that consistently led to student success. Educators today struggle with the need to improve student success in a dynamic and increasingly technological world. Learners need to master more, more quickly and educators need to upgrade their skills to meet these needs. Design/methodology/approach – This vision-based research design focused on the goal that all students can succeed. The design took the non-traditional approach of separating pedagogical models that worked from those that did not. The objectives were achieved by successively improving the pedagogy. The components of the final model were evaluated using multiple regression to determine individual and summative effectiveness. Findings – The pedagogical model designed around the goals of allowing adequate time for scaffolded acquisition and increasing skill development demonstrated consistent student success in the A and B grade range. Research limitations/implications – A sophisticated knowledge of the issues involved underlies the actualization of this research. The success of the approach will be determined by the author’s ability to enable the method to function on its own. Practical implications – With the increasing sophistication of teaching and learning tools, opportunities arise for more detailed and complex pedagogical analyses. Social implications – With improved pedagogies, more students will succeed. Originality/value – Using Microsoft® Excel® for evaluation of a pedagogical model that is also quantitatively analyzable.

The aim of this study was to establish the construct validity of an instrument for assessing organisational socialisation. A purposive sample of 170 respondents completed the socialisation instrument. Scale reliabilities and a confrmatory factor analysis confrmed six constructs (History, Language, Politics, People, Organisational Goals and Values, and Performance Profciency) as measures of this domain. The signifcance of the fndings of this study is that from a South African perspective, the socialisation instrument can be useful in measuring organisational socialisation. This instrument can also be valuable in assessing the effectiveness of the socialisation tactics used by organisations.

Objectives The objective of this article is to validate the Lupus Impact Tracker (LIT), a disease-specific patient-reported outcome (PRO) tool, in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients in a multi-ethnic Australian cohort. Methods Patients attending the Monash Lupus Clinic were asked to complete the LIT, a 10-item PRO. Psychometric testing assessing criterion validity, construct validity, test-retest reliability (TRT) and internal consistency reliability (ICR) were performed. We compared the LIT scores across patient characteristics, and correlations between LIT scores and SLEDAI-2k, PGA, and SLICC-SDI were examined. Results LIT data were obtained from 73 patients. Patients were 84% female with a median age of 41 years, and 34% were Asian. The cohort had mild-moderate disease activity with a median (IQR) Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Disease Activity Index-2000 (SLEDAI-2k) of 4 (IQR 2–6). The median LIT score was 32.5 (IQR 17.5–50). LIT demonstrated criterion validity against SLEDAI-2k and SDI. Construct validity assessed by confirmatory factor analysis demonstrated an excellent fit (Goodness of fit index 0.95, Comparative Fit Index 1, Root Mean Square Error of Approximation <0.0001). The LIT demonstrated TRT with an overall intraclass correlation coefficient of 0.986 (95% CI 0.968–0.995). ICR was demonstrated with a Cronbach’s alpha of 0.838. Patients with disability, low socioeconomic status, or higher disease activity had significantly worse LIT scores. Conclusion The LIT demonstrated properties consistent with its being valid in this population. Lower socioeconomic status appears to have a significant impact on patient-reported health-related quality of life in SLE.

Two different analysis procedures were used to ascertain the response dimensionality inherent in Sarason's Test Anxiety Scale for Children (TASC) in order that inferences regarding the functional construct validity of the scale could be made. The analysis procedures were factor analysis and McQuitty's elementary linkage analysis. The four factors obtained were: test anxiety, generalized school anxiety, recitation anxiety, and physiological arousal in anticipated recitation situations. Linkage analysis clusters closely paralleled the factors. It was felt the results were compatable with the theoretical constructs on which the scale was constructed. However, because of the clear-cut multi-dimensionality of the scale, the utilization of single TASC scores was questioned.

The current study examined the psychometric validity and gender invariance of the Academic Buoyancy Scale in the Philippines through a construct validation approach. In terms of within-network construct validity, our results demonstrated that the unidimensional model of academic buoyancy significantly fit the current sample and was invariant across gender. Male students scored significantly higher than female students on academic buoyancy. Regarding between-network construct validity, our results revealed that academic buoyancy was positively associated with behavioral and emotional engagement. Implications of the findings of the study are discussed.

The present study was an attempt to validate a scale of academic curiosity. An 80-item true-false self-report scale was constructed containing items that seemed to reflect curiosity of an academic nature and correlated with two measures of intelligence. The reliability and construct validity of the scale are supported by the data.

ABSTRACT. The concept Awareness of Age-Related Change (AARC) is defined as a person’s awareness that their behavior, level of physical, cognitive and social performance, and ways of experiencing life have changed as a consequence of having grown older, and not because of disease. Objective: A psychometric study investigating evidence of construct validity and internal consistency of the Portuguese version of the AARC Short Scale was carried out. Method: A convenience sample of 387 individuals aged≥60 years with no deficit suggestive of dementia were recruited at venues frequented by older persons and at households. Participants answered the Portuguese version of the scale, along with questionnaires collecting sociodemographic and frailty variables and self-rated health based on personal criteria and relative to peers. Results: Exploratory and confirmatory factorial analyses derived a structure with two orthogonal factors representing the latent variables gains and losses, invariant for age group, thus replicating the original scale. The factors explained a large proportion of item variability (58.6 to 51.8%) and exhibited high loadings (0.886 to 0.432) and good communality [0.787 for item 4 (better sense of what is important) and 0.369 for item 6 (less energy)]. The hypotheses of covariance between the new instrument and the parallel measures of frailty and self-rated health were confirmed. The levels of internal consistency were high (α>0.700). Conclusion: Evidence confirmed the factor and convergent (construct) validity and internal consistency of the new scale in Portuguese.
