A Mokken Scale for Transitive Reasoning Suited for Longitudinal Research

A set of transitivity tasks was solved on two occasions by 634 2nd through 6th grade primary school children. Transitivity scales were constructed for both occasions using Mokken scale analysis. Combining the results, one final scale was constructed for use in future research. The order of the scale tasks according to their difficulty level was the same on both occasions. Analysis of the scale scores of one group retested after 16 weeks and two control groups revealed an absence of effects due to memorisation or test experience. It was concluded that the final scale is useful as a transitivity measure in longitudinal research.

While exercising, there is a purposeful impact on the complex of body natural properties, which belongs to physical qualities of a person. Affecting physical qualities, under certain conditions, achieve a significant change of the level and direction of their development. In this regard, the aim of the research paper is to analyse the developed and scientifically grounded methods of circuit training for optimization of Physical Education lessons for primary school children. The Purpose of the Study – to elaborate and scientifically substantiate the training methods optimization of Physical Education lessons for primary school children. Research Organization, based on the fact, that 107 pupils of 9th–10th forms took part at the experiment. They were divided into experimental and control groups (experimental groups include 27 boys and 26 girls; control groups –28 boys and 26 girls). The experiment was attended by 9–10 year-old boys and girls that were included to the main medical group. Results.The chosen tests were informative in order to the dynamics detection of the developed methods and gave a positive growth for both groups (p <0,05; p <0,01). But the best result was shown by the experimental group. Due to the fact that during the methodology construction, not only the sensitive development, but also those aspects that would motivate the children before classes, were taken into consideration. Conclusions. Data, obtained during the methodology implementation of the circuit training, proved the effectiveness of our methods, that used during the school year as a modernized tool for increasing the level of physical preparedness of primary school children.

This paper analyses Emotional Intelligence (EI) in Colombian Primary School Children depending on their location (rural or urban) and gender. The final sample consisted of 1451 students in fourth and fifth grade of three provinces in Boyacá department. Emotional Quotient Inventory: Youth Version (EQ-i: YV; Bar-On & Parker, 2000) was used for data collection. Both the reliability and validity of EQ-i: YV have been determined for this sample. The main results revealed differences in EI according to location. Overall, EI was higher in the urban than rural settings. Also, scores on the dimensions interpersonal and adaptability differed by gender. Additionally, the need for future research and development of Social and Emotional Learning programs in schools is discussed.

Saliva is a body fluid with hitherto unused potential for the assessment of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies. Specific antibodies can indicate a past SARS-CoV-2 infection and allow to estimate the proportion of individuals with a potential protective immunity. First, we carefully characterized plasma samples obtained from adult control groups with and without prior SARS-CoV-2 infection using certified reference ELISAs. Simultaneously collected saliva samples of confirmed convalescent and negative individuals where then used to validate the herein newly developed ELISA for the detection of SARS-CoV-2 IgG antibodies in saliva. The saliva ELISA was applied to assess SARS-CoV-2 exposure in young children (N = 837) in the age between 1 and 10 years in Tübingen, Germany, towards the end of the first pandemic year 2020. Sensitivity and specificity of the new saliva ELISA was 87% and 100%, respectively. With 12% of all Tübingen children sampled via their respective educational institutions, estimates of SARS-CoV-2 antibody prevalence was 1.6%. Interestingly, only 0.4% preschool kids were positive compared to 3.0% of primary school children. Less than 20% of positive children self-reported symptoms within two months prior to saliva sampling that could be associated - but not exclusively - with a SARS-CoV-2 infection. The saliva ELISA is a valid and suitable protocol to enable population-based surveys for SARS-CoV-2 antibodies. Using non-invasive sampling and saliva ELISA testing, we found that prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies was significantly lower in young children than in primary school children.
