Blogs are one of the main user-generated contents on the web and are growing in number rapidly. The characteristics of blogs require the development of specialized search methods which are tuned for the blogosphere. In this paper, we focus on blog retrieval, which aims at ranking blogs with respect to their recurrent relevance to a user’s topic. Although different blog retrieval algorithms have already been proposed, few of them have considered temporal properties of the input queries. Therefore, we propose an efficient approach to improving relevant blog retrieval using temporal property of queries. First, time sensitivity of each query is automatically computed for different time intervals based on an initially retrieved set of relevant posts. Then a temporal score is calculated for each blog and finally all blogs are ranked based on their temporal and content relevancy with regard to the input query. Experimental analysis and comparison of the proposed method are carried out using a standard dataset with 45 diverse queries. Our experimental results demonstrate that, using different measurement criteria, our proposed method outperforms other blog retrieval methods.

A simulation describing the fiber movement during the condensation was conducted, and the effect of the condensation in the carding machine was studied. The simulation results showed that the condensation has the blending and the evening effect on the condensed sliver, which can be explained by the fiber rearrangement. Moreover, the increasing web width and the decreasing condensing length can result in a more uniform sliver. Further, the evening effect of the web width on the web was verified by experiments. The simulation results were in general agreement with the experimental results.

PageRank algorithms only consider hyperlink information, without other page information such as page hits frequency, page update time and web page category. Therefore, the algorithms rank a lot of advertising pages and old pages pretty high and can’t meet the users' needs. This paper further studies the page meta-information such as category, page hits frequency and page update time. The Web page with high hits frequency and with smaller age should get a high rank, while the above two factors are more or less dependent on page category. Experimental results show that the algorithm has good results.

<p>We present a detailed global data-set of volcanic sulphur dioxide (SO2) emissions during the period 2005-2017. Measurements were obtained by scanning-DOAS instruments of the NOVAC network at 32 volcanoes, and processed using a standardized procedure. We reveal the daily statistics of volcanic gas emissions under a variety of volcanological and meteorological conditions. Data from several volcanoes are presented for the first time. Our results  are compared with yearly averages derived from measurements from space by the Aura/OMI instrument and with historical inventories of GEIA. This comparison shows some interesting differences which reasons are briefly discussed. Data is openly available through the web repository at https://novac.chalmers.se/.</p>

Due to the large increase in the use of precast concrete structures in multistory buildings, this work covers a study on the behavior of beam-column connection with emphasis on the continuity provided by the slab reinforcement. Two prototypes were tested, each one with a different detail of the continuity reinforcement distribution. In both connections, the steel area used on the concrete cover of the hollow core slab was the same, varying the amount of bars that passed through the column and the ones that were placed adjacent to the column. The experimental results showed that the connection with bars adjacent to the column presented stiffness increase and a better cracking control. According to the classification the two tested connections can be considered semi-rigid.

The clonal age in paramecia refers to the total number of vegetative divisions a clone has undergone since its origin at autogamy (self-fertilization). As clonal age increases, the interfission time usually increases. The DNA synthesis pattern of cells of different ages was compared by autoradiographic analysis of the DNA synthesis of synchronized cells at various time intervals during the cell cycle (from one division to the next). The study showed that the G1 period (the lag in DNA synthesis post division) was constant, irrespective of interfission time or clonal age; but the duration of the DNA synthesis period increased with increased interfission time or clonal age. Therefore, we have shown for the first time that the G1 period is fixed, and the S period is increased in a eukaryotic unicellular organism as a function of interfission time and clonal age.

A novel refractometer based on photoelectric sensor technology and differential method is proposed. Sensing principle and mathematical model are introduced; structure and key parameters of sensing probe are designed through detail calculation. Theoretical solution shows resolution reaches order of 10-5. Preliminary experiments verify the feasibility of the design, experimental results show stability error better than ±1.02×10-4, error caused by temperature is 6.65×10-6/°C.

Online reviews are readily available on the Web and widely used for decision-making. However, only a few studies on Portuguese sentiment analysis are reported due to the lack of resources including domain-specific sentiment lexical collections. In this paper, we present an effective methodology using probabilities of the Bayes’ Theorem for building a set of lexicons, called SentiProdBR, for 10 different product categories for the Portuguese language. Experimental results indicate that our methodology significantly outperforms several alternative approaches of building domain-specific sentiment lexicons.

Nowadays, determining if an image appeared somewhere on the web or in a magazine or is authentic or not has become crucial. Image forensics methods based on features have demonstrated so far to be very effective in detecting forgeries in which a portion of an image is cloned somewhere else onto the same image. Anyway such techniques cannot be adopted to deal with splicing attack, that is, when the image portion comes from another picture that then, usually, is not available anymore for an operation of feature match. In this paper, a procedure in which these techniques could also be employed will be shown to get rid of splicing attack by resorting to the use of some repositories of images available on the Internet like Google Images or TinEye Reverse Image Search. Experimental results are presented on some real case images retrieved on the Internet to demonstrate the capacity of the proposed procedure.

Model tests with five different keels in combination with one particular hull form have been carried out in the Delft Towing Tank. The variations include a plain deep keel, a keel-centre board, a plain restricted draft keel,a "Scheel" keel and a "winglet" keel. Based on the experimental results performance predictions are given for a 63 ft yacht for windspeeds up to 25 knots. The measured side force and resistance as a function of heeling angle, leeway angle and forward speed are used to analyse the relative merits of the considered keel-hull combinations.

Relation extraction from the Web data has attracted a lot of attention recently. However, little work has been done when it comes to the enterprise data regardless of the urgent needs to such work in real applications (e.g., E-discovery). One distinct characteristic of the enterprise data (in comparison with the Web data) is its low redundancy. Previous work on relation extraction from the Web data largely relies on the data's high redundancy level and thus cannot be applied to the enterprise data effectively. This chapter reviews related work on relation extraction and introduces an unsupervised hybrid framework REACTOR for semantic relation extraction over enterprise data. REACTOR combines a statistical method, classification, and clustering to identify various types of relations among entities appearing in the enterprise data automatically. REACTOR was evaluated over a real-world enterprise data set from HP that contains over three million pages and the experimental results show its effectiveness.
