The National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT) has developed a test method to determine the asphalt content of hot-mix asphalt (HMA) mixtures by ignition. In the ignition method, an HMA sample is subjected to heat of 538°C (1,000°F) in a furnace to ignite and burn the asphalt cement (AC) from the aggregate. The difference in weight of the sample before and after is used to determine the asphalt content of the mixture. The aggregate recovered after ignition testing may then be used for gradation analysis. A round-robin study was completed by NCAT to determine the accuracy and precision of the ignition method. The round-robin test program is discussed, as well as the accuracy and precision values determined for the measured AC content and gradation using the ignition method. The results of the round-robin study indicate that the ignition method can measure the AC content of HMA mixtures with greater precision than solvent-extraction methods, without significantly affecting the gradation of the aggregate. This test method has shown excellent potential for replacing existing test methods for measuring asphalt content.

Currently, there is no industry standard test method for measuring dielectric properties of circuit board materials at frequencies greater than ~10 GHz. Various material vendors and test laboratories apply different approaches to determine these properties. It is common for these different approaches to yield varying values of key properties such as permittivity and loss tangent. The D-24C Task Group of IPC has developed this round-robin program to assess these various methods from the “bottom up” to determine if standardized methods can be agreed upon to provide the industry with more accurate and valid characteristics of dielectrics used in high-frequency and high-speed applications.

To implement the ignition method for both quality control and acceptance purposes in Florida, the State Materials Office of the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) carried out a round-robin study to determine the precision and accuracy of this procedure for local conditions. Twelve materials laboratories, including both public and private sectors throughout Florida, participated in the investigation. Each of the 12 participant laboratories received a total of 36 hot-mix asphalt (HMA) mixture samples for asphalt content determination and gradation analysis. Samples were prepared in accordance with FDOT specifications with six different types of aggregate and one type of asphalt cement. Six laboratories used one ignition tester brand and the remainder used a tester from a different manufacturer. The testers, similar in nature, both include an internally mounted load cell and an automated system for data collection and processing. The interlaboratory test data were collected and analyzed at the FDOT State Materials Office. The round-robin test program is described and the accuracy and precision of the ignition method on materials commonly used in HMA construction in the state of Florida are discussed.

This study aims to determine the effect of mindfulness training to reduce the stress levels of 7 students in SMK X Pundong who have moderate to severe stress levels. The stress level was measured using the DASS scale. This research is categorized into experimental research type with one group pretest-posttest design. The data obtained were then analyzed using the non-parametric Wilcoxon test method to see the difference between students’ stress levels before and after the intervention through the IBM SPSS Statistics 25 for windows program. The results showed that there were significant differences in students’ stress levels before and after the intervention was given with a value of p = 0.018 (p <0.05). This proves that mindfulness training can reduce the stress levels of students in class X.

Abstract. When one applies the discrete Fourier transform to analyze finite-length time series, discontinuities at the data boundaries will distort its Fourier power spectrum. In this paper, based on a rigid statistics framework, we present a new significance test method which can extract the intrinsic feature of a geophysical time series very well. We show the difference in significance level compared with traditional Fourier tests by analyzing the Arctic Oscillation (AO) and the Nino3.4 time series. In the AO, we find significant peaks at about 2.8, 4.3, and 5.7 yr periods and in Nino3.4 at about 12 yr period in tests against red noise. These peaks are not significant in traditional tests.

Edremit Ataturk House has been restored under international restoration principles. Due to its importance, a systematic study was carried out to prevent the building from suffering damage. The current situation of the building was investigated by using slightly destructive and non-destructive test methods. Flat-jack and shear tests were used in order to identify the mechanical properties of masonry walls according to the ASTM standards. The operational modal analysis test method was used in order to understand its dynamic characteristics. After the diagnosis phase, a finite element model was prepared and calibrated according to the in-situ test results. The reinforcement studies were performed according to the finite element modal analysis results. Finally, the differences between the dynamic properties of the structure were evaluated by vibration tests before and after the restoration works.

For unidirectional thermoplastic composite materials, it is preferable to use tab-less specimens in tensile tests owing to the low adhesive performance between specimens and tabs, as well as considerable warpage in laminates due to compression molding. In this study, round-robin tests are performed for unidirectional laminates in the 0° and 90° directions by two types of thermoplastic composites – carbon/polyamide 6 and carbon/polypropylene. The purpose of the round-robin test is to examine the difference between tab-bonded and tab-less specimens. Statistical analyses determined the degree to which tab-less specimens influenced their evaluation of the mechanical performance. In addition, from the detailed experiments, precisely controlled gripping force, fine roughness of grip surfaces, and a few inserted abrasive papers had significant impact on the 0° tensile strength of tab-less specimens. Based on the results, 0° tab-less strength of the proposed gripping method was shown to be almost equal to that of tab-bonded specimens recommended by the present tensile test standard.
