In the present paper we consider the magneto-thermo-elastic wave produced by a thermal shock in a perfectly conducting elastic half-space. Here the Lord-Shulman theory of thermoelasticity [1] is used to account for the interaction between the elastic and thermal fields. The solution obtained in analytical form reduces to those of Kaliski and Nowacki [2] when the coupling between the temperature and strain fields and the relaxation time are neglected. The results also agree with those of Massalas and DaLamangas [3] in absence of the thermal relaxation time.

AbstractThe present study deals with the reflection of SV-waves at a free surface in the presence of magnetic field, initial stress, voids and gravity. When an SV-wave incident on the free surface of an elastic half space, two damped P-waves and an SV-wave are reflected. Among these waves, P-waves are only affected by magnetic fields whereas SV-waves are influenced by both, initial stress and magnetic fields. Effect of gravity is negligible whereas voids played a significant role. These observations can be helpful for seismology and earthquake sciences.

This research article deals with the determination of magnetohydrodynamic steady flow of three combile nanofluids (Jefferey, Maxwell, and Oldroyd-B) over a stretched surface. The surface is considered to be linear. The Cattaneo–Christov heat flux model was considered necessary to study the relaxation properties of the fluid flow. The influence of homogeneous-heterogeneous reactions (active for auto catalysts and reactants) has been taken in account. The modeled problem is solved analytically. The impressions of the magnetic field, Prandtl number, thermal relaxation time, Schmidt number, homogeneous–heterogeneous reactions strength are considered through graphs. The velocity field diminished with an increasing magnetic field. The temperature field diminished with an increasing Prandtl number and thermal relaxation time. The concentration field upsurged with the increasing Schmidt number which decreased with increasing homogeneous-heterogeneous reactions strength. Furthermore, the impact of these parameters on skin fraction, Nusselt number, and Sherwood number were also accessible through tables. A comparison between analytical and numerical methods has been presented both graphically and numerically.

In the probe limit, we study the holographic p-wave phase transition in the Gauss–Bonnet gravity via numerical and analytical methods. Concretely, we study the influences of the external magnetic field on the Maxwell complex vector model in the five-dimensional Gauss–Bonnet–AdS black hole and soliton backgrounds, respectively. For the two backgrounds, the results show that the magnetic field enhances the superconductor phase transition in the case of the lowest Landau level, while the increasing Gauss–Bonnet parameter always hinders the vector condensate. Moreover, the Maxwell complex vector model is a generalization of the SU(2) Yang–Mills model all the time. In addition, the analytical results backup the numerical results. Furthermore, this model might provide a holographic realization for the QCD vacuum instability.

The propagation of transient waves in a homogeneous, isotropic, linearly elastic half space excited by a traveling normal point load is investigated. The load is suddenly applied and then it moves rectilinearly at a constant speed along the free surface. The displacements are derived for the interior of the half space and for all load speeds. Wave-front expansions are obtained from the exact solution, in addition to results pertaining to the steady-state displacement field. The limit case of zero load speed is considered, yielding new results for Lamb’s point load problem.
