How are historical, practice-oriented, and critical research perspectives in management affected by digitalization? In this article, we describe and discuss how two digital research approaches can be applied and how they may influence the future directions of management scholarship and education: Social Media Analytics and digital archives. Our empirical illustrations suggest that digitalization generates productivity improvements for scholars, making it possible to undertake research that was previously too laborious. It also enables researchers to pay closer attention to detail while still being able to abstract and generalize. We therefore argue that digitalization contributes to a historical turn in management, that practice-oriented research can be conducted with less effort and improved quality and that micro-level data in the form of digital archives and online contents make it easier to adopt critical perspectives.

The book then presents its philosophical case for an ontological turn. It begins by directly questioning the modern philiosophical orthodoxies which sustain conventional historical practice. Enlisting the help of numerous prominent authorities in a wide array of fields, from posthumanist studies to quantum physics, it directly challenges modernity’s dualist metaphysical and ontological certainties from a variety of different critical perspectives. Then drawing together ideas from some of the most influential of these “ethnographers of the present,” it goes on to propose an alternative, non-dualist metaphysics, a “meta-metaphysics” that would authorize us to to take an ontological turn in our practice, whereby we can historicize each past way of life on its own terms, in its own distinct world of experience.

This commentary aims to address the field of social robots both in terms of the global situation and research perspectives. It has four polarities. First, it revisits the evolutions in robotics, which, starting from collaborative robotics, has led to the diffusion of social robots. Second, it illustrates the main fields in the employment of social robots in rehabilitation and assistance in the elderly and handicapped and in further emerging sectors. Third, it takes a look at the future directions of the research development both in terms of clinical and technological aspects. Fourth, it discusses the opportunities and limits, starting from the development and clinical use of social robots during the COVID-19 pandemic to the increase of ethical discussion on their use.

Barcodes and barcode scanners transformed the grocery industry in the 1970s. I use store-level data from the 1972, 1977, and 1982 Census of Retail Trade, matched to data on store scanner installations, to estimate scanners' effect on labor productivity. I find that scanners increased a store's labor productivity, on average, by approximately 4.5 percent in the first few years. The effect was larger in stores carrying more packaged products, consistent with the presence of network externalities. Short-run gains were small relative to fixed costs, suggesting that the impediment to widespread adoption of the new technology was profitability, not coordination problems. This article forecasts the future values using stochastic forecasting models for specified fitted values by using downscaling data, which are collected from Sathanoor Dam gauging site. Due to the demand of the water in this current scenario, this study analyzed the perdays Discharge level data collected from Sathanoor Dam where the outcome is predicted in a downscaling data sets in hydrology, extended Thomas –Fiering, ARIMA, MLE models, is used to estimate perdays discharge level data of each month. The error estimates RMSE, MAE of forecasts from above models is compared to identify the most suitable approaches for forecasting trend analysis.

We have some serious work to do. Far too many people lead miserable lives because they lack the most basic necessities to deal with hunger, thirst, shelter, disease, or disability. In addition, the prosperity currently enjoyed by many of us may not be taken for granted in the future. The experts in this book have identified a range of breakthroughs that are urgently required if we are to improve the fate of humanity in the decades ahead and look to the future with greater confidence. There will be some hard choices, and some lines of research will probably need to be pursued at the expense of others. Industry should change and adopt new strategies. And we as a society should accept and foster that change. The evolution of technology, industry, and society is a complex process full of feedback mechanisms and surprises. It’s vital that we understand the most promising ways to facilitate the necessary changes of direction. The technologies proposed in this book aren’t straightforward; otherwise, they would have been identified much sooner. The days when you could produce a brilliant invention in your garden shed have largely gone. Anyone wishing to improve the current state of technology needs a solid pedigree and will need to labor long and hard with a group of dedicated colleagues, in many cases relying on extremely expensive equipment. Breakthroughs demand the stamina, laborious testing, and inspiration of countless scientists and engineers. Hundreds of thousands of design hours can go into a new microchip, car, or power-generation technique. Developing new technology is a complex process. That complexity is exemplified by the development of the laser. Einstein predicted the principle of stimulated emission on which lasers are based long before World War II. But it was many more decades before working lasers were created and longer still before they were put to practical use. Once we had them, however, we found we could use them in new scientific instruments that opened up fresh areas of research.
