Ships have to maintain many auxiliary machineries with high power consumption, and these machineries generally run continuously for long hours. One of the auxiliary machineries that consume a lot of power in ships is the air compressor. These air compressors are especially important as they are used at the start of the main engine and generator diesel engines. Therefore, a suitable selection of these compressors is vital, in terms of technical requirement, energy efficiency, and cost effectiveness. The main focus of this study is to decide the optimum compressor in terms of all technical and operational criteria. In this context, using the fuzzy VIKOR method, five different and worldwide known compressor brands are listed in terms of selection by evaluating seven different and important criteria. These criteria were evaluated by five experts working as technical directors in shipping companies without being informed of each other. Briefly, this study aims to assist shipping companies in choosing the optimal compressor to suit their primary operating goals, considering the navigating routes and conditions of commercial ships. We believe that it is possible to close this gap in the literature and to select the optimum compressor according to the technical and operational needs.

Tugboats have a very critical role in numerous fields of the maritime sector. There are many types of tugboats with different characteristics that give superior results in different operations. Choosing the most suitable tugboat type for the desired operation is a multi-criteria problem that requires expertise. The design features of the tugboat and the propulsion system are important features used for classification. In addition, operational, environmental, and financial factors are also of considerable importance. In this article, determined criteria for tugboats classified according to their propulsion systems have been evaluated by subject-matter experts through a questionnaire. Fuzzy Shannon Entropy has been used to calculate the weights of each determined criterion. Then, fuzzy VIKOR was selected to rank the alternatives due to good compatibility with Entropy and the ability to adequately distinguish the table values that compose the ranking. Finally, the most suitable tugboat type was chosen in accordance with these results.

In recent times, there have been developments in the maritime industry that underscore the need to optimise operations to yield maximum productivity. Apart from this, stakeholders in this industry have also advocated improvements in seaport operations' critical areas. However, there is no known study in which the relationship between performance criteria and seaport operation measures is investigated. This study proposes a framework for selecting operation measures for the maritime industry. It uses stakeholders' expectations for operational criteria and fuzzy logic to design the framework. Nine criteria were considered in the framework, while Fuzzy VIKOR (VIsekriterijumska optimizacija I KOmpromisno Resenje) and fuzzy Shannon entropy were incorporated into it. The framework's applicability was tested using information that was obtained from Tin can port, Lagos, Nigeria. During this process, hinterland traffic diversion (A1), congestion pricing (A2), off-dock container yards (A3), Fast rail shuttles (A4), expanded rail connections (A5) were considered as alternatives for seaport operational measures. When the developed framework was used to analyse the collected information from Tin Can port, Lagos, Nigeria, the fuzzy VIKOR index ranked the alternatives as A1 » A2 » A3 » A5 » A4. Therefore, this study's insights show that mathematical models can be used to make informed seaports decisions.

SUMUT Bank is one of the Banks in Indonesia with the name of the company PT. Regional Development Bank of North Sumatra. The North Sumatra Bank has branches in each region in North Sumatra both in the district and in the sub-district, and each of these branches is led by a branch leader or branch head. The head of this branch is responsible for the reversal of the Bank being led. The best and most accomplished branch heads deserve more and more awards. The selection of the best branch heads is selected transparently and structured in the hope that it can be a motivation for all branch heads to be able to further improve the quality and service of the Bank they lead. Making the best branch head selection done manually will take a long time and tends to be less transparent and structured. One solution so that the implementation of the selection can be carried out easily and quickly, it requires a Decision Support System that can provide consistency of assessment. In this study the method used is the VIKOR method (Visekriterijumsko Kompromisno Rangiranje). This method makes cracking on alternatives based on criteria that have been determined with an ideal compromise solution or the best solution, so that this system can later be beneficial for the SUMUT Bank to get the title in determining the best branch head. Keywords: Decision Support System, North Sumatra Bank, Branch Head, Vikor

Air compression represents around 20% of industrial total electric power demand, especially in chemicals and process companies. Few technical studies related with energy optimization of air compressed networks are reported in the specialized literature, in contrast, in natural gas and steam networks have been widely analyzed. Pressure, temperature and flow monitoring of air compression is not enough for implementation of energy optimization models, for this reason authors have developed a transit conditions model which takes into account air supply equipments and air compressed process requirements. This paper presents a decision support system for the scheduling selection of a set of air compressors in an industrial plant based on energy demand minimization. Several constraints must be taken in consideration during the optimization process, this can be desegregate in two types, the first set of constrains was used for simulate the operation of scroll, screw and centrifuges compressors, the second based in graph an node theory and contain the mathematical transit conditions model of supply air network topology, for the complexity of the problem the use of a genetic algorithm to search an optimal combination was necessary.

Greenhouse gas shall be reduced from shipping sector. For that purpose the regulation of EEDI (energy efficiency design index for new ships) and SEEMP (ship energy efficiency management plan) have been entry into force from 2013. In order to improve the energy efficiency in ship operation it is necessary to predict the fuel consumption accurately. In actual seas the wave effect is the dominant component of the external forces. In particular it is well known the bow shape above water affects the added resistance in waves. To reflect the effect of the bow shape a method which takes into account the result of simplified tank tests is proposed here. Using the results of tank tests the effect of the bow shape above water can be evaluated with accuracy as well as with robustness. Regarding to the fuel consumption it should be evaluated by combining the ship hydrodynamic performance with the engine characteristics. Especially the operating limits of the main engine, such as the torque limit and the over load protection, are affected to the ship hydrodynamic performance. In rough weather condition the revolution of the main engine will be reduced to be below the operating limits of the engine. This causes the large decrease of ship speed. To prevent the increase of fuel consumption, a control system by Fuel Index as an index of fuel injection has been applied to some ships. The calculation method for the fuel consumption by using Fuel Index is presented. In this paper following contents are reported; 1) development of a calculation method for the added resistance due to waves combined with the simplified tank tests in short waves, 2) comparison of the calculation method with onboard measurement, 3) development of a calculation method for the fuel consumption considering the engine operating mode in actual seas and 4) comparison of the method with onboard measurement of a container ship. From these investigations the availability of the present method is confirmed.

Site selection of waste-to-energy (WtE) plant is critically important in the whole life cycle. Some research has been launched in the WtE plant site selection, but there is still a serious problem called Not In My Back Yard (NIMBY) effect that needs to be solved. To solve the problem, an improved multigroup VIKOR method is proposed to choose the optimal site and compromised sites. In the proposed method, the public satisfaction is fully considered where the public is invited as an evaluation group far more than creating general indicators to represent the public acceptance. First of all, an elaborate criteria system is built to evaluate site options comprehensively and the weights of criteria are identified by Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method. Then, the interval 2-tuple linguistic information is adopted to assess the ratings for the established criteria. The interval 2-tuple linguistic ordered weighted averaging (ITL-OWA) operator is utilized to aggregate the opinions of evaluation committee while the opinions of the public are aggregated using weighted average operator. Finally, a case from south China which shows the computational procedure and the effectiveness of the proposed method is proved. Last but not least, a sensitivity analysis is conducted by comparing the results with different weights of evaluation group assessments.
