This study was designed to identify key components that affect teenagers’ intent to text while driving by developing and administering a survey to identify psychological profiles of teenagers who are more or less likely to comply with TWD laws. Such profiles may be used to create unique TWD law compliance training protocols designed to address specific teenager characteristics. The method included the administration of a 108-item Likert-scale survey to young drivers age 15 through 21. The survey consisted of a set of demographic questions; a Big Five personality assessment; and items to assess attitudes, norms, and perceptions associated with TWD. The results of the regression analysis performed on the data indicate the following factors potentially impact teenager TWD behavior: perceived behavioral control, subjective norm, and TWD concealment attitude.

Background: The food industry in Malaysia has experienced significant development, especially in the halal food sector. The halal food industry is a market segment involved with food items and beverages that are strictly prepared according to rules underlined by the Islamic dietary law. In addition, the concept of halal covers not only Syariah law, but also hygiene, sanitation and food safety requirements. Malaysia has become a major global halal hub in delivering halal food to local and international levels. The significant development of halal food industry in Malaysia creates significant job opportunities for new graduating students.  Therefore, this study aims to evaluate factors that influence student intention to choose a career for the halal food industry in Malaysia. Research Methodology: This study using a quantitative research method with questionnaire development in assessing the factors that influence intention of students to involve in halal food industry as their future career. The underpinning theory is Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB). The independent variables are Attitude (A), Subjective Norm (SN) and Perceived Behavioral Control (PBC). This study developed four questions for each variable. Unit of analysis for respondents is university students in Malaysia. The sample size is 40 students that have an interest in working for halal food industry in Malaysia. The correlation analysis was analyzed using Pearson Correlation coefficient analysis. Meanwhile, the causal relationship was analyzed using multiple regression analysis. Results: The skewness values for four variables in this study are between -1 and +1 that indicates normal distribution. The value of Cronbach’s alpha statistical test for measuring internal reliability is larger than 0.7 for all four variables. Therefore, four constructs exhibit good reliability that indicates the suitability of internal consistency. Next, the value of R-squared for model fit in this study is 0.675 that indicates a good model fit that explained 67.5% of variance in dependent variable. Multiple regression analysis indicates Attitudes (A), Subjective Norm (SN) and Perceived Behavioral Control (PBC) are significant in predicting the value of Intention (I) to select a career in halal food industry. Conclusion: This study supported the hypothesis that indicates there is a positive and significant relationship of Attitude (A), Subjective Norm (SN) and Perceived Behavioral Control (PBC) towards Intention (I). The findings of this study add value to theoretical knowledge of career selection among university students. At the same time, this study provides guideline for government in developing better policy in cultivating interest among university students to be highly involved in the halal food industry.

This chapter discusses the factors that influence the decision of Guangdong residents to purchase Chinese-brand automobiles. Based on the well-known theory of planned behavior, this chapter builds a predictive model to explore the determinants of the intention of Guangdong residents to buy Chinese-brand automobiles. The findings reported in this chapter can help automobile manufacturers and distributors to formulate effective business strategies. According to 125 sets of figures, multiple regression analysis indicates that high correlation exist between two independent variables (attitude toward behavior and perceived behavioral control) and dependent variable, whereas subjective norm does not have significant correlation with intention. The authors make several corresponding managerial suggestions based on the results.

Background Cervical Cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths among Ethiopian women. Despite many interventions were conducted, there is low uptake of cervical cancer screening services. Also, limited evidence was available on the women’s intention and its predictors towards cervical cancer screening. Therefore, this study was aimed at determining the intention and predicators of behavioral intention toward cervical cancer screening. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted in the Gomma district, Jimma, Ethiopia from August 1–30, 2019. The total sample sizes were 422 and a systematic random sampling technique was employed to select the samples. Data were collected through interviews using a structured questionnaire guide. Data were entered in epidata, and exported and analyzed using SPSS version 20.0 software. Descriptive, correlation, and multicollinearity analysis were done. Also, simple and multiple linear regression analysis were performed to identify the predictors for behavioral intention. The p-value<0.05 was used to declare a significant association. Result The response rate was 382 (90.5%). The mean age of the participants was of 26.45 (SD = 4.76). Direct attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control had a mean score of 16.78 (SD = 2.87), 15.61(SD = 1.92), and 12.86 (SD = 4.85), respectively. The intention has a mean score of 14.52 (SD = 4.01). From regression analysis, direct attitude (B = 0.346, p<0.001), direct subjective norm (B = 0.288, p = 0.008), direct perceived behavioral control (B = 0.132, p = 0.002) indirect attitude (B = 0.015, p = 0.019) and the indirect perceived behavioral control (B = 0.132, p = 0.002) were statistically significant with intention. Conclusion From this study, it was understood that women’s intention towards cervical cancer screening was low. The predictors were the direct and indirect attitude, direct and indirect subjective norm, direct and indirect perceived behavioral control. This calls a need to develop strategies and take action to improve the attitude of women and their influential peoples and increase sense of control to improve their intention to screen for cervical cancer. Moreover, health care providers should have to conduct social and behavioral change communication to improve women’s health seeking behavior towards cervical cancer screening applying the concept of theory of planned behavior.

Behavioral finance has been widely applied in the financial realm from psychological perspectives focusing on herding and disposition effects. However, little research is devoted to the influences of personality traits on the stock investment intentions of individuals. This study extends the theory of planned behavior incorporating the big five personality taxonomies to investigate the effects of the personality traits of individual investors on stock investment intention. Utilizing partial least squares based on structural equation modeling techniques with a sample of 385 subjects, empirical results indicate that the stock investment intentions of individuals are significantly affected by subjective norm, attitude, and perceived behavioral control, and subjective norm significantly affects attitude. Individuals with open and agreeable personalities tend to have influences on subjective norm. Neurotic individuals tend to have negative attitudes toward stock investment. The perceived behavioral control of individuals regarding stock investment is influenced by the personality traits of agreeableness, extroversion, conscientiousness, and openness. Prior stock trading experiences significantly affect the relationships between attitude and stock investment intention, as well as on the linkages between extroversion and subjective norm, attitude, and perceived behavioral control. This study concludes with the discussion of the findings, with insights into theory and managerial implications.

This study aims at exploring the behavioral intention of local tourist in Kupang City to choose Pasar Malam as their culinary tourism destination. The Theory of Planned Behavior theories have been chosen as the theoretical basis of the study.Prior to conducting a questionnaire survey, a pilot survey was conducted to test the questionnaire’s reliability. The final survey was conducted with 103 visitors during their visitation in Pasar Malam. Findings: Results obtained from the respondents allowed to test the hypotheses proposed in the study. A multiple regression analysis was carried out in order to test the hypotheses and the study findings reveal the relationship among the variables. Results indicated that the attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control were found to be determinants of behavioral intention. In addition, perceived behavioral control became the most significant influence behavioral intention. The implications of the study findings are discussed.

This study focuses on examining the impact of three components of materialism on green purchase intention for urban consumers in Vietnam, an emerging economy. An extended Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) is applied as the conceptual framework for this study. The hypotheses are empirically tested using survey data obtained from consumers in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam. The regression results show support for most of our hypotheses. The findings indicate that two out of three facets of materialism are significant predictors of green purchase intention. Specifically, success is found to be negatively related to purchase intention, while happiness is related positively to the intention. All three antecedents in the TPB model, including attitude towards green purchase, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control are also found to have positive impacts on purchase intention. The research findings are discussed and implications for managers and policy makers are provided.

The COVID-19 pandemic forced people worldwide to implement a series of preventive hygiene and distancing measures that have significantly altered their way of life. This study examined an adapted version of the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) on adopting preventive behavior against COVID-19. Data was collected using a web survey completed by 1004 college students a few weeks after the first wave of infections in Chile. Our findings show that the subjective norm was the strongest predictor of adopting preventive behaviors, followed by the knowledge level and perceived behavioral control. Contrary to expectations, we found no evidence that an attitude towards preventive action predicted actual adoption of preventive behavior against COVID-19. However, knowledge and social norms play a significant role. We discuss implications for effective risk communication.

Researchers and practitioners have long been concerned about detrimental effects of socially desirable responding on the structure and criterion validity of personality assessments. The current research examined the effect of reducing evaluative item content of a Big Five personality assessment on test structure and criterion validity. We developed a new public domain measure of the Big Five called the Less Evaluative Five Factor Inventory (LEFFI), adapted from the standard 50-item IPIP NEO, and intended to be less evaluative. Participants ( n = 3164) then completed standard (IPIP) and neutralized (LEFFI) measures of personality. Criteria were also collected, including academic grades, age, sex, smoking, alcohol consumption, exercise, protesting, religious worship, music preferences, dental hygiene, blood donation, other-rated communication styles, other-rated HEXACO personality, and cognitive ability (ICAR). Evaluativeness of items was reduced in the neutralized measure. Cronbach's alpha and test-retest reliability were maintained. Correlations between the Big Five were reduced in the neutralized measure and criterion validity was similar or slightly reduced in the neutralized measure. The large sample size and use of objective criteria extend past research. The study also contributes to debates about whether the general factor of personality and agreement with socially desirable content reflect substance or bias.


Halal transportation services is one of the crucial components of producing Halal products. Since Halal is unique and involves elaborate regulations and executions, therefore it requires huge investment. Like any other supply chain, the transportation cost will be transferred to the end users, normally the customers, thus increasing the price of final products. It is notably common to find studies done on Muslim customers and their preference on Halal products, however, studies on Muslims preferences towards Halal transportation could still be considered as novel. By adopting the Theory of Planned Behavior and religiosity; and by taking into account the moderating effect of knowledge, this study aims to identify the factors that lead to the customers’ willingness to pay for the Halal transportation cost. Using a purposive sampling method, the data was collected among Muslim consumers in a prominent shopping complex in Malaysia and was analyzed using Smart Partial Least Squares (PLS). Based on the finding, it is shown that the attitude and perceived behavioral control gave a positive relationship with the willingness to pay for Halal transportation. Meanwhile, subjective norm and religiosity were on the opposite as there were both hold an insignificant effect towards the willingness to pay for the Halal transportation. Knowledge has moderated the relationship between attitude and willingness to pay for Halal transportation, but not for the relationship between subjective norm and perceived behavioral control. It is expected that this study could provide a better understanding of Muslim consumers’ behavior on purchasing for Halal transportation, as well as other Halal supply chain activities.

A large number of muslim population in Indonesia have an impact on the development of muslim fashion in Indonesia and led to the emergence of muslim communities such as Hijabers Surabaya community. Hijabers Surabaya community also linked himself with sharia, such as cooperation with the islamic banking in which all community members will get free sharia account when joining the community.This research focuses on the behavior and attitude of community members towards the use of sharia account by using the theory of planned behavior perspective. This study used Structural Equation Model. Total participants in this study amounted to 150 members. The results obtained in this study is: (1) Behavior belief affect the attitude toward behavior. (2) Normative belief not effect the subjective norm. (3) Motivation to comply not effect the subjective norm. (4) Control belief affect the perceived behavioral control. (5) Attitude toward behavior affect the intention to use. (6) Subjective norm not affect the intention to use. (7) Perceived behavioral control not affect to the intention to use.
