To analyze the fractal form of the vascular network in the human circulatory system, the optimal transport effect has been achieved from the point of view of biological evolution. The blood flow mathematical models based on the fractal theory for capillary network and arteriole–capillary vascular fractal network were established using theory derivation, and the blood flow characteristics, dynamic flow resistance effects, and vascular fractal physiology property based on the fractal porous medium theory for the coronary artery circulatory network were analyzed under the consideration of some influencing factors, namely, non-Newtonian fluid characteristics of blood, hemocoagulation and embolization effect in capillaries, and plasma mass flow effects. Moreover, the Poiseuille flow equation is modified by introducing the correction function, and the flow model of blood in the vascular network is established. Obviously, the relationship characteristics between blood flow and bifurcation grade in fractal vascular, fractal dimension in the arteriole–capillary vascular network, fractal dimensions of the diameter of capillary tubular diameter, fractal dimensions of capillary blood vessels, blood Casson yield stress, and ratio of red blood cell radius to capillary diameter can be obtained. And the relationship characteristics between blood flow resistance and ratio of erythrocyte radius to capillary diameter, ratios of the distance between adjacent red blood cells to the radius of red cells, and bifurcation grade can be obtained. Finally, the clinical verification tests were accomplished to verify the theory is worthy of authenticity and rationality where the curve tendencies are very similar with those obtained by numerical simulations based on the theoretical models and experimental test showed that the theoretical calculation and simulation analysis of blood circulation system of fractal vascular network were reasonable and applicable by means of experimental relative method because of the maximum relative error is less than 10%, whatever fractal dimension m changes under different conditions.

Due to the complex and chaotic characteristics of elecrtospun nanofiber membrane, fractal theory is a suitable mathematical framework. Using the fractal theory, Matlab and other computer software in Mathematics, the fractal properties of pore distribution of elecrtospun nanofiber membrane and the relationship between the fractal dimension and the physical properties of nonwovens are studied. Thirty samples were produced by using polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)on the DXES-01 automatic electrostatic spinning machine; BMP images of 30 samples were obtained by TM-1000 table scanning electron microscope; The scanning electron micro-scope images were grayed by digital image processing technology, and the average pore width of the samples was further calculated by Matlab software from the gray value matrix; G-P algorithm is used to calculate the fractal dimension of pore width distribution; The relationship between air flow resistance and the fractal dimension of pore width distribution of electrospun nanofiber membrane was analyzed. Finally, the correlation fractal dimension of the average pore width of electrospun nanofiber membrane has a quadratic function relation with the air flow resistance; The correlation fractal dimension of the average pore width obtained is consistent with the fractal dimension of porosity obtained by Ting Wang under the meaning of the relative error less than 10%is the same.

AbstractTo investigate the influence of the fissure morphology on the dynamic mechanical properties of the rock and the crack propagation, a drop hammer impact test device was used to conduct impact failure tests on sandstones with different fissure numbers and fissure dips, simultaneously recorded the crack growth after each impact. The box fractal dimension is used to quantitatively analyze the dynamic change in the sandstone cracks and a fractal model of crack growth over time is established based on fractal theory. The results demonstrate that under impact test conditions of the same mass and different heights, the energy absorbed by sandstone accounts for about 26.7% of the gravitational potential energy. But at the same height and different mass, the energy absorbed by the sandstone accounts for about 68.6% of the total energy. As the fissure dip increases and the number of fissures increases, the dynamic peak stress and dynamic elastic modulus of the fractured sandstone gradually decrease. The fractal dimensions of crack evolution tend to increase with time as a whole and assume as a parabolic. Except for one fissure, 60° and 90° specimens, with the extension of time, the increase rate of fractal dimension is decreasing correspondingly.

Several studies have shown that fractal theory can be used to analyze the morphology of aggregate materials in designing the gradation. However, the question arises whether a fractal dimension can actually represent a single aggregate gradation. This study, which is a part of a grand research to determine aggregate gradation based on known asphalt mixture specifications, is performed to clarify the aforementioned question. To do so, two steps of methodology were proposed in this study, that is, step 1 is to determine the fractal characteristics using 3 aggregate gradations (i.e. gradations near upper and lower bounds, and middle gradation); and step 2 is to back-calculate aggregate gradation based on fractal characteristics obtained using 2 scenarios, one-and multi-fractal dimension scenarios. The results of this study indicate that the multi-fractal dimension scenario provides a better prediction of aggregate gradation due to the ability of this scenario to better represent the shape of the original aggregate gradation. However, careful consideration must be observed when using more than two fractal dimensions in predicting aggregate gradation as it will increase the difficulty in developing the fractal characteristic equations.

The quality and assessment of a reservoir can be documented in details by the application of seismo magnetic power density. This research aims to calculate fractal dimension from the relationship among seismo magnetic power density, maximum seismo magnetic power density and wetting phase saturation and to approve it by the fractal dimension derived from the relationship among inverse pressure head * pressure head and wetting phase saturation. Two equations for calculating the fractal dimensions have been employed. The first one describes the functional relationship between wetting phase saturation, seismo magnetic power density, maximum seismo magnetic power density and fractal dimension. The second equation implies to the wetting phase saturation as a function of pressure head and the fractal dimension. Two procedures for obtaining the fractal dimension have been utilized. The first procedure was done by plotting the logarithm of the ratio between seismo magnetic power density and maximum seismo magnetic power density versus logarithm wetting phase saturation. The slope of the first procedure = 3- Df (fractal dimension). The second procedure for obtaining the fractal dimension was determined by plotting the logarithm (inverse of pressure head and pressure head) versus the logarithm of wetting phase saturation. The slope of the second procedure = Df -3. On the basis of the obtained results of the fabricated stratigraphic column and the attained values of the fractal dimension, the sandstones of the Shajara reservoirs of the Shajara Formation were divided here into three units

The paper presents the fractal dimension formula of distribution of asphalt mixture aggregate diameter by the deducing mass fractal characteristics function. Taking AC-20 and SMA-20 as examples, selected 6 groups of representative grading curves within the grading envelope proposed by the present specification, and calculated their fractal dimensions. The asphalt mixture gradation has fractal dimension D (D∈(1,3)), and the fractal of continuous gradation is single while the fractal of gap-gradation shows multi-fractal with 4.75 as the dividing point. Fractal dimension of aggregate gradation of asphalt mixture reflect the structure characteristics of aggregate distribution, that is, finer is aggregate, bigger is the fractal dimension.

Legs are the contact point of humans during walking. In fact, leg muscles react when we walk in different conditions (such as different speeds and paths). In this research, we analyze how walking path affects leg muscles’ reaction. In fact, we investigate how the complexity of muscle reaction is related to the complexity of path of movement. For this purpose, we employ fractal theory. In the experiment, subjects walk on different paths that have different fractal dimensions and then we calculate the fractal dimension of Electromyography (EMG) signals obtained from both legs. The result of our analysis showed that the complexity of EMG signal increases with the increment of complexity of path of movement. The conducted statistical analysis also supported the result of analysis. The method of analysis used in this research can be further applied to find the relation between complexity of path of movement and other physiological signals of humans such as respiration and Electroencephalography (EEG) signal.

The fracture has great impact on the flow behavior in fractured reservoirs. Fracture traces are usually self-similar and scale-independent, which makes the fractal theory become a powerful tool to characterize fracture. To obtain three-dimensional (3D) digital rocks reflecting the properties of fractured reservoirs, we first generate discrete fracture networks by stochastic modeling based on the fractal theory. These fracture networks are then added to the existing digital rocks of rock matrixes. We combine two low-permeable cores as rock matrixes with a group of discrete fracture networks with fractal characteristics. Various types of fractured digital rocks are obtained by adjusting different fracture parameters. Pore network models are extracted from the 3D fractured digital rock. Then the permeability is predicted by Darcy law to investigate the impacts of fracture properties to the absolute permeability. The permeability of fractured rock is subject to exponential increases with fracture aperture. The relationship between the permeability and the fractal dimension of fracture centers is exponential, as well as the relationship between permeability and the fractal dimension of fracture lengths.

Foam fluid has found wide applications in oilfield development, such as profile control, water plugging, gas channeling control, fracturing, and so on. As a non-Newtonian fluid, the successful application of foam is significantly influenced by its structure. The foam texture, however, is complex and irregular, and becomes even more complicated in porous media by the boundary effects. Therefore, the description of dynamic foam structure is crucial and a quantitative description method for foam fluid is worth exploring. In this paper, the fractal characteristics of foam in porous media are verified and combined with foam microdisplacement experiment, and the fractal rule of foam is found. The relationship between fractal dimension and pressure is also discussed. The results show that foam has dynamic fractal characteristics during transport in porous media and the box-counting fractal dimension ranges from 1 to 2. Furthermore, the dynamic change of foam fractal dimension during transport in porous media could be divided into three stages. In the first stage when no foam forms, the fractal dimension is about 2; in the second unsteady foam stage, the fractal dimension is reduced from 1.9 to 1.6; the last one is the steady stage and the fractal dimension is almost constant (about 1.6). Besides, the fractal dimension of foam fluid is closely related to displacement pressure. Low pressure corresponds to higher fractal dimension, and high pressure corresponds to lower fractal dimension. Pressure is negatively linearly correlated with fractal dimension. These results are expected to enrich the understanding of the foam dynamic characteristics in their advanced applications.

The work is intended to summarize the recent progress in the work of fractal theory in packaging material to provide important insights into applied research on fractal in packaging materials. The fractal analysis methods employed for inorganic materials such as metal alloys and ceramics, polymers, and their composites are reviewed from the aspects of fractal feature extraction and fractal dimension calculation methods. Through the fractal dimension of packaging materials and the fractal in their preparation process, the relationship between the fractal characteristic parameters and the properties of packaging materials is discussed. The fractal analysis method can qualitatively and quantitatively characterize the fractal characteristics, microstructure, and properties of a large number of various types of packaging materials. The method of using fractal theory to probe the preparation and properties of packaging materials is universal; the relationship between the properties of packaging materials and fractal dimension will be a critical trend of fractal theory in the research on properties of packaging materials.

A fractal model to simulate cement paste internal pore structure, and on this basis deduce that fractal dimension is D and the corresponding pore is r, the relationship between porosity is P. MIP was measured test. Then calculated the different ages of the fractal dimension of cement and concrete compressive strength, tensile strength and permeability coefficient. The results showed that: compressive strength, permeability and fractal dimension has a good correlation. Whey in cement in the process of hydration of cement products continue to fill the pores, making the compressive strength increased 70%, permeability is declining.
