Chemical investigation of the roots of Glycyrrhiza uralensis resulted in the isolation of six oleanane-type triterpene glycosides (1 – 6), including one new saponin (1) and two (2 and 3) obtained as natural products for the first time. The new licorice saponin (1) was identified as 22β–acetoxylglycyrrhizin from [α]D, mass spectrometric, and UV, IR, and NMR spectroscopic data.. Full assignments of 1H and 13C-NMR data for compounds 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 were made for the first time according to 2D NMR methods.

A new mexicanolide and a new phragmalin, named 30α-hydroxyl xylogranatin A and xylogranatin E2, respectively, have been isolated from the seeds of a Chinese mangrove Xylocarpus granatum. Their structures were identified on the basis of spectroscopic data. Each of them has a 3-O-β -tigloyl group. The first complete assignments of 1H and 13C NMR data for these limonoids were achieved by means of 2D NMR techniques, including 1H-1H COSY, HSQC, HMBC and NOESY spectra

The investigation of a dichloromethane extract of flower heads of a Hungarian taxon of the Achillea millefolium group led to the isolation of three flavonoid aglycones, one triterpene, one germacranolide and five guaianolides. Their structures were elucidated by UV-VIS, EI- and CI-MS, 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectroscopic methods as well as by 2D-NMR studies and by selective 1D-NOE experiments. Besides apigenin, luteolin and centaureidin, β-sitosterol, 3β-hydroxy-11α,13-dihydro-costunolide, desacetylmatricarin, leucodin, achillin, 8α-angeloxy-leucodin and 8α-angeloxy-achillin were isolated. Both latter substances are reported here for the first time. Their NMR data were compared with those of the other guaianolides. The stereochemistry of 3β-hydroxy-11α,13-dihydro-costunolide was discussed and compared with data of the literature.

The detailed investigation of a methanolic extract of aerial parts of Achillea pannonica SCHEELE. within a chemotaxonomic study led to the isolation of 6 flavonoid glycosides. Besides rutin, apigenin-7-O-glucopyranoside, luteolin-7-O-glucopyranoside, apigenin-7-O-rutinoside and acacetin-7-O-rutinoside, an unusual flavondiglucoside was isolated. Its structure was established by UV, 1HNMR and 13C NMR spectroscopic methods including 2D-NMR techniques and ESI-MS as luteolin-7,4′-O-β-diglucoside. This substance is reported for the first time in the genus Achillea. Chemotaxonomic aspects are discussed briefly

One new dolabellane (1) and two known diterpenoids stolonidiol (2) and clavinflol B (3) have been isolated from the ethyl acetate extract of the Indonesian soft coral Anthelia sp. A new compound 1 exhibited a moderate cytotoxicity against NBT-T2 cells at 10 µg/mL, while known compounds 2 and 3 showed cytotoxicity at 1 and 0.5 µg/mL, respectively. Structure of the new compound 1 was elucidated by interpretation of NMR spectroscopic data (1D and 2D NMR data) and mass spectrometry (ESIMS data) as well as comparison with those of related ones. This finding should be useful for anti cancer drug development of the promising dolabellane-types compound.

AbstractAn indole alkaloid, 2-(5-hydroxy-1H-indol-3-yl)-2-oxo-acetic acid (1) isolated for the first time from nature, in addition to the nine known compounds 5-hydroxy-1H-indole-3-carboxylic acid methyl ester (2), alocasin B (3), hyrtiosin B (4), α-monopalmitin (5), 1-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(2S, 3R, 4E, 8Z)-2-[(2(R)-hydroctadecanoyl) amido]-4,8-octadecadiene-1,3-diol (6), 3-epi-betulinic acid (7), 3-epi-ursolic acid (8),β-sitosterol (9) andβ-sitosterol 3-O-β-D-glucoside (10) were isolated from the rhizomes ofAlocasia macrorrhiza(Araceae). Their structures were elucidated by 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic data. Of these compounds,6exhibited the strongest cytotoxicity against the four tested human cancer cell lines (IC50of about 10 µM against Hep-2 larynx cancer cells).

Studies on Conyza bonariensis (L.) Cronq. led to the isolation of two new glycosides trivially named as erigeside E and F (1–2), along with two new source compounds; benzyl-β-D-glucopyranoside (3) and 2-phenylethyl-β-D-glucopyranoside (4). Compounds 1, 3, and 4 are aromatic glycosides, while compound 2 is an alkyl glycoside. Their structures were elucidated through mass spectrometric, and 1D- and 2D-NMR spectroscopic techniques, including 1H NMR, 13C NMR, HMQC, HSQC and HMBC.

Chemical investigation of the n-BuOH-soluble fraction of the EtOH extract of the aerial part of Curcuma longa led to the isolation of 11 flavonol glycosides and one dihydroflavonol glucoside (1) via chromatography over Sephadex LH-20 and Lobar RP-18 columns. Although they are known, the 1H and 13C NMR data recorded in CD3OD rather than the common DMSO- d6 are doubly checked via extensive 2D NMR spectroscopic analyses, leading to some revisions of the reported data, especially for the glycon part.
