In today's rapidly changing market conditions, organizations need to be agile to gain a competitive market advantage. This chapter details the key points required for agility. Although there has been ongoing discussion whether finance and banking sector can be agile due to rigid structures, processes, and regulators, the chapter aims to prove the vital role of agility in banking sector with the case of Garanti Bank. Thanks to the case, the strategies both on the basis organization structure and marketing level that banks need to apply in agile transformation process, have been exemplified. As a result of the case, the importance of flexibility, speed, monitoring the latest trend, making quick decisions, and being customer-focused in the banking sector is stressed. On the other hand, banks are suggested to engage all their units, shareholders together with their customers in the process to have a more smooth translation.

Key Points Role for LIMK1 in GPIb-IX–dependent cPLA2 activation, TXA2 synthesis, and platelet activation independent of its role in actin polymerization. LIMK1 is important in arterial thrombosis in vivo but appears to be dispensable for hemostasis, suggesting a new antithrombotic target.

Abstract Background Abnormal neovascularization is the most common cause of blindness, and hypoxia alters tissue metabolism, function, and morphology. HIF-1α, the transcriptional activator of VEGF, has intricate mechanisms of nuclear translocation and activation, but its signal termination mechanisms remain unclear. Methods We investigated the role of polypyrimidine tract-binding protein-associated splicing factor (PSF) in cellular energy production, migration, and proliferation by targeting HIF-1α in vivo and in vitro PSF plasmids were transfected with liposome 2000 transfection reagent. Young C57/BL6J mice were kept in a hyperoxia environment, followed by indoor air, resulting in oxygen-induced retinopathy. Oxygen-induced retinopathy (OIR) animals were randomly divided into three groups: OIR group, OIR + vector group (OIR cubs treated with rAAV vector) and OIR + PSF group (OIR cubs treated with rAAV-PSF). Age-matched C57/BL6J mice were used as controls and exposed to constant normoxic conditions. The animals were executed and their pupils were subjected to subsequent experiments. The metabolic spectrum was analyzed by Seahorse XFe96 flux analyzer, and OCR and extracellular acidification rate were quantified at the same time. Results PSF ameliorated retinal neovascularization and corrected abnormal VEGF expression in mice with oxygen-induced retinopathy and reduced intra-retinal neovascularization in Vldlr − / − mice. PSF reprogrammed mitochondrial bioenergetics and inhibited the transition of endothelial cells after hypoxia, suggesting its involvement in pathological angiogenesis.Ectopic PSF expression inhibited hypoxia-induced HIF-1α activation in the nucleus by recruiting Hakai to the PSF/HIF-1α complex, causing HIF-1α inhibition. PSF knockdown increased hypoxia-stimulated HIF-1α reactions. These hypoxia-dependent processes may play a vital role in cell metabolism, migration, and proliferation. Thus, PSF is a potential treatment target in neovascularization-associated ophthalmopathy. Conclusion This is the first study showing that PSF inhibits HIF-1α via recruitment of Hakai, modulates mitochondrial oxidation and glycolysis, and downregulates VEGF expression under hypoxia. We propose a new HIF-1 α/Hakai regulatory mechanism that may play a vital role in the pathogenesis of neovascularization in ophthalmopathy. PSF-Hakai–HIF-1α signaling pathway under hypoxia condition. Schematic diagram showing that the PSF-Hakai–HIF-1α signaling pathway. Under hypoxia condition, PSF-Hakai complex regulate HIF-1α signaling, thus inhibiting downstream target gene VEGF, cell metabolism and angiogenesis eventually.

PurposeThis article explores social and educational responses to COVID-19 as seen through the lens of the Spanish education, in which professional capital and community is at the epicenter of the fight against the pandemic.Design/methodology/approachThis is a reflective and forward-thinking piece in which educators are presented as first responders to the crisis. The article is structured in four parts. First, the opportunities and barriers that COVID-19 is encountering in 21st-century education are commented on. Second, there is recognition of the need to be connected more than ever; and the vital role of networks. Third, the article discusses the effort to realize the maxim “not to leave anyone behind.” Fourth, the last section summarizes the key points related to the aspects to which education should devote its efforts in the coming months and years in Spain.FindingsThere is a set of reasons why the Spanish education system is extremely vulnerable to the consequences caused by COVID-19, and these include, among others: the high rates of socioeconomic segregation, of school dropouts and of academic failure; poor culture of networking and collaboration; overcrowded classrooms that hinders quality education; an obsolete curriculum; the consideration of education as a political currency; the need to strengthen bimodal education; and teachers' obligation to update their digital competences.Originality/valueThe article questions whether another education is possible beyond the pandemic and promotes a deep reflection in this particular context for practitioners and policymakers on which topics more attention could be focused during this time of turmoil.

Since the Rana Plaza tragedy in 2013, the Ready-Made Garment (RMG) industry, the most vital role-playing sector in the Bangladeshi economy, has faced many challenges, including labour unrest, image crisis, and pressure from local and international stakeholders to ensure worker safety. The tragic incident in 2013 prompted many initiatives for rehabilitation, the amendment of labour laws, the agreement on treaties for factory inspection, etc. As a consequence, national and international compliance bodies were set up to ensure a safe working environment in the RMG production sector in Bangladesh, such as The Accord, The Alliance, WRAP, BSCI, FLA, ETI, SAI, Sedex, etc. Furthermore, most advanced factories adopted their sustainability self-regulatory sets of norms to ensure a better working environment. Although these local and international compliance initiatives triggered notable changes in the sector, to the working environment and the worker safety, in particular, a major challenge arose for the producing factories to simultaneously comply with all the codes of conducts of the different compliance bodies. This study will present an overview of the most common practices required by the different codes of conducts in the Bangladeshi RMG sector and demonstrate how the different standardization organizations challenge the overall compliance in the RMG production processes in Bangladesh. An analysis of these challenges will also be given, finally leading to a list of eight key points that need to be solved by the producers to deal with the current problems in the industry.
