Abstract Background The goal of every emergency department is to provide the highest quality services in the shortest time using limited resources. However, occupational violence is so prevalent among pre-hospital paramedic personnel that some experts claim that it is impossible to find pre-hospital personnel without an experience of violence in the workplace. Therefore, it seems necessary to investigate the causes of violence among this population group and find ways to control it. Aim The present study aimed to investigate the Violence and influencing factors among paramedic pre-hospital personnel. Method This qualitative study was conducted to explore the views of a group of pre-hospital paramedic personnel (n = 45) selected through purposive sampling. The data was collected through in-depth and semi-structured interviews and analyzed using Graneheim and Lundman’s conventional content analysis methods. The trial version of MAXQDA 16 software was used to manage the coding process. Results Based on the results of the analysis of data collected from prehospital paramedic personnel, three main categories including: human factors, organizational factors, and environmental factors and 20 subcategories were detected. Conclusion If authorities neglect violence in the workplace and do not take serious actions to prevent it, violence and, more importantly, “hostility” will gradually prevail in the workplace. It also increases the stress and anxiety of staff and consequently severely deteriorates their job performance. Hence, authorities are strongly recommended not to ignore this issue and, instead, take measures, for instance hold workshops, to train personnel about the techniques of anger and violence control.

Abstract Background: Workplaces play a highly important role in controlling or spreading the prevalence of COVID-19. Therefore, the lack of proper implementation of hygienic protocols in theses environments might increase the risk of getting infected with the COVID-19 among the employees, following the increase of the COVID-19 in the family and community levels. This qualitative study was aimed to explain the challenges of coping with coronavirus crisis in the workplaces.Methods: The present qualitative study was conducted with a conventional content analysis approach. We used the purposeful sampling with maximum diversity in terms of working processes. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews. Interviews were performed to the point of information saturation. MAXQDA software version 10 was used for data management.Results: Through the content analysis of the interviews with the participants, we identified 2 main classes and 9 sub-classes. The main classes included problems and limitations related to the intra-organizational factors (job nature, budget allocation problems, individual factors, disorganization, manpower and equipment, and Lack of commitment and insufficient support of managers) and extra-organizational factors (lack of accessibility to valid information, black market, and inter-sectorial coordination problems). Conclusion: The study findings indicated that organizations and industries face numerous internal and external challenges in coping with the COVID-19 pandemic. Paying attention to the mentioned limitations and attempting to eliminate them; especially, by the governmental organizations, employers, and managers could help in effective confronting the COVID-19 pandemic.

Background: Different factors affect the success of standard operational procedures (SOPs). This study was conducted to explore the viewpoints of employees of Tehran Oil Refining Company about factors affecting the usability of SOPs. Methods: This qualitative study was a conventional content analysis research conducted on the oil refining company employers 2020, using  the semi-structured interviews. The data were analyzed by content analysis method using MAXQDA software. Results: The results showed that the employees had a positive perception toward the standard operating procedures and most of them used these procedures to improve work performance and reduce accidents. Also, from the viewpoint of the employees, organizational factors (desirable organizational culture, continuous supervision and evaluation and assurance of accurate implementation of instructions, and continuous personnel training), individual factors (positive perception of the personnel about the organization goals, rules obedience of the personnel, positive experiences of personnel from the implementation of instructions in the past), and environmental factors (environmental dynamics and their related SOP dynamics, desirable but formal relationships of managers and supervisors with personnel as well as optimal and standard work schedule) had a positive effect on the applicability of these procedures. Conclusion: The findings of this study showed that the employees, consider standard operating procedures of organizational, individual, and environmental factors effective in using standard operating instructions. Therefore, to increase the applicability of these procedures, the employees should consider their opinions.

Objective: Nurses’ organizational commitment is one of the most important factors that facilitates their professional evolution and influences the method of care provision, quality of care, and patients’ satisfaction. The aim of this study was identified the factors that affect nurses’ perceived organizational commitment. Material and Methods: This qualitative study, conducted on 16 clinical nurses employed in Social Security Hospital of Khorramabad, Iran, during five months from May to September 2015, used deep semi-structured interviews. Purposive sampling method was used for the selection of nurses and the data were analyzed using conventional qualitative content analysis. Lincoln & Guba’s criteria were used to secure data accuracy and stability. Results: Sixteen subcategories, five categories, and three themes were distilled during content analysis process. The abstracted themes included “organizational factors”, “occupational challenges”, and “contributory management”. Conclusion: Our findings showed that numerous factors present in nurses’ profession and work environment may influence the rate of nurses’ interest and commitment in the hospital and the related organization. Hence, nurse managers can foster the promotion of nurses’ organizational commitment through creating the required suitable conditions. Bangladesh Journal of Medical Science Vol.18(2) 2019 p.303-311

The concept of nursing knowledge and development of its body has become more important along with growth in phenomenon of professionalism of nursing. Nursing as a profession should have a deep look at the creation of new knowledge to provide services to clients. The exploration of knowledge creation space in clinical setting may be is the first important step. The objectives of this study was to explore the nurses’ experiences of knowledge creation space in clinical setting. A qualitative method with conventional content analysis approach was selected. Seventeen semi-structured interviews were conducted with staff nurses, head nurses, and supervisors working in tow teaching hospitals located in Tehran, Iran. The conventional content analysis approach was used for data analysis. Four main themes emerged from experiences of participants in this study included "scientific discussion", "sharing of clinical experiences." "Enrichment of conference and clinical unit rounds “and "Establishing interpersonal relations". It seems based on the experiences of the nurses who have participated in this study that the knowledge creation space in nursing to be an interactive space that is created following to formation of a scientific discussion, enrichment of clinical rounds and conferences and sharing clinical experiences among the nurses. Thus, the nursing managers should prepare the conditions in which the nurses to be encouraged for holding further scientific discussions upon clinical conferences and rounds, nursing reports, delivery and receiving the patients in addition to establishing appropriate interpersonal relationships and at the same time to show more tendency to share their clinical experiences with each other.

Background: One of the ways through which the quality of the hospital services can be improved is the accreditation, and most of the countries have launched their own accreditation system as a strategy to improve services. The aim of this research was to investigate the way of implementing the accreditation programs at Shahid Motahhari educational center in Marvdasht city. Methods: The current study was qualitative with conventional content analysis which was conducted by using the semi-structured interviews with eight officials and employees of Marvdasht Shahid Motahhari Medical Education Center in 2017. Purposeful sampling was done in this study and the next stage; the snowball sampling method was used to select the desired samples. Data were gathered to reach the data saturation point, and conventional content analysis was done to analyze the research data. Results: Two main themes and nineteen sub-themes were obtained through the nine categories. Self-confidence in the team, sense of superiority and achievement, all units’ coordination, accurate and scientific coherent supervision and management, and considering the book of standards as a guiding factor are among the strengths of this research.Poor management of programs, lack of proper context while running the program, lack of proper training, lack of financial and human resources, lack of commitment and interest in implementing the program among different groups were main identified barriers of the program. Conclusion: The effective factors on the implementation of the accreditation standards in the healthcarecenters should be identified. Besides, planning effective education, continued monitoring and assessing, creating suitable contexts of financial and human resources,consolidating the strengths and using the available potentials can be effective factors in line with the implemetation of accreditation standards.   Keywords: Accreditation, Hospital, Qualitative study, Evaluation

Abstract Background: due to the increasing importance of addicted women and the need to pay particular attention to this vulnerable group, and more awareness of women-specific addiction prevention and rehab programs among authorities. Objectives: In this content analysis of qualitative study we explored experiences of the women’s experience of the ups and downs of drug rehab Methods: 30 participants (addicted women) were selected through purposive and theoretical sampling until data saturation. Data collection was conducted through semi structured interviews. Conventional content analysis was utilized to analyze the transcribed interviews. Results: Based on analysis of the obtained results, the experience of women from the ups and downs of leaving the drug abuse yielded two themes and nine sub-themes. The themes were “the need for emancipation” and “Sinking factors”. Conclusions: It is concluded that addiction rehab strategies can only lead the addicted women to a brighter life when, along with open-hearted assistance by the families, women-specific rehab centers are established to help them meet their specific needs. Background: Despite the recommendations to follow guidelines for the prevention of COVID-19, different communities do not completely adhere to these guidelines. The aim of this study was to explore the barriers and facilitators of the adherence of the people of Sanandaj to the COVID-19 prevention guidelines. Materials & Methods: The present study was a qualitative content analysis study conducted in 2020. A purposive sampling method among the residents of Sanandaj, Iran was applied and continued until data saturation was achieved. Twenty semi-structured interviews were conducted with the participants. A verbatim transcription of interviews was analyzed through qualitative conventional content analysis. Results: Participants included 12 men and 8 women. Data analysis yielded 8 categories and 26 sub-categories regarding the barriers and facilitators of the participants’ adherence to the COVID-19 prevention guidelines. The barriers included myths, being under pressure, and letting and facilitators included awareness, fear, commitment, unity against the disease, and warnings. Conclusion: According to the findings, it is necessary to correct people’s beliefs, support them, and continue to make them informed about the disease. Increasing awareness and commitment, strengthening the spirit of unity among people, and increasing the level of warnings can be effective in increasing adherence of people to the COVID-19 prevention guidelines.

BACKGROUND: Exploring experiences of individuals for barriers they confront relating to safety could help to design safety interventions with an emphasis on the most safety influencing factors. OBJECTIVE: This study strived to present an empirical exploration of individuals’ experiences across the petroleum industry at different levels of the organizational structure for factors that influence occupational accidents. METHOD: Based on accidents history, face-to-face semi-structured interviews were conducted with individuals who engaged in fatal activities, as well as authorities responsible for managing safety. The qualitative content analysis of 46 interview transcripts was conducted using MAXQDA software. RESULTS: A three-layer model comprising organizational, supervisory and operator level influencing factors with 16 categories were found influence factors of occupational safety. The results highlighted the role of organizational factors, including inappropriate contract management, inadequate procedures, and issues relating to competency management and the organizational climate. Moreover, defects relating to the monitoring and supervision system were identified as important causes of accidents. CONCLUSIONS: The findings demonstrated that the qualitative approach could reveal additional latent aspects of safety influencing factors, which require consideration for the appropriate management of occupational safety. This study can guide the planning of preventive strategies for occupational accidents in the petroleum industry.

Abstract Background Understanding the pregnant women’s perception of continuity of team midwifery care is necessary for introducing and implementing this model of midwife-led care in the Iranian maternity services. This qualitative study aims to explore women’s perception of continuity of team midwifery care in Iran. Methods This research is a qualitative study conducted in Iran to explore women’s perception of continuity of team midwifery care during pregnancy, birth and postpartum from October 2019 to August 2020. Fifteen semi-structured interviews were conducted with women individually in private midwifery clinic through a purposive sampling method. Interviews were digitally recorded and transcribed verbatim in Persian and analyzed using conventional content analysis. Results From the data analysis, two themes, four main categories, and nine subcategories emerged. The themes were “Maternal empowerment” and “Mother’s satisfaction during the transition from pregnancy to motherhood”. The first theme included two categories of improving self-efficacy during antenatal education classes and the effective midwife-mother interaction. The second theme composed of two categories of satisfaction with the process of pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum as well as satisfaction with motherhood. Conclusion Findings of this qualitative study highlight the effectiveness of continuity of team midwifery model of care for promoting empowerment and satisfaction in women during pregnancy, birth and postpartum. The results of this study could pave the way for developing, introducing and implementing the midwife-led continuity models of care in Iran.

Iran has experienced a significant decline in the fertility rate over the past decades. One of the principal reasons for this decline is decreased willingness to bear children, especially in the highly educated couples subset. For that reason, developing and implementing a successful population policy is essential to increase fertility in this subpopulation. The study aimed at explaining the unwillingness to bear children in this subgroup. The qualitative research was conducted using a content analysis approach based on the data acquired using in-depth and semi-structured interviews with couples with an educational level of master’s and above, and without children or having one child. In this study, in total, 40 couples (40 women and 40 men) were interviewed. Of the participants, 57.5% had one child. Four main themes were developed using conventional content analysis: rationality and awareness, gender equality and willingness to bear children, cultural and social renovation, and concern about the child’s future. The results indicated that different factors such as economic, social, and cultural reasons and less hope in the future affect unwillingness to bear children in highly educated couples. Taking into account, these factors are essential at the time of development and implementation of pro-natalist policies.
