The boundaries of the Ark‐La‐Tex area are arbitrarily defined and the exploration history of the area briefly reviewed. A Basal Upper Cretaceous structure map and two stratigraphic cross sections illustrate the regional tectonic movements contributing to the formation of the East Texas basin, the North Louisiana basin and the intervening Sabine Uplift. Exploration objectives and problems and the relation of magnetic and gravity anomalies and axes with regional geologic trends and structure are discussed. It is pointed out that the piercement dome type structure offers an almost untested field for further exploration. Illustrations include a vertical intensity magnetic map with contour interval of 100 gammas, a Bouguer gravity map with contour interval of 5 milligals and type seismograph records.

In 1951, the French Government granted an exclusive exploration permit to the Esso R.E.P. (a Standard Oil Company affiliate) over an area of 4,357,980 acres around Bordeaux in the northern part of the Aquitaine Basin, France. This area was investigated first by surface geology; then it was surveyed by the gravity meter. In checking the gravity anomalies by the reflection seismograph, a subsurface structure was found at Parentis in 1953, which was drilled in 1954, and was proved to be oil bearing. The Parentis oil field is the most important oil field, not only in France, but in all Europe outside the Iron Curtain. Gravity map, seismograph map, seismic profiles, telluric map and geological contour maps, and cross sections of the Parentis structure are presented.

Unravelling the burial-deformation history of sedimentary rocks is prerequisite information to understand the regional tectonic, sedimentary, thermal, and fluid-flow evolution of foreland basins. We use a combination of microstructural analysis, stylolites paleopiezometry, and paleofluid geochemistry to reconstruct the burial-deformation history of the Meso-Cenozoic carbonate sequence of the Cingoli Anticline (Northern Apennines, central Italy). Four major sets of mesostructures were linked to the regional deformation sequence: (i) pre-folding foreland flexure/forebulge; (ii) fold-scale layer-parallel shortening under a N045 σ1; (iii) syn-folding curvature of which the variable trend between the north and the south of the anticline is consistent with the arcuate shape of the anticline; (iv) the late stage of fold tightening. The maximum depth experienced by the strata prior to contraction, up to 1850 m, was quantified by sedimentary stylolite paleopiezometry and projected on the reconstructed burial curve to assess the timing of the contraction. As isotope geochemistry points towards fluid precipitation at thermal equilibrium, the carbonate clumped isotope thermometry (Δ47) considered for each fracture set yields the absolute timing of the development and exhumation of the Cingoli Anticline: layer-parallel shortening occurred from ~6.3 to 5.8 Ma, followed by fold growth that lasted from ~5.8 to 3.9 Ma.

Magnetic anomalies of North America are reduced to the pole using a generalized technique which takes into account the variations in the directions of the core field and the magnetization of the crust over North America. The reduced‐to‐the‐pole magnetic anomalies show good correlations with a number of regional tectonic features, such as the Mid‐Continental rift and the collision zones along plate boundaries, which are also apparent in the vertical gravity gradient map of North America. The magnetic anomalies do not, however, show consistent correlation with the vertical gravity gradients, suggesting that magnetic and gravity anomalies do not necessarily arise from common sources.

A gravity map compiled from observations made on the frozen surface of Great Slave Lake shows that the positive gravity anomaly associated with the Yellowknife greenstone belt extends offshore into the North Arm of the lake. On the western shore of Yellowknife Bay the axis of the anomaly coincides with mafic volcanic rocks of the Kam Formation. Offshore the axis continues southwards for about 10 km to the West Mirage Islands where it takes a dramatic turn to the southeast and continues for a further 60 km to the Outer Whaleback Rocks. Using the geology and rock density determinations on land for control, a three-dimensional geological model comprising a large number of prismatic blocks was derived from the gravity anomalies. In the model the simplifying assumption has been made that the greenstone belt is everywhere floored by granodiorite similar to the adjacent Western and South-east granodiorites. According to the model, mafic volcanic rocks of the Kam Formation are generally 1–3 km thick with a maximum thickness of 7 km at the mouth of Yellowknife Bay. Greywacke and mudstone of the Burwash Formation vary in thickness from 1 to 3 km. Locally these sedimentary rocks attain a thickness of 8 km but this is probably an overestimated value as they may very well be underlain by volcanic rocks of the Kam Formation. The presence of a third pluton of granodiorite flanking the belt to the southwest is also inferred from the gravity data. Previous seismic work indicated a greenstone basin with an average thickness of about 10 km. However, reexamination of the seismic records suggests that weak arrivals interpreted as originating from the base of the greenstone belt are more likely to be pulses associated with earlier arrivals.

The Narayanpet Kimberlite field, that lies southwest of Hyderabad, the capital city of Andhra Pradesh, India, hosts a number of kimberlite pipes. These pipes appear to be randomly positioned. However, based on regional geologic structures revealed by Bouguer gravity anomalies, especially in a regional gravity map, their locations form a definite pattern. In the Narayanpet-Maddur region, regional Bouguer gravity contours exhibit some features of geologic interest: (1) the eastward convex regional contours show an increase in convexity from the Maddur and Kotakonda area on the east to Narayanpet on the west, (2) convexity is maximum in the vicinity of Narayanpet, where a large number of Kimberlite pipes occur nearly parallel to the regional contour, and (3) between Narayanpet and the Maddur-Kotakonda region, kimberlite pipes occur at intersections of three eastward, convex concentric zones with four lineaments, one trending northeast-southwest and the other three nearly east-west. These linear trends are believed to be radial, extensional, deep-fracture zones, through which kimberlite magma erupted about 1100 Ma. Modeling the residual gravity anomaly over one of the four profiles shows fairly good agreement between observed and computed fields. Based on analysis of Bouguer gravity anomalies and modeling of the residual gravity field, likely locations for kimberlite pipes are the contact zones between granite plutons and the country rocks that coincide with the northeast-southwest–trending radial faults that pass through Narayanpet and Kotakonda to the south and through Kazipur to the north.

Ras a1 Khaimah is the most northerly of the seven states comprising the United Arab Emirates and its Ruler, H. H. Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammad al-Qasimi, is keenly interested in the history of the state and its people. Survey carried out there jointly with Dr D. B. Doe in 1968 had focused attention on the site of JuIfar which lies just north of the present town of Ras a1 Khaimah (de Cardi, 1971, 230-2). Julfar was in existence in Abbasid times and its importance as an entrep6t during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries-the Portuguese Period-is reflected by the quantity and variety of imported wares to be found among the ruins of the city. Most of the sites discovered during the survey dated from that period but a group of cairns near Ghalilah and some long gabled graves in the Shimal area to the north-east of the date-groves behind Ras a1 Khaimah (map, FIG. I) clearly represented a more distant past.

Genetic variety examination has demonstrated fundamental to the understanding of the epidemiological and developmental history of Papillomavirus (HPV), for the development of accurate diagnostic tests and for efficient vaccine design. The HPV nucleotide diversity has been investigated widely among high-risk HPV types. To make the nucleotide sequence of HPV and do the virus database in Thi-Qar province, and compare sequences of our isolates with previously described isolates from around the world and then draw its phylogenetic tree, this study done. A total of 6 breast formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) of the female patients were included in the study, divided as 4 FFPE malignant tumor and 2 FFPE of benign tumor. The PCR technique was implemented to detect the presence of HPV in breast tissue, and the real-time PCR used to determinant HPV genotypes, then determined a complete nucleotide sequence of HPV of L1 capsid gene, and draw its phylogenetic tree. The nucleotide sequencing finding detects a number of substitution mutation (SNPs) in (L1) gene, which have not been designated before, were identified once in this study population, and revealed that the HPV16 strains have the evolutionary relationship with the South African race, while, the HPV33 and HPV6 showing the evolutionary association with the North American and East Asian race, respectively.
