There have been many attempts to account theoretically for the effects of anxiety on cognitive performance. This article focuses on two theories based on insights from cognitive psychology. The more recent is the attentional control theory ( Eysenck, Derakshan, Santos, & Calvo, 2007 ), which developed from the earlier processing efficiency theory ( Eysenck & Calvo, 1992 ). Both theories assume there is a fundamental distinction between performance effectiveness (quality of performance) and processing efficiency (the relationship between performance effectiveness and use of processing resources), and that anxiety impairs processing efficiency more than performance effectiveness. Both theories also assume that anxiety impairs the efficiency of the central executive component of the working memory system. In addition, attentional control theory assumes that anxiety impairs the efficiency of two types of attentional control: (1) negative attentional control (involved in inhibiting attention to task-irrelevant stimuli); and (2) positive attentional control (involved in flexibly switching attention between and within tasks to maximize performance). Recent (including unpublished) research relevant to theoretical predictions from attentional control theory is discussed. In addition, future directions for theory and research in the area of anxiety and performance are presented.

This chapter aims to identify the Critical Success Factors (CSFs) and outcomes of Web-based Supply Chain Collaboration (SCC). A total of 230 questionnaires were initially distributed to sample respondents of seven manufacturing firms in Jordan that use Web systems to collaborate with supply chain members. The results showed that top management support, IT infrastructure, training and education, business processes reengineering, trust among partners, open information sharing, and performance measurement are critical factors for Web-based SCC implementation success. In addition, this study revealed that Web-based SCC implementation is positively related to supply chain relationship quality, performance effectiveness, and performance efficiency.

This paper is a pilot study that examines the perceptions of transformational leadership among cooperative movements’ boards. Past studies have shown that transformational leadership is a strong predictor of firm performance (effectiveness). This study aims to examine on the perceptions of transformational leadership style among Malaysian cooperatives board of directors. Among the major problems faced by Malaysian cooperatives are the lack of board of directors’ commitments, directors failed to perform their duties effectively and weak leadership from Board of Directors which affected the board effectiveness and performance.

The article provides studies concerning the selection for the usage of firefighting foam in the aspect of human, property, environmental safety and sustainable development. Foam concentrates are products of the chemical industry, which, due to the type of raw materials, technology, usage method and waste disposal involved, are an important element of the industrial and environmental safety. Considering the range of extinguishing concentrates available on the market, with their different scope and performance effectiveness, it is necessary to responsibly plan purchases of required extinguishing agents. For testing all types of firefighting foam agent: synthetic, aqueous film forming, protein, fluoroprotein and fluoroprotein film forming concentrates were used. The standard test method ISO 7203-1:2011 for low-expansion foams used for the control, extinction and inhibition of reignition of fires of water-immiscible liquids was applied. The use of an appropriately selected and properly concentrated firefighting foam to extinguish a fire allows decreasing the duration of the fire and its consequences for the environment. The amount of used extinguishing agents will be substantially smaller. In the article the impact of considered use of firefighting foams on their effectiveness and potential dangers resulting from an inappropriate choice was shown.

In the conditions of the growing intensity of the UAV usage one of the most important problems is the improvement of their technical and performance effectiveness. It can be achieved applying the advanced methods of optimal designing. Apart from constructing an appropriate calculation model of the UAV, such an approach requires separating a group of decisive parameters, determining the limits and choosing the criterion of optimization. The precision and the range of use of the constructed calculation model must be adequate to a particular task allowing the optimal choice of characteristics of an aerial vehicle. Selection of the design parameters requires answering the question which technical parameters (geometrical, constructional etc.) of the UAV influence the performance characteristics of the aircraft positively. Analyzing the gradients of the performance characteristics change depending on the change in the design parameters, it is possible to determine the level of precision when determining the values and formulating the condition of finishing the optimization calculations. The aim of this work was to analyze the influence of selected design parameters on the performance characteristics of a mini UAV.
