Effect of electrolyte on the current-carrying process in electrochemical machining

Role of electrolyte [NaCl] in current-carrying processes in electrochemical machining of iron work piece has been analysed in light of Onsagar equation of strong electrolyte. Over-voltage-calculated with respect to equilibrium gap and penetration rate, shows that only a narrow range of equilibrium gap and penetration rate are admissible. It has been found that the maximum specific conductance of NaCl solution is 0.0387 ohm-1 cm-1 at 1.5 M NaCl concentration. It appears that NaCl contribute only a fraction of current, on the other hand H+ and OH-produced by electrolysis of water play an important role in the current-carrying process.

Abstract We investigate the effects of field temperature T(f) on the entanglement harvesting between two uniformly accelerated detectors. For their parallel motion, the thermal nature of fields does not produce any entanglement, and therefore, the outcome is the same as the non-thermal situation. On the contrary, T(f) affects entanglement harvesting when the detectors are in anti-parallel motion, i.e., when detectors A and B are in the right and left Rindler wedges, respectively. While for T(f) = 0 entanglement harvesting is possible for all values of A’s acceleration aA, in the presence of temperature, it is possible only within a narrow range of aA. In (1 + 1) dimensions, the range starts from specific values and extends to infinity, and as we increase T(f), the minimum required value of aA for entanglement harvesting increases. Moreover, above a critical value aA = ac harvesting increases as we increase T(f), which is just opposite to the accelerations below it. There are several critical values in (1 + 3) dimensions when they are in different accelerations. Contrary to the single range in (1 + 1) dimensions, here harvesting is possible within several discrete ranges of aA. Interestingly, for equal accelerations, one has a single critical point, with nature quite similar to (1 + 1) dimensional results. We also discuss the dependence of mutual information among these detectors on aA and T(f).

Intent and mitigating circumstances play a central role in moral and legal assessments in large-scale industrialized societies. Although these features of moral assessment are widely assumed to be universal, to date, they have only been studied in a narrow range of societies. We show that there is substantial cross-cultural variation among eight traditional small-scale societies (ranging from hunter-gatherer to pastoralist to horticulturalist) and two Western societies (one urban, one rural) in the extent to which intent and mitigating circumstances influence moral judgments. Although participants in all societies took such factors into account to some degree, they did so to very different extents, varying in both the types of considerations taken into account and the types of violations to which such considerations were applied. The particular patterns of assessment characteristic of large-scale industrialized societies may thus reflect relatively recently culturally evolved norms rather than inherent features of human moral judgment.

The ability of single and mixed bacterial culture to utilize Dora-refineries petroleum wastes was compared. Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Serratia ficaria mixed culture consumed the wastes better than the single bacterial cultures. The highest log. number of viable cells in mixed culture was 6.842 , while in single bacterial cultures it was 6.683 and 5.631, respectively. after 3 days in API medium containing the refinery wastes. The effect of some environmental conditions on the degradation of petroleum wastes was studied included aeration , NaCl concentration , pH and temperature. The growth of bacteria in the agitated culture was higher than stagnant culture the log. of cell no. was 6.021 in the first culture. The highest log. of cell no. stagnant culture was 5.771. Pseudomonas aeruginosa AA22 and Serratia ficaria AA39 were able to grow in medium containing 5 , 7 % NaCl , they favorite pH 7. The mixed culture of the two bacteria grew well of 45 oC.

Standardization and genotype independence of methods used to quantify hepatitis C virus (HCV) RNA in clinical specimens are necessary for accurate assessment of the role of HCV quantitation as a prognostic marker for HCV infection and monitoring of the response to antiviral treatment. Commercially available methods used to measure HCV loads include PCR-based (Roche Monitor) and hybridization-based (Quantiplex bDNA-2) methods. Recently, a new version of the Roche Monitor assay (version 2.0) has become available; it has been modified to achieve more equal quantitation of different HCV genotypes. Consistent with previous reports, Roche Monitor version 1.0 substantially underestimated concentrations of RNA transcripts of types 2b, 3a, 4a, 5a, and 6a and virus loads in individuals infected with genotypes 2 to 6 relative to reference tests. However, version 2.0 achieved equivalent quantitation of each genotype over a narrow quantitative range (103 to 5 × 105 copies of RNA/ml) but significantly underestimated RNA concentrations above this range. The assay showed an equivalent inability to quantify high levels of HCV RNA in plasma samples, and this was responsible for the falsely narrow range of virus loads detected in HCV-infected individuals. In contrast, the Chiron bDNA-2 assay could only measure RNA concentrations in the upper quantitative range (2 × 105 to 5 × 107 copies of RNA/ml) but showed equivalent sensitivity for genotypes 1 to 5; however, concentrations of type 6a RNA transcripts and virus loads in clinical specimens from individuals infected with type 6a were underestimated by a factor of 2 to 4. Differences were observed between PCR- and hybridization-based assays in their relative quantitation of HCV RNA transcripts and HCV genomic RNA, which may cause problems with the use of transcripts for interassay calibration.

Rainbow trout, fitted with arterial catheters, were exercised to exhaustion by manual chasing and then injected with either saline (controls), the β-agonist isoproterenol or the β-antagonist propranolol. Blood acid-base status, branchial unidirectional and net fluxes of Na+ and Cl−, and net fluxes of ammonia and acidic equivalents (JHnet) were monitored over the subsequent 4 h of recovery. These same parameters were also monitored in normoxic, resting fish following isoproterenol injection and in exercised fish following acute post-exercise elevation of external NaCl concentration. In addition to confirming an important role for β-adrenoreceptors in the regulation of branchial gas exchange and red cell oxygenation and acid-base status, we find a significant β-adrenergic involvement in the flux of lactic acid from muscle and in JHnet across the gills. Both isoproterenol infusion (into nonexercised fish) and exhaustive exercise were found to cause net acid excretion. The post-exercise JHnet was further augmented by elevating [NaCl] but was not affected, in this instance, either by β-stimulation or blockade, indicating that JHnet was not entirely regulated by a β-adrenergic mechanism. On the basis of a detailed analysis of unidirectional Na+ and Cl− fluxes, we conclude that the increase in JHnet following exercise arose mainly from increased Na+/H+(NH4+) exchange and that the upper limit on JHnet was set by the supply of external counterions and by the increase in branchial ionic permeability that invariably accompanies exhaustive exercise.

Although zinc is a well-known inhibitor of apoptosis, it may contribute to oxidative stress-induced necrosis. We noted that N, N, N′, N′- tetrakis(2-pyridylmethyl)ethylenediamine (TPEN; >10 μM), a zinc chelator, quenched fluorescence of the zinc-specific fluorophore Zinquin and resulted in an increase in spontaneous apoptosis in cultured sheep pulmonary artery endothelial cells (SPAECs). Addition of exogenous zinc (in the presence of pyrithione, a zinc ionophore) to the medium of SPAECs caused an increase in Zinquin fluorescence and was associated with a concentration-dependent increase in necrotic cell death. Exposure of SPAECs to TPEN (10 μM) resulted in enhanced apoptosis after lipopolysaccharide or complete inhibition of t-butyl hydroperoxide (tBH)-induced necrosis. We further investigated the role of two zinc-dependent enzymes, poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) and protein kinase (PK) C, in tBH toxicity. tBH toxicity was only affected by the PARP inhibitors 4-amino-1,8-naphthalimide or 3-aminobenzamide over a narrow range, whereas the PKC inhibitors bisindolylmaleimide and staurosporine significantly reduced tBH toxicity. tBH caused translocation of PKC to the plasma membrane of SPAECs that was partially inhibited by TPEN. Thus pulmonary endothelial cell zinc inhibits spontaneous and lipopolysaccharide-dependent apoptosis but contributes to tBH-induced necrosis, in part, via a PKC-dependent pathway.
