Paper 24. Plain Bearings for Automotive Drivelines

This paper investigates the common factors which may account for the preference for plain bearings in parts of the driveline. Theoretical and practical performances are compared and discrepancies are detailed and rationalized where possible. The paper continues to show the need for more experimental data from which computed results might be modified to allow for aspects of the environment for which no precise mathematical model yet exists.

Studies have shown that using nonferrous metallurgy waste in the ceramic mixture for the making of roof tiles improves the final product quality; one can use the clayey portion of the zircon-ilmenite ore gravity tailings as the clay, pyrite cinders as leaners and sintering intensifier, and wollastonite as an agent to reduce shrinkage and prevent deformation-related buckling. The common method of linear regression was used to study the dependency of the basic physico-mechanical properties of tiles on how much clay from the zircon-ilmenite ore gravity tailings, pyrite cinders, and wollastonite is used in manufacture. The resultant mathematical model takes into account the combined effects these components have on the physico-mechanical properties of tiles; it matches well the experimental data.

The paper considers some articulatory features of allophones of the vowel /i/ in the Altai-Kizhi dialect (spoken in the locality Ust-Kan, Altai) of the Altai language visualized by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The Altai-Kizhi is the central basic dialect of the Altai literary language. In Altai, each rural locality represents a unique dialect, whose relevance of studying was emphasized by V. V. Radlov. Speech sounds of the /i/-type in the dialects of the Altai language are realized mainly as front variants with different degrees of openness. In the written Altai speech, the symbol “и” is used to denote narrow front non-labialized vowel; some variants of the Altai vowel /i/ are central-back differing in this from the Russian vowel /i/. Experimental data on the territorial dialects of the Altai-Kizhi dialect, obtained from its 6 native speakers (d1-d6) taking into account variable inherent palate height, shows both the common articulation bases of native speakers (clearly-expressed frontness) and their differences (variable openness).

The influence of ferric ions on photoinitiated reaction of dioxygen with two carbon organic acids, aldehydes and alcohols related to natural waters was demonstrated. Photocatalytic effect of ferric ions, i.e. photochemical reduction of Fe(III) as the catalyst generating step, has been found to be the common principal of these reactions. The overall quantum yields of the reactions are in the range from 0.3 to 1.2. A mathematical model designed for the mechanism of cyclic generation of catalyst in the singlet substrate oxidation by O2 was applied to the system glyoxalic acid + Fe(III); a fair agreement between the simulated and experimental kinetic curves was obtained. The experimental rate constant is 4.4 .10-4 s -1.

Abstract We analyze N-soliton solutions and explore the Hirota N-soliton conditions for scalar (1 + 1)-dimensional equations, within the Hirota bilinear formulation. An algorithm to verify the Hirota conditions is proposed by factoring out common factors out of the Hirota function in N wave vectors and comparing degrees of the involved polynomials containing the common factors. Applications to a class of generalized KdV equations and a class of generalized higher-order KdV equations are made, together with all proofs of the existence of N-soliton solutions to all equations in two classes.

The existing spatial panel structural vector auto-regressive model can effectively capture the time and spatial dynamic dependence of endogenous variables. However, the hypothesis that the common factors have the same effect for all spatial units is unreasonable. Therefore, incorporating time effects, spatial effects, and time-individual effects, this paper develops a more general spatial panel structural vector autoregressive model with interactive effects (ISpSVAR) that can reflect the different effects of common factors on different spatial units. Additionally, based on whether or not the common factors can be observed, this paper proposes procedures to estimate ISpSVAR separately and studies the finite sample properties of estimators by Monte Carlo simulation. The simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed ISpSVAR model and its estimation procedures.

In this paper, we demonstrate how to reduce the noise level of expanded air from pneumatic tools. Instead of a muffler, we propose the expanded collecting system, where the air expands through the pneumatic tube and expansion collector. We have elaborated a mathematical model which illustrates the dynamics of the air flow, as well as the acoustic pressure at the end of the tube. The computational results were compared with experimental data to check the air dynamics and sound pressure. Moreover, the study presents the methodology of noise measurement generated in a pneumatic screwdriver in a quiet back room and on a window-fitting stand in a production hall. In addition, we have performed noise measurements for the pneumatic screwdriver and the pneumatic screwdriver on an industrial scale. These measurements prove the noise reduction of the pneumatic tools when the expanded collecting system is used. When the expanded collecting system was applied to the screwdriver, the measured Sound Pressure Level (SPL) decreased from 87 to 80 dB(A).

AbstractNatural frequencies and vibration modes of axial compressor blades are investigated. A refined mathematical model based on the usage of an eight-nodal curvilinear isoparametric finite element was applied. The verification of the model is carried out by finding the frequencies and vibration modes of a smooth cylindrical shell and comparing them with experimental data. A high-precision experimental setup based on an advanced method of time-dependent electronic interferometry was developed for this aim. Thus, the objective of the study is to verify the adequacy of the refined mathematical model by means of the advanced time-dependent electronic interferometry experimental method. The divergence of the results of frequency measurements between numerical calculations and experimental data does not exceed 5 % that indicates the adequacy and high reliability of the developed mathematical model. The developed mathematical model and experimental setup can be used later in the study of blades with more complex geometric and strength characteristics or in cases when the real boundary conditions or mechanical characteristics of material are uncertain.
