Substances found in Dacus oleae (Gmelin) (Diptera: Tephritidae) male or female flies which have been reported as pheromones, i.e. elicit some form of biological activity in laboratory or field bioassays, were tested with the electroantennogram technique (EAG). Substances of non-insect origin were also tested as possible pheromone candidates. All substances of insect or non-insect origin elicited an EAG response to both sexes of lab-cultured or wild insects but 1,7 dioxaspiro [5,5] undecane, the major pheromone component, has a lower response threshold value than all other compounds. At the maximum stimulus concentration the response to nonanal reaches a value higher than that elicited by all other compounds. EAG responses to various compounds, after receptor adaptation to the major pheromone compound and nonanal, showed that these two compounds are detected by different sets of receptors. Other comments on the sensitivity and specificity of antennal receptors are also presented.

Water-insoluble β - ( 1 - 3 ) – D - glucan isolated from the sclerotium of Poria cocos hardly exhibits biological activity. Therefore, it is advantageous to produce a value-added product from Poria cocos. We extracted the β - ( 1 - 3 ) – D - glucan from the sclerotium of Poria cocos and synthesized a carboxymethylated derivative, carboxymethyl-pachyman (CMP). The influences on the degrees of substitution ( DS ) of CMP, for example, volume ratio of ethanol to water, [NaOH]/[MCA] ratio, reaction temperature and reaction time have been examined, respectively. The most favorable conditions for pachyman carboxymethylation are obtained with a [NaOH]/[MCA] ratio of 1.5, at 45°C for 60 minutes with a reaction medium consisting of a ethanol/water 80:20 (v/v) mixture.

Determination of significant bleeding in the anamnesis is quite difficult, since mild mucocutaneous bleeding can occur both in patients with hereditary bleeding disorders and in healthy people. As a result, there is a growing interest among researchers and clinicians in accurate and objective quantification of hemorrhage symptoms. Objective of the study: to evaluate the effectiveness of the Pediatric bleeding questionnaire as a tool for identifying a group of children requiring further laboratory examination. Materials and methods of research: the study was a retrospective, uncontrolled, comparative, nonrandomized, single-center study. Based on the analysis of the database of the Consultive department of the Rogachev National Medical Research Center of Pediatric Hematology, Oncology and Immunology from January 2017 to December 2019, out of the total number of visits to doctors, patients under 18 years old who complained of increased bleeding were selected. The manifestations of hemorrhagic syndrome were evaluated using the pediatric bleeding scale – PBQ (Pediatric Bleeding Questionnaire), followed by a series of laboratory examinations to verify the diagnosis in all children. The sensitivity and specificity of this questionnaire was assessed at various threshold values using the ROC AUC curve, and a comparison of the scores on the scale in patients with different nosologies was made. Results: the study included 346 people, 174 were diagnosed, 172 had no data for coagulopathy/thrombocytopathy found – the patients were considered healthy. The discriminatory ability of the scale under study, studied using the ROC-AUC, was 0,815 (95% CI 0,772–0,858) – satisfactory. With a threshold value of pathological bleeding of 2 points, the sensitivity of the method was 98%, specificity – 12%. The best ratio of sensitivity and specificity (69% and 79%, respectively) was achieved when the threshold value was increased to 4 points. Conclusion: this questionnaire is a convenient addition, with the help of which it is easy to collect a history of bleeding, to assess the severity of bleeding, but it cannot be used as a screening method due to the large number of falsepositive results.

A methodology was developed for converting the activity concentration of radionuclides (Bq kg-1) into absorbed dose rate (Gy y-1), aiming an approach to environmental radioprotection based on the concept of standard dose limit. The model considers only the internal absorbed dose rate. This methodology was applied to the cubera snapper fish (Lutjanus cyanopterus, Cuvier, 1828) caught off the coast of Ceará. The natural radionuclides considered were uranium-238, radium-226, lead-210, thorium-232 and radium-228. The absorbed dose rates were calculated for individual radionuclides and the type of emitted radiation. The average dose rate due to these radionuclides was 5.36 µGy y-1, a value six orders of magnitude smaller than the threshold value of absorbed dose rate used in this study (3.65 10³ mGy y-1), and similar to that found in the literature for benthic fish. Ra-226 and U-238 contributed 67% and 22% of the absorbed dose rate, followed by Th-232 with 10%. Ra-228 and Pb-210, in turn, accounted for less than 1% of the absorbed dose rate. This distribution is somewhat different from that reported in the literature, where the Ra-226 accounts for 86% of the absorbed dose rate.

The function of KUA in the activities surrounding the religion of Islam, including providing service and guidance in the area of present services in terms of marriage and reconcilement for Muslims, provide services and guidance in the field of development of Sakina, family consultation conflict or household problems, and so on. Integration between the computer and artificial intelligence into the post-wedding consulting services is one approach in overcoming the limitations of the expert (religious instructor). This research aims to identify conflict in marriage by applying Naive Bayes algorithm at the stage of determining the groups of test data (retrieve), then entered the stage of the search process of the highest similarity value by using the Nearest Neighbor algorithm (reuse). The data source and the test data used are divided into two groups, namely marriage, and history data consultation, While the group conflicts are identified will be divided into five classes, namely an employment factor, the factor of age, educational factors, factors the number of weddings, and social status.Testing is performed by the use of 12 data, consisting of 11 data cases and 1 test data. At the stage of determination of group conflict acquired test data included in group one i.e. F001 (factor of the job), so at the stage of looking for value similarities used only the base case of the class F001 i.e. KK001, KK003, and KK008. The KK001 similarity has a value of 0476, KK003 of 0882, and KK008 of 0142. The case with most high similarity value will be stored as a base case. If the value similarity obtained less than the threshold value that is 0.8, then the solution of the case will be revised by experts. The results of the calculation accuracy, using 35 new test data that gets the value of 82.86%.

Sensitivity and specificity of 201Thallium-SPECT in rest-exercise studies were evaluated in 129 patients in comparison to coronary morphology. In addition, the results of 70 patients, examined before and after dilatation of coronary stenoses by PTCA were obtained. In this group, quantification of SPECT images was tested. Sensitivity in detection of CAD was 93%, specificity 84%. False negatives were most frequently found in the posterior wall. After PTCA 73% of the segments improved. With quantification, an increase of vitality by 11.6% and a decrease of the redistribution factor by a value of 8 was documented. 201Thallium-SPECT of the myocardium was found to be very useful to both evaluate CAD and follow-up interventional procedures. A quantification of slice-images is useful to objectively reveal therapeutic success.

A slight improvement in the chromatography of insulin on Amberlite IRC-50 resin in 7 M urea −0.13 M sodium phosphate buffer, pH 6.05, at 3 °C revealed the presence of at least four components. The major component was found to have a potency greater than that of any other purified insulin hitherto reported and substantiated. The biological activity of the minor components varied from a value close to that of the starting insulin down to very low or negligible values, indicating a loss of biological activity with increasing chemical degradation. The potency studies were quantitative.Starch-gel electrophoresis showed that the main component was not completely homogeneous, traces of other components being present.A highly fluorescent, colored material was separated from among the minor components and may be of interest in relation to allergy produced by some insulins. The separation reported here is discussed in relation to other fractionation procedures.

This study was undertaken to develop a composite measure that combines the discriminant values of individual laboratory markers routinely used for excessive alcohol use (EAU) for an improved screening performance. The training sample consisted of 272 individuals with known history of EAU and 210 non-alcoholic individuals. The validation sample included 100 EAU and 75 controls. We used the estimated regression coefficients and the observed marker values to calculate the individual's composite screening score; this score was converted to a probability measure for excessive drinking in the given individual. A threshold value for the screening score based on an examination of the estimated sensitivity and specificity associated with different threshold values was proposed. Using regression coefficients estimated from the training sample, a composite score based on the levels of aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, per cent carbohydrate-deficient transferrin and mean corpuscular volume was calculated. The areas under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) value of the selected model was 0.87, indicating a strong discriminating power and the AUC was better than that of each individual test. The score >0.23 corresponded to a sensitivity of 90% and a specificity of nearly 60%. The AUC value remained at a respectable level of 0.83 with the sensitivity and specificity at 91% and 49%, respectively, in the validation sample. We developed a novel composite score by using a combination of commonly used biomakers. However, the development of the mechanism-based biomarkers of EAU is needed to improve the screening and diagnosis of EAU in clinical practice.
