Despite the seminal role of emotion perception in social and personal relationships, there is limited understanding of how adult attachment organization affects the decoding of facial emotion expressions. Previousresearch has focused on how insecure attachment-related strategies for emotion regulation influence early stages of emotion information processing. However, recent studies highlight the importance of socialprocesses and motivational factors in the perception of positive and negative emotion (see e.g., Vrtička, Sander, & Vuilleumier, 2012). Based on a critical review of the relevant literature, the present articlepresents findings from a recent series of studies that reveal the effects senders' social moti ves (relational context, social goals) have on emotion decoding accuracy in adults with insecure attachment. The findings from these studies are discussed in the context of theories of motivated social cognition and the social perception of emotion.

The role of the social context in facial identity recognition and expression recall was investigated by manipulating the sender’s emotional expression and the perceiver’s experienced emotion during encoding. A mixed-design with one manipulated between-subjects factor (perceiver’s experienced emotion) and two within-subjects factors (change in experienced emotion and sender’s emotional expression) was used. Senders’ positive and negative expressions were implicitly encoded while perceivers experienced their baseline emotion and then either a positive or a negative emotion. Facial identity recognition was then tested using senders’ neutral expressions. Memory for senders previously seen expressing positive or negative emotion was facilitated if the perceiver initially encoded the expression while experiencing a positive or a negative emotion, respectively. Furthermore, perceivers were confident of their decisions. This research provides a more detailed understanding of the social context by exploring how the sender–perceiver interaction affects the memory for the sender.

At the core of the knowledge inquiry about behavioural differences is the nature versus nurture debate which has been central to the development of various theories of human personality. The metaphor of a pendulum, swinging back and forth between nature and nurture, has been used to depict the opinion of scholars and practitioners in the social sciences and psychology in this debate. Nature / Nurture debate seeks to proffer answers to the following questions: why do people differ significantly in temperament, approach to challenges and level of intelligence even when they are siblings sharing from the same pool of genes? The debate also seeks to understand why people with different genetic trait behave alike within a group. How does our physical environment affect human behaviour and what role does communication play in the development of human personality? In the context of street children in Nigeria, should we attribute human personality to nature or nurture? These are issues this paper seeks to deconstruct. Methodologically, the paper examines critical theories of human personality and utilises a mix of review of relevant literature, comments and observations to discuss the role of communication in the formation of human personality. It concludes that though nature contributes towards human behaviour and personality, communication, which is the tool that drives socialisation, is central to the development of personality among the street children of Calabar. Thus, if communication can influence personality negatively, then the street children of Calabar have a chance of being rehabilitated through a different kind of communication aimed at behaviour modification.

Az utóbbi évtizedben a környezettudatos gazdálkodás szerepének felértékelődése új tevékenységi területet nyitott meg a bankok előtt, amit nemzetközi szóhasználattal élve green banking-nek neveznek. A fenntartható fejlődést támogató projektek banki finanszírozása számos lehetőséget nyit a pénzügyi intézmények számára – hírnév, új ügyfélbázis, kockázatcsökkentés, jövedelmezőség növelése –, amennyiben a bankok a fenntarthatóság elveit megfelelően integrálják működési stratégiájukba. A cikksorozat második részében a szerzők a bankok fenntartható működését támogató külső és belső motiváló tényezőit veszik vizsgálat alá, amelyet már nemzetközi elvek és megállapodások is szabályoznak és támogatnak. Kiemelt fontosságot tulajdonítanak a környezettudatos gazdálkodás banki stratégiába történő integrálásának, melynek alapjait teremthetik meg a cikkben vizsgált nemzetközi irányelvek. ________ In the last decade, a lot of publications came to light, dealing with the social and environmental responsibility of financial institutions. Banks are expected to improve their competitive advantage by demonstrating economic development, while promoting environment care and social responsibility. This sustainable finance means to manage environmental and social risks in corporate lending and project financing. Green financial institutions have developed a wide range of innovations that can support sustainable development. This article highlights a few external and internal factor that support this aim, and which are regulated by international principles. However the authors’ survey shows that in the relevant literature there are a lot of ways to define sustainability and its achievement. They suggest that all of them can be interpreted associated with green banking operation. The goal of this paper is to identify the role of financial institutions in achieving sustainable development, and stress its strategic importance. The authors also attempt to show, why and how can this sector become the promoter of sustainability.

In this chapter, the authors will report evidence for the potential of MMORPGs for social studies education by providing a detailed review of relevant literature from the fields of game studies, educational technology, and the social networking universe. This evidence will include game scholars’ efforts to develop classroom applications of MMORPGs in the social sciences and related disciplines, and also provide examples of ‘citizenship education’ already occurring with MMORPGs. The authors will also provide an overview of perceived costs and benefits associated with classroom MMORPG use, including logistical hurdles that need to be overcome. They will also share a list of recommendations to the field for classroom use of MMORPGs, as well as implications for policy changes and future study.

Social learning theory is one of the leading theories in the field of criminology. This chapter provides an overview of the role of choice and human agency within the theoretical framework of social learning and their integrative importance for understanding delinquency and crime. Emphasis is placed on research stemming from Herrnstein’s matching law, choice allocation, and statistical models of social learning as applied to social networks. The chapter provides a unifying discussion of choice-based theories of behavior, elaborates on existing statistical models used to test these choice-based and social learning theories, and suggests topics for an innovative research agenda grounded in the relevant literature. In addition, the chapter articulates a research agenda that will help researchers further promote empirical and theoretical advancements in the social learning tradition of criminology.

The use of socially innovative projects for solving social problems by actively involving civil society is a promising and much sought-after area of social development. However, the priority of social goals over economic outcomes in the implementation of such projects significantly limits the speed and effectiveness of their implementation. In this connection, the use of a mathematical tool for the financing and resource provision of social innovations creates new opportunities in terms of the assessment and development of such projects. In order to develop and substantiate tools for the mathematical support of financing social innovations, the role of the collaborative economy in the development of social innovations initiated from below is substantiated. The proposed mathematical toolkit includes a linear algorithm describing the logic of the developed approach, a methodology for assessing socially-innovative projects based on an adapted McKinsey matrix, a methodology for assessing the institutional environment, as well as a mapping of project correspondences in an adapted McKinsey matrix along with collaborative economic tools recommended for resource provision. The described set of collaborative economy tools is recommended for use in the development and implementation of social innovations. The mathematically-described algorithm proposed by the authors is aimed at developing resource provision strategies for social projects by evaluating their competitiveness and attractiveness in terms of the social function they perform while taking the characteristics of the particular institutional environment into consideration. The result of applying this algorithm comprises a set of collaborative economy tools for use in the development and implementation of socially-innovative projects. The application of this algorithm is shown on the example of an evaluation of ten projects implemented in the Ural region and applying for assistance from support funds. The theoretical significance of the proposed results lies in the development of methodological tools for assessing socially-innovative projects. The practical significance lies in the possibility of applying the obtained results in the development of an online calculator used to assist in forming a social project resource provision strategy.

Purpose This paper aims to draw on the key tenets of self-determination theory (SDT) to explore the possibility of deploying talent management (TM) as an inherently motivational process within the hospitality industry and examine the role of managers in leveraging it. Design/methodology/approach The study is rooted in social constructionism and uses qualitative methods and techniques to provide rich insights into employee perceptions and experiences of TM and related managerial attitudes and behaviours. Findings Although the current TM process is skewed towards performance outcomes, compelling evidence indicates variation in attempts to address employees’ motivational needs mediated by highly influential managerial attitudes and behaviours and importantly, suggests ample scope for embedding TM as an inherently motivational process. Research limitations/implications The findings are based on a relatively small sample but can be extrapolated with moderation to the wider research context and other similar organisational settings. Practical implications The paper develops an operational framework which contains clear guidelines that can be effectively translated into practice keeping in view its potential benefits. Social implications In line with SDT, the study foregrounds the social and relational context conducive to TM as a motivational process. Originality/value The paper is the first of its kind to conceptualise TM as an inherently motivational process via the systematic application of SDT and offers early empirical insights into the phenomenon, which can serve as a solid platform for further research.

The aim of this study is to determine the social media addiction levels of university students and examine whether their social comparison orientations and ruminative responses significantly predict social media addiction. The study group consists of 261 university students. “Social Media Addiction Scale”, “Iowa-Netherlands Social Comparison Orientation Measure” and “Ruminative Response Scale, Short Form” were applied to the participants. Frequency, percentage and multiple regression analysis were used to analyse the obtained data. As a result of the study, it was found out that university students were less addicted on social media. As a result of the regression analysis, it was determined that obsessive thinking, deep thinking and social comparison had significant effects in predicting social media addiction. It was concluded that obsessive thinking and social comparison predicted positively, whereas deep thinking alone was not a significant predictor. The obtained findings were discussed in the context of the relevant literature and suggestions were made for further research.

Abstract This study aimed to investigate the role of social withdrawal in emotion recognition of patients with schizophrenia (SZ) or probable Alzheimer’s disease (AD). A sample of 156 participants was recruited: SZ patients (n = 53), AD patients (n = 46), and two age-matched control groups (SZc, n = 29; ADc, n = 28). All participants provided self-report measures of loneliness and social functioning, and completed a facial emotion detection task. As a result, neuropsychiatric patients (both groups) showed poorer performance in detecting both positive and negative emotions compared with their healthy counterparts (p < .01). Social withdrawal was associated with higher accuracy in negative emotion detection, across all groups. Additionally, neuropsychiatric patients with higher social withdrawal showed lower positive emotion misclassification. Our findings help detail the similarities and differences in social function and facial emotion recognition in two disorders rarely studied in parallel, AD and SZ. Transdiagnostic patterns in these results suggest that social withdrawal is associated with heightened sensitivity to negative emotion expressions, potentially reflecting hypervigilance to social threat. Across the neuropsychiatric groups specifically, this hypervigilance associated with social withdrawal extended to positive emotion expressions, an emotional-cognitive bias that may impact social functioning in people with severe mental illness.
